  2. My first event of the year just ended, 2 days (Friday and Saturday). Large event with 160 vendors in a beautiful park. Weather was great, crowds were huge. I didn't make as much as I expected. Inflation is definitely tightening some wallets understandably. I sold a total of 62 pieces at an average price of $32.50 over the two days. Overall very happy. All vendors said the same thing "Sales were good, they just weren't fabulous." Next event in 2 weeks, one of my best 1 day events each year. See how it goes.

Just finished this one, I saved all the dropouts and put all of it back together. I'm planning on this being a display at my booth this summer. 1/4 Inch thick material, FD Polar #1 blades, no finish yet. no idea what the wood is.

  6. In very detailed patterns like my Leopard some of the areas where are very, very small and difficult to see. I use a Dremel plunge router with the springs removed and added a small magnifying glass, available from model hobby shops the guys use them to paint models etc. It comes with a stand which I put into storage added a small bracket and now I can see perfectly. WAARNING please be careful keep your fingers under the one plunger i.e. I’m tight handed so I use my left hand for this. Then once it is placed on the pattern a slowly loosen the plunger setting knob, so the weight of the Dremel slides down under its own weight, it works like dream but you have tighten the router after drilling a couple of holes so that the holes are always vertical, once you got the hang of it is great. Hope you find this tip helpful.

  8. Hi Don here, I see there is about 32 scroller staying in the Johannesburg, Gauteng area, would it be nice if we could through, WhatsApp, FB or Messenger, and share ideas help each other, discuss blades etc. We are so far away from all the good scrolling stuff that we have to keep thinking out the box. Please Nobody’s obligated if you think it’s a stupid, cool toss it in the bin, it’s just a thought.

  9. Is it OK to submit some things I cut out last year? My DW has just started making a gosh-awful noise, so I'm dead in the water until I open her up and see what I see. Anyway, here's 3 SG patterns I cut out when I got started out last year. Oh, and one of the eggs lettering broke up bigtime when my sister-in-law dropped it on her floor (heavy sigh).

  10. I have made many Alex projects. I attach mine just like any pattern I attach to the wood and that is by spraying with 3M Supper 77 on the back of the pattern.

    Happy Easter

Stack cut the white layer, 1/8” Baltic birch. The back layer is 1/2” maple that I glued and planed. After cutting, I gave them to my wife for painting. She is keeping the blue rabbit. The pink rabbit is going to one of our grand nieces. Sue Mey pattern.

For those of us who have killed more than one Dewalt, and of course they always die at the worst possible time, DW = "dirty word".

  16. Hi, @CSull and @heppnerguy The pattern that I used for a project called The First Founding Fathers was by Jeff Zaffino. Now that I took time to try to find images on the internet, the pattern that CSull used is probably NOT the Zaffino pattern. The highlights in the Native American's cheeks are not there in the Zaffino pattern. Now I want to find out who designed the one CSull cut. I think also that this pattern designed by Jeff Zaffino is the one that really started all the legal problems for Jeff Zaffino because he used someones zigsaw puzzle original Founding Fathers puzzle - Search (bing.com) as the source for his scrollsaw pattern without permission. Legal problems then really began to pile up as other designers complained that their copyrights were also violated. Attached is the cutting I did at 11" x 14".

  18. Scroll Saw pattern supply catalogs sell a full sheet with pull off backing that is designed for applying to wood projects. You print directly to the sheet, then peel off the backing and apply to your wood blank. The sheets are supposed to be easily removable. Wooden Teddy bear and Cherry Tree sell them.

  27. We can’t even get a decent selection of scroll saw blades, our supplier order 10000 blades pa, yip pa and they are not sizes I require to do fine detailed work. He does not know his market and we pay $6.85 per doz for $23.95 I can get 6 doz. Everything here is a total rip off, the scroll saw importers are continually out of stock of critical parts i.e. then tension rod and nuts, I’ve my spare to a friend of mine who works with steel every and he is going to make me a couple of spare. You just can rely on the importers. I’m going to import my own blades from Bearwood and they can send it to me express air Mail parcel post, will take few weeks to arrive, but I will get them.

  30. Hi Barbara, Scroll saws is a huge Problem in S A, we can get the Marlet (which I have) or the Ryobi all these types of scroll saws come out the same factory parts are all interchangeable, if you look at my post of the Leopard that was cut on my Marlet which I have modified, it’s vibration less, has a huge 500x500mm tabletop so your work piece is always on the table. I know where to get most stuff I do all my maintenance on my saw myself. Soyeh we can chat some how and see how we can help each other.

G'day Don, In another scroll saw group that I belonged to, it had chat rooms and you could set a time and have interested or invited people on line at the same time to share ideas or just chat. I would of sworn that we had one here, but I can't find it. Maybe It's just as case of C.R.A.F.T.

  40. I ran across an Judy Gale Roberts intarsia pattern that I purchased some time ago and never got around to making it so I decided I would give it a try. I decided as I was cutting it, to put it into a frame with a painted backer board.I showed it to my neighbor as i was part way through the project and he suggested that I place a bead into the center of the eye instead of a dowel. I liked that idea and did that. I liked the results of it right away. Also I was wishing I had a Wonder Wheel so I could emphasize the hair in the lions mane. I decided to give my Dremel tool a try and see what I might be able to do it using it. It worked pretty well and I am happy with the results from it too. So overall I like the finished project fairly well. Still struggle with gluing and finishing my intarsia projects but a little happier than I normally am. Dick heppnerguy

Nice work, we don’t care when you did it. However, I have to say usually when most folks use “DW” as an abbreviation, it usually refers to “darling wife” or maybe. “D$#@ wife” if upset with her. So, I first read that sentence as my darling wife so she was making aweful noise and wasn’t sure how you planned to open her up. Finally the brain worked and figured out you meant your saw, I’m assuming It’s a Dewalt.

    Letter Stencils

I purchased a bunch of different templates on Amazon. But for lettering I use a word program and now I use a Cricut machine. I am current cutting some text for a sign that I am making. You may also want to check out this site. It is free, https://online.rapidresizer.com/make-name-patterns.php

  49. I cut this out of red cedar and poplar. I used the cedar because the knot was the perfect size for the stone! Because of the grain direction, the crosses are fragile.
