Thanks to @FrankEV for giving me a nudge along, I finished this tonight as a gift for the school bursar, (Karen) as she is leaving tomorrow. I like cutting things fine This is the first cube type tissue box that I made. There where lots of paper and printouts trying to get the design and dimension looking correct. It is made from 12mm pine with Jarrah trim. Has Royal Blue felt fixed to 3mm ply as a lining and backing to the cut outs.| Finished with 3 coats 30% gloss lacquer Mary and the Southern Cross is the school logo Don't know what I did to the pics this time, they came out small ?9 points

Even though I haven't post anything I have been working but I have also been teaching a 19yo girl to scroll and she is loving it. Any way here are a few things I have made. They are all Sue Mey patterns. The first Christmas Bells are made from 2.5mm Bamboo, the second ones are made from 4mm pine and so are the gnomes. They are all for a Christmas in July driveway market at my daughters. Marg9 points

My latest scroll saw pictures; made for The Farmer's House to sell at their Vintage Market in Weston, MO. Patrick Mahomes (15) and Travis Kelce (87) of the Kansas City Chiefs. The Farmer's House is a charitable organization which serves the community by providing programs that cultivate job readiness and self-sufficiency skills; community inclusion; and successful employment. Participants include individuals with autism spectrum disorders, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and other developmental and intellectual disabilities.7 points -
Soda Can Covers
Be_O_Be and 6 others reacted to don in brooklin on for a topic
At our club a couple of wood turners started to turn Soda Can Covers. They are to protect getting in bugs and wasps when outdoors or woodchips in the workshop. They started out fairly plain but they got fancier and fancier. One was even in the shape of a bowler hat and one as a poop emoji. Works for beer cans too. Then the scroller has to get involved and take it to the next level that only a scroller can to with personalized covers. Made from Maple with a died birch veneer as a backer and baked FIMO clay for the initials.7 points -
What iv been working on wood wise
meflick and 5 others reacted to Dragonkort for a topic
ok heres some pictures of what iv beening doing lately.as you can see I still have a long way to go before I can even consider my self a beginner wood carver lol but pratice makes perfect. the first picture is of the compound cut knob I got from here and i did a little carving on it and gave him a cig in his mouth...Im going to try to enlarge the pattern some so i can see if i can make a grove cut on the bottom of him to put on the rim of thin flower pots. Thhis second one is spikes birthday present. this was just a flat design I decided to try a little carving on. The next picture has a cowboy leaning against post. as you can see I really messed up the hat but better luck next time lol and then theres some waist peices from compound cuts that i decided to make into plant pokes and im not sure what im going to do with the flat fish lol add some pretty eyes maybe and theres a small knob waist peace i did a little carving on not sure what im going to do with that either....make a magnet or use in a layered project of some kind. Then theres the pumpkin I tried to carve from one of my carving mags....and the picture from the mag of what its SUPPOSE to look like....as you can see I have a long way to go but im also learning how to use my electric carving tools...and as you can see i really messed up the painting!! I didnt have the mag picture when i painted it it might have looked better IF i had the picture fromm the mag to look at while i was painting it....oh well lol then theres a little duck i carved from a chunky basicaly just rounding it some and definineg the tail...and then the dalphen on the wave chunky i did a little carvinging on and again mostly just rounding it some and trying to make it not look so much like a chunky and a flat moose....and then the compund cut knob i got from here again.I cut out 2 of the mag pumpkins for carving and im hoping i will do a better job on the second one then i did on the first one....and i'll cut out more of the knobs and see if i can make them look better. and i'll countue to try to add detail to some of my other chunkys as a way of praticing....unfrountly i dont have detailed pictures of the chunkys to use as a guide for drawing carving lines and doing the carvings..6 points -
Well, just for kicks, I decided to do an inventory of all the dog breeds that I take to events in puzzle form. I display 47 and have another 63 less popular breeds in a bin to show when asked. I enjoy saying "Yep, I have 100 breeds with me today." And now I can start saying 110 since I now know exactly how many I do have. With the exception of maybe 3 or 4, I have sold at least one of every one. It's worth it as I get asked at virtually every event for an unusual breed and 9 times out of 10, the person is ecstatic to see their breed and will buy it.4 points

I liked your pattern Frank so I took a try at it. Cut from 1/4 Maple with a 1/8BB backer using a #2 spiral blade. I made the frame from alder and stained it. I must say the painting was challenging-getting the colors in the right place on the backer was time consuming. I probably went about the hard way3 points

Join the club. My shop is 9 x 13 and loaded to the max. I've got wood stashed all over it. One of these days, the termite police are going to come for me. I get cutoffs from Cherokee Woods whenever I go out to their yard. So far, everything has found a spot in my shop out just outside in one of my cupboards. I throw nothing away. My wife hates it.2 points

I may give that a try, thanks! I have a hard time tossing any wood, no matter the size. I had to slip some short scraps in the legs as a couple of pieces were a tad too short. I have scraps stroed all over my shop. When I need one it's like a treasure hunt to find the right one (lol) Chris2 points

Beautiful work. Rest assured your in good company. We all made mistakes or had mishaps. Just grin and bear it and start again. After about 8 hours cutting I dropped my project and watched it go into a million little pieces. A dust pan can be your friend.2 points -

I agree with Dave Monk and Dgman. A very easy wood to work with. However, I have never stained it.2 points

Alder Wood
barb.j.enders and one other reacted to dgman for a topic
Alder is a hardwood but is very soft. Easy to cut with a scrollsaw. It looks a little like Cherry, but without the Cherry grain. Because it is relatively soft, it gets blotchy if stained so use a sealer if you plan to stain. I have used in the past and have always had good luck with it.2 points -

I use a lot of alder. It's soft and easy to scroll. I also use it for intarsia. Very easy to shape.2 points -
I built a box and put the shop vac in it and I have a dust deputy on a large sump container from menards, the craftsman planers have a wedge type shoot that points to the side.2 points

Not sure about cutting it but I have a Fender Strat made from Alder that is very heavy! Sounds great so I don't think I'll cut it up into scrolling projects.2 points -

Our first Clock sale - and a shout out to...
Iguanadon and one other reacted to new2woodwrk for a topic
We had our first clock sale 2 weeks ago (it took a few days to get the process down). A big thank you and shout out to @kmmcrafts for all the information relating to the drill bit size and clock insert as well as providing access to the insert! Also a shout out to every one who offered suggestions on mounting items. I went with a dowel for the clock tower and polyurethane glue for the dragon (this glue is now my go to for difficult glue ups!) Made from blond Poplar, measures 9 1/2" base x 6" height with a 2" clock tower insert with spray acrylic coating. I left enough room on the insert tower for engraving should the customer want in the future. Thanks as always in advance for reading2 points -
Happy to be back in the Village !! Life after Xmas went to 'Hell in a Handbasket' So I've not been able to / not felt like spending much time at my saw nor on my computer. However, things are on the 'up' and decided to cut one of my favourites for a friends birthday. An Alex Fox pattern (one of my favourites) changed to red/grey as I find it easier to cut than the black/white patterns.1 point

That I have to agree with Charlie, She was hard work as a youngster, but I wouldn't trade her for the world. I never expect to be rich cutting items, I enjoy it, so this gets rid of items, gives me some cash to purchase more timber and a machine every now and again, and of-course a few beers.1 point

No, not what I have in mind. I want a classroom setting with an instructor looking over my shoulder. I took one on Xcell years ago and it helped so much being in a class with others.1 point -
Today is/was "organize day". I gathered up what' I've cut out since I started a year and a half ago and laid it out on one of the guest beds. This is what I came up with, minus the Christmas decorations and some things I've cut out and given away. I plan to finish the pieces hope to sell them at a farmers market this summer. Now I have to figure out how to display them - my wife said I couldn't take the bed!1 point

DeWalt Planer Chip / Dust Collection?
John B reacted to Roberta Moreton for a topic
I am now thinking of trying to just let the planer blow the chips into a bucket and unhook the shop vac. Less noise!1 point -
Been working on this off an on. Red Oak an Walnut. Finished by dipping in 50/50 BLO. Front blade goes up and down also the blade swivels left an right. Hardest part was making the tracks. You can’t see in pictures but the tracks are guided by wheels. The tracks turn also. Used Pegas MG #5. Used bandsaw to cut groves around the engine cover. 15”x9”x9” pattern from Toys & Joys.1 point
