So I finally finished these up last night. The cuttings have been done for a while now but I struggled with frame design / material / backer etc. Everything I tried I just didn't really care for. Last week @Old Joe posted in the "unframed projects" topic in the business section about how he doesn't use frames and showed his method, Thanks Joe for your contribution. I like this way better than being framed, at least for these two projects. I cut these from 5/32" Maple project panels from Home Depot, BTW Thanks @FrankEV for your topics mentioning these panels, I like them much better than the BBply that I normally would use. I bought a pack of these panels some time ago and these two projects are the first time I've tried them. Very stable quality ply without the bland grain of BBply. I think I'll buy some Walnut panels to cut and use a solid maple backer to see how that backwards from my normal looks. Used a Pegas MFG #3 blade to cut these. Cut at 11 x 14" so they could go into a standard sized frame in case I wasn't successful at frame making, LOL. The backer panel is a glue up of 5/8" Walnut lumber, was hoping for 3/4" but by the time I planed glue up down to rid of a blemish in the wood I was left with just shy of 5/8" The finish is semi gloss polyurethane from a spray can, can't remember the brand off hand but it had a good spray pattern but the can tilted much it would suck some air and spit.. so not too happy with how the finish came out.. not horrible but not great either. Probably should have used a satin finish but this is what I had on hand.. These aren't perfect but they are also just going to a friend for free because he loves his tractors and a thank you to him for his serving our country. Almost forgot to mention ( shame on me ), Thank you to @TDpainter for creating these patterns for me. Patterns are in the pattern request section if someone is wanting to give them a try.11 points

Hey everyone! In this scroll saw project video I make a beautiful Train Themed Desk Clock for my Train Room out of a beautiful piece of oak wood. The pattern is available on Scroll Saw Village, hope you all like the video! #ArtisanPirate1 point -
Hi all, I saw a technique I wanted to try. So I made a cowboy boot. Can any shape be a vase? But first, I resisted the idea of having the title being.. "She got the boot". Ok so this is a cowboy boot DRY vase. Like for utensiles. The local restauraunt is called Country Rose. Her menus have cowboy hats and boots. She has lot of cowboy stuff on walls. So I gave the owner, Sharon, the cowboy boot vase. I put roses on each side of the boot. I decided not to have the roses the same color. Not a great painting job. I probably had too much coffee.1 point

I love it. Those are beautifully cut and it warms the heart of this crusty old vet when folks take the time to honor the armed services. Bruce1 point

That's odd - I looked at SG's site and it is showing an old man in a rocking chair.1 point

How the wood was cut at the mill also makes a big difference on how the scroll saw will cut it. A piece of flat sawn red oak will cut better than a piece of rift or quarter sawn red oak. With rift or quarter sawn the blade will be much more likely to wander or follow the grain since the grain is in the same direction as the cut verses flat sawn that the grain is perpendicular to the blade.1 point

Basically,,, Yes !! - I did cover it several thin coats of 50/50 pva glue + water before I cut it, then put a few coats of clear poly on it , rubbed with brown paper and Bingo. A simple solution for what the girls wanted.1 point

A great idea Brenda. Nicely cut Sticky beaks would like to know how you did the lettering ? I made a large puzzle for a friend of mines wedding cut into the same amount of pieces as guests and each guest signed a piece. When the puzzle was put together the face of it had a nice photo on it.1 point

Jim, you don't know how close I've come to scrolling this little cutie. Reason being, my little buddy, Hershey, looks almost identical. He was a rescue and when we got him, he was completely hairless from fleas. Always wants to be held and loves his belly scratched. I think I'd get rid of the wife before I got rid of my little buddy!1 point -
Love it. Looked on Steve's site (and my trash folder) but was unable to locate the pattern. Maybe a link to help me find it? Thanks Brian0 points
