    Tissue Box

My wife wanted me to make another tissue box. I found a nice fret pattern for the sides. Made from 1/4" oak and fits the standard size Kleenex Tissue Box 8.2 x 8.4 inch / 20.8 x 21.3 CM. It has a 1/4" gap on the bottom for easier lifting. Finish is shellac/ gloss Lacquer.

  4. Here are the two Hourglass's I made. As I noted in the original post, I was considring darking the wood a little with Mahagony stain. And, as you can see in the photo, I did just that. Not sure which one we like the best. My Lady is leaning toward the original lighter one while I kind of like the darker a little better. Staining the wood, did add some time to the build to allow for drying time and it was a PITA to get into all the fretwork because I only had Mahogany in the Gel Stain. If I had the regular type it would have probably been a lot easier to dip the fretwork pieces.

    My Christmas gift

Hello everybody, I'm very happy. I finally received my Chrismast gift of my Chérie but she never said it's for 2021. After many adventures, my scroll saw is finally arrived. I ordered it at October 2021, I'm very patient isn't? I tried it yesterday, that is incredible! Very quiet, no vibration. Compared to my first, it's another world. That is Rolls! (I never had a Rolls but I suppose) Now, I'll can to saw without stopping, night and day. Lol ! I think you can understand my English

You might try contacting Sue Mey, she's listed in the pattern shops, as she is based in SA. The member map shows 29 members in the Johannesburg area. If you could get together and put in a mass order.....

  10. An Alex Fox Basket C-12 completed yesterday. I used 1/4" solid Hard Maple. Cut on the Pegas scroll saw using Pegas #1R MGT blades. Actually, only one blade. The finish is two coats spray Lacquer Clear Gloss with sanding between coats. Comments welcome.

    Tissue Box

Checked it out. I dislike TWTB because they are afraid someone is going to steal their patterns from the picture. Their photos of the subject is so small you can't see the pattern. And they don't do digital downloads. Price plus shipping becomes annoyingly high. I checked out Steve Good's site and he has two patterns for the small square tissue box, both have a Hummingbird pattern included. I don'g care for his joinery, but I can do my own. I will need to make at least six for all the boxes we have arround the house. I see a lot of stack cutting to be done..

  13. I usually have no clue when you guys post these, But it was indeed the EYES and nose that I remembered. While the original was before my “childhood” (1964-1966) so I was a baby/toddler then, we did watch reruns of it after school as I recall. (Clearly showing I grew up with only a few tv channels and definitely no cable or streaming. ) I was surprised to learn that it only aired for two years as I would have sworn we saw a lot more episodes.

Bernd, those corner joints look so perfect, nice woodworking my friend. The finish looks impeccable, did you use a filler of some kind to flatten out the oak?

    Tissue Box

Very well done! Very nice appropriate fretwork pattern. Is the end panel a different color by design or is it just the photo? We have the square tissues boxes all over our house. This is Pollen country and sneezing and snifling is a regular thing. I just might make a couple for the square tissue boxes to match our furniture, but I know I will have to have a pattern with a Hummingbird in it for my Lady.

  27. Nice work @FrankEV Well done! I prefer the lighter shade but, as we all know, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. As long as you are happy with them, my opinion is irrelevant. God Bless! Spirithorse

  28. Loskoppie, What saw do you have and what are your problems, I can help with most things because in SA “ ‘n Boer mask ‘n plan” for out English speaking friends it means “A frame can make a plan” because where we are we think out of the box.

  29. AS I progressed, I started out with pictures found on Steve Good's website. They were plenty challenging and I learned the needed techniques needed to branch out into other projects. I stumbled across Sheila Landry's website: http://sheilalandrydesigns.com/free-pattern/ and started word art plaques done in cherry. These have been gifted to people on various occasions and seemingly appreciated. Then, thanks to Travis' great work in teaching the ins and outs of Inkscape, I started designing my own word art plaques. I enjoy the process of making the board stock out of cherry and the process of cutting the pattern and the finishing of the final product.

    South African Scrollers

@Don Bedggood Don, Have a look at The Wooden Teddy Bear https://woodenteddybear.com/collections/all-blades I get all of my blades from the (Flying Dutchman and Olson). They take the time to package items in the most economical way for postage and their prices are excellent, with quite large further discounts if ordered by the gross. They are also super quick. The gross amount can be made up by mixing and matching brands, sizes and types of blades. Good Luck

    South African Scrollers

Thank you. I know I am but I only have them after doing a lot of buying/selling of used saws. I realize how lucky I am to be where that is possible. I hope the best for you and all your fellow scrollers in So. Africa. It's a shame when a government makes life so difficult when it's not necessary.

    Table angles

I just cut a keyhole shape into the edge of a piece of timber the same thickness that I'm going to use and adjust a few times until it wedges where I want it to.

  35. Making this did my childish heart good. Referring to 1 Corinthians 13, C. S. Lewis said, "When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up." Do you recognize this old television character from my childhood yet? I don’t know if the show aired outside of the US or not so you outlanders may be at a disadvantage.

What you guys also don't realize is postage is a problem to theft is bad. Most country's don't even want to deal with South Africa. I was told by a hardware store that the German scroll saw was broken by the people testing it when it was brought in at the government department passing it coming in. No money back.
