Sue Mey pattern
GusGustin and 6 others reacted to scrollerpete for a topic
My wife wanted a clock for the kitchen(wine motif) I sent and email to Sue Mey and asked her if she could make a pattern since she did not have one on her site, well a couple of days latter she sent me the pattern which I promptly purchased and this is the result. Since the thickness of the wood was 3/16” I stacked cut the maple and walnut together, 2 clocks at the same time. my wife chose the maple with the walnut background, the other one goes in the inventory.7 points -
First Cross
frankorona and 6 others reacted to Dak0ta52 for a topic
I've been asked to set up a booth at a community yard sale in my area this weekend and had to crank out a few projects to display/attempt to sell. This is my first cross. It is a Steve Good pattern cut using 1/4 maple ply for the front and hummingbirds. The back is 1/4 underlayment. The cross is stained with Minwax Natural, and the edges of the backer and hummingbirds are stained with Minwax Red Oak. The paint is artist acrylic paint. The piece was sprayed with four coats clear with light sanding with 320 grit between coats. My wife has already claimed this one if it doesn't sell.7 points -

Through rain & wind!!
frankorona and one other reacted to barb.j.enders for a topic
Did a "summer" market today. Debated going because of the weather. Decided to go because they were doing, and did, a lot of advertising. Shoulda stayed home. Glad I wore my down vest with rain jacket and had gloves. Would have prefered the winter coat. Temperature was 10 celcius with wind gusting to 60 kph and intermittentrain showers. The cinder blocks held the borrowed canopy. Couldn't do the setup as planned because of the wind. Sales wise, I made table cost plus $20. The bragging right is I survived the sh*t weather.2 points -

Last week I ordered a Pegas Band Saw from @Denny Knappen. As I expected, nothing but excellent customer service. I received it today. It's all set up and I am cutting with it. Each size blade you have to have matching guide bearings. The bottom one is kind of a pain in the butt to change. I put a #5 blade and bearing on it which is the smallest it will accommodate. I imagine I will just leave that one on. I've made a few test cuts and I am totally happy with it. I've been doing a lot of intarsia, that's why I bought it. It will cut any hardwood like butter. I tested it on Wenge and it amazed me how easy it cut. If you do a lot of intarsia I would strongly recommend one.1 point

Hubby is in the market for a wood planer. What would you suggest? Something that won't break the bank. IF he doesn't buy it by Christmas then I will get him one for Christmas. Thanks.1 point

Anyone using China Birch?
crupiea reacted to Greatgrandpawrichard for a topic
I recently was given a couple of 12 X 12 inch sheets of Flooring Underlayment to try. It cuts Great with very little fuzzies on the back. Glue sticks great to it, one side will take paint extremely well and one side will take stains perfectly. Plus it has a pretty cool pattern and color to it. I can forsee myself using it more from now on! Dick1 point -
Yes, truly sad that everything went to China. Time to bring manufacturing back to this country.1 point

I am stumped for what is cool to make with this glue up. I was given some white oak slats that were used in vinyards wine vats for aging red wine. I trimmed the edges to 90 deg and made each slat parallel. Then glued them up. Final size 18"x20". I have not sanded them flat yet. Most are 5/16" thick some are 1/4" thick. If I do sand them, then the redness will be removed or washed out. It would be cool for some vinyard idea or a wine theme. I usually stay away from wall hanger art but I am open for all suggestions. I can get 2 or 3 pallets of these if I want to. It take some effort to trim and make these parallel. Me. Mark Eason1 point

My wife and I are trying very hard not to buy anything from China. I'd be looking for some other choice. JMHO.1 point

A New beginning and a question for the experienced with Hegners
danny reacted to nrscroller for a topic
I have used a Hegner for many years and I suggest you get the quick clamp for the top blade holder from Advanced Machinery, it is well worth the money and will make your top blade clamping a lot easier. Bill1 point -
Check out YouTube videos by Advanced Machinery for the most accurate info on Hegners. They helped me a lot.1 point

Or, how about making serving trays out of them. I think a "rustic" tray would sell well. I'd plane them all to the same thickness, on the bottom of the slats though so that the wine stained wood would be on top.1 point
