After two weeks of vacation in the New Orleans French Quarter I have finally got back into the shop and finished and framed these two Projects. I found this nice illustration of a Kingfisher that was an easy conversion. It is an worthly addition to my group of Bird Art pieces. Cut panel is 5/32”x9”x12” Solid Core Maple affixed to a 1/4”x11”x 14” BB Ply Backer. The Backer was hand painted with Artist Acrylic Paints. Cutting was completed with Pegas #1 Spiral Blades. Assembled panel was protected coats of Deft Clear Gloss Spray Lacquer and mounted in a 1 ¾” wide Poplar Frame Finished with Minwax Water Based Classic Black Wood Finish Stain and protected with Multiple coats of Minwax Polycrylic Finish. This Scroll Saw pattern is my layout of various free tropical Fish stencils I found on-line. The Cut Panel is a 5/32”x14”x 11” Solid Core Birch panel selected for the grain that had the feel of water. The ¼”x14x11” backer is BB Ply that was hand painted with Artist Acrylic Paints. Cutting was completed with Pegas #2/0 Spiral Blades. Assembled panel was protected coats of Deft Clear Gloss Spray Lacquer and mounted in a 1 ¾” wide Poplar Frame Finished with Minwax Water Based Royal Pine Wood Finish Stain and protected with Multiple coats of Minwax Polycrylic Finish. As always, comments and critiques welcome.8 points

When the entry holes show up in my inlay, this is what I do: Sand, off the problem on the edge of both the inlay and the background wood, before applying glue and assembling. After gluing in place, I then fill in that area and all that appears is a slightly wider gap at the edge of the inlay. I fill this slight gap with a mixture of white glue and sanding dust. (Any saw dust is way to coarse) I apply the mixture of glue and sanding dust by using a plastic credit card as a squeegee, let dry just ten minutes, and sand flush. I make the glue sanding dust mixture about the consistency of Mayonnaise. This process may be required more than once because the glue sometimes shrinks a bit. If yellow glue is used the filler becomes too dark in color. White glue, like the kids use in school, works best.3 points

ADDING COLOR TO SCROLLING
angela2 and one other reacted to john nelson for a topic
I hope I am doing this right......I am computer challenged. For the past few years I have been developing a method of adding details and color to scroll-saw projects. The method is not new as Fisher-Price Toy Company used this method to add detail and color to their toys in the 40"s and 50"s before plastic. I would like to find 5 or 6 scrollers (of any level) that would interested in trying this method and tell us your opinion. I would like to know, what you think, if you liked the process and the results or not, if you would do other projects using this method and if you had any suggestions or ideas how to improve it. If you are interested, I would be happy to send the first 5 or 6 scrollers free, full size patterns, required art work and instructions to complete one add color to scrolling project. Just choose one of the project below and send me your mailing address. You are not under any obligation what so ever. If you do try it, please let us all know what you think. Thank you. I am stumped for what is cool to make with this glue up. I was given some white oak slats that were used in vinyards wine vats for aging red wine. I trimmed the edges to 90 deg and made each slat parallel. Then glued them up. Final size 18"x20". I have not sanded them flat yet. Most are 5/16" thick some are 1/4" thick. If I do sand them, then the redness will be removed or washed out. It would be cool for some vinyard idea or a wine theme. I usually stay away from wall hanger art but I am open for all suggestions. I can get 2 or 3 pallets of these if I want to. It take some effort to trim and make these parallel. Me. Mark Eason2 points

I learned something from you a while back about painting the bridge on the wheels and I was lucky enough to have that teaching of yours, pop into my head as I was making this. Thanks for the wisdom you shared with me Dick heppnerguy2 points -

For a good friend
Scrolling Steve reacted to heppnerguy for a topic
I have a good friend that I met shortly after we moved to Southern Arizona. He has purchased several of my wood projects and he had his 82nd birthday this week. One time while in my shop, he saw a plaque I had made for myself and mentioned how much he liked it. so for his birthday, I made one for him too. He had it hanging on his wall the same day he received it. If you are old enough you may remember these greyhound scenicruisers. Dick heppnerguy1 point -
This is the second of Americana 12 by Jim Blume. This is pretty much the same as the first cut, Oak ply stained natural, black backer, except the truck was tinted with Minwax Expresso stain rather than watercolor paint. Again, the frame is actual framing material with gray wash and a little natural stain to darken it up just a touch.1 point

How about using the glued up panels as backboards for sayings with cutout letters or words of different fonts? If you have enough of them you are in a new business.1 point -
The yellow glue I do use (Not for inlay work) is "Titebond 2" and is water resistant. White glue is not. Both are stronger than the wood, true.1 point

How did you apply the red color? You might want to try the ADDING COLOR TO SCROLLING method???? Travis added instructions. I think you might like it??????1 point -
These are for lasers but many will work as scroll saw patterns too... Run across this page when they offered free giraffe cell phone stand on a laser group on FB that I'm on. Thought some of these would work as scrolling patterns too. https://k40lasercutter.com/product-category/free-laser-cut-files/1 point

It's funny, but the 1st time heard of "Yellow" glue was from Americans. All of the Australian PVA's are white. Because we are the 51st state there is now Titebond yellow glues available, but it is, in reality no better than the other PVAs' as they are stronger than the wood they are joining.1 point

How about this plan? You could leave the surface rough, sort the strips for thickness before you do a glue up. https://woodworkingformeremortals.com/folding-wine-table-for-picnics/1 point
