  1. Just sent this off to a good friend. She requested it for her daughter. I'd done one for her in the past and wanted another with 'birds' in the tree.

    silly

Most scrollers take their scrolling very serious.....perhaps we should lighten-up a bit and be silly sometime ...................... This is another example of ADDING COLOR TO SCROLLING.. The only painting was white on the edges.

    No Place Like Gnome

I made this guy for no one in particular, but I will probably give it to someone on a whim. I don’t paint many of my projects, but this one wouldn’t look very good unpainted. Anyway a birder friend saw it and said that studies have shown that birds shy away from houses with faces if they have eyes, so I whited out the eyes. You gotta take curb appeal under serious consideration when showing a house. Hopefully this will be Gnome Sweet Gnome for some finely feathered friends.

  7. I finished all four on Monday. The patterns are by Harvey Blyer. The wood is 3/4" Poplar. Cut on the Pegas Scroll Saw using Pegas #3R MGT blades and Pegas #1 Spiral Blades for veining. The finish is dipping in diluted Shellac. Comments welcome.

    I am back

Well I am Back. I have had some Physical Problems to have taken care, and some Personal ones came with them, but I feel they are behind me now, My Wife is doing Great, she is walking with the aid of a cane. There are times I feel like I need one. lol. I just got back in my shop, so I hope to be turning out something soon. Keep me in your Prayers. It has been awhile since I saw my saw, my hands and eyes aren't what they use to be.

  10. In my previous post “Cube Tissue Box Cover w/ Hummingbird design” I mentioned I did not do a good job on the corners. Well, I thought I would try again, but with a different panel pattern. The design for mitered joints should work. Everything seemed to be perfect. I did my miters on the table saw very carefully and they looked about as perfect as possible. Well assembly proved to be another story. I used blue tape to form hinges to fold up the box and clamped with two Sedy strap Clamps. The Top was set into the box and clamped with squeeze Clamps. Well as you can see the joints did not closeup and gaps resulted along each joint. Not sure what went wrong, but I’m thinking I needed temporary internal bracing (square blocks) to prevent the clamping pressure from bowing the side panels. The Seahorse panel design looks nice and was an easy stack cut with Pegas #2/0 spiral blades. I played with the coloration of the seahorse to get a multi-colored effect, like those in photos of Seahorses I found on-line. Well, as I originally mentioned, we have many tissue boxes around our home, so I guess I’m going to have to come up with another panel pattern and try again. I will post the Pattern in the New Pattern Announcements for your use and enjoyment. You may have better luck producing tight joints then I’m having.

    Anybody Cut Keys?

Cleaning through some old catch all bins and came across this Key that my aunt got me some years ago. Looks to be scroll sawn? I know I’ve seen coin cutting etc but never thought about keys.

  12. These are my latest cuts, a Big Thank You to Botas Helder for sending me the patterns it’s truly appreciated. I’m going to paint them ( with my daughters help, she does art) one set is for my son in laws 50th birthday later this month. I’m not sure about a backer yet, was thinking painting 1/8 MDF black and the glue Yoda to that, I have a good idea in my mind as to what the backer should look like when finished. I’m very happy with the cuts considering this is only my 6 & 7th cuts, the big Yoda was quite challenging for me but I’m more than happy with the results. Any advice on backed is most welcome.

    silly

absolutely nothing wrong with being silly. I love doing 'silly'things for the Grandkids, although my daughter is running out of shelf and wall space. Gary Larson and his Far Side books are my kind of silly. What I've always lacked is the skill to finish things in coloured paint, so I like your cow a lot.

  20. Jimmy Stewart as George Bailey in It's A Wonderful Life. I like this moment of the movie. George is describing the big suitcase he wants for all the exciting travels and adventures he plans to have in his life, what he believes it will take to have a good life. If you know the movie, of course his life doesn't turn out like he planed and it takes a crisis for him to realize his life is wonderful as it is. I need that reminder from time to time. If you'd be interested in the pattern let me know.

  21. At our club a couple of wood turners started to turn Soda Can Covers. They are to protect getting in bugs and wasps when outdoors or woodchips in the workshop. They started out fairly plain but they got fancier and fancier. One was even in the shape of a bowler hat and one as a poop emoji. Works for beer cans too. Then the scroller has to get involved and take it to the next level that only a scroller can to with personalized covers. Made from Maple with a died birch veneer as a backer and baked FIMO clay for the initials.

Try it...it is very easy and fun. People will think you painted the project...The paper art work will not show. I am trying to get a few color projects and the corresponding art work into the FREE section so you can try it. ( withTravis's help). I am computer challenged! If you have any question, let me know. The walls you can't see are pretty much taken up with shelves, cabinets and a big roll up door, so I'm running out of room fast. My goal is to get at least 100 portraits hung before I run out of room. I think I'm getting close to 80 so maybe I'll make it.

Nice set up Charlie. Got me buggered how you can have so much wall space to hang your cuttings on. I can't even find room to hang my hat

    Anybody Cut Keys?

Very interesting. On one of my used scroll saw purchases, I got a whole box full of blades with it and I just found a whole package of blades for metal cutting. Very tiny, very fine toothed blades. I'll have to give this a try some time.

  41. This is what I have purchased. It was on sale for $25.00. There is a flap in the back for ventilation. I have yet to hook something up for that. It reminded me of a play tent that my kids had. https://www.princessauto.com/en/42-x-36-x-39-in-pop-up-spray-paint-shelter/product/PA0008998569

  45. Most make puzzles or leash / key racks from these patterns.. I make them into clocks.. or ornaments. As of a little over a year ago I'm no longer a pet parent.. Miss my dogs and cats but really allergic to cats and dogs bother me some too, now that the kids are kinda grown and wanting to start doing some traveling etc. we have not took on the pet parent responsibility just yet.. SO, I just make them from wood and sell them.

  47. Funny you should mention that. I am going to make a set for my daughter and these fit a stemmed glass for white wine but my daughter drinks red. For a pop can the circle is 2 5/8 but the red wine glass 2 3/4 tapering out to 3 inches. I am going to cut the inside on an angle to see if it fits better. Keep you posted.

    I am new but old.....

Thanks Joe...I fit in spaces where topics are focused on complex political issues - like why is a #3 blade more popular than a #5 blade and the #12 blades feel such discrimination.....lots of turmoil in the Scroll saw corner of my shop.....
