    Sailing Ship

I've always wanted to scroll a sailing ship but never could find a pattern I liked. Searched the web and found a drawing and modified it to be scrolled. All the lines are double cut. The rigging and some of the sails and ship plank were a little complicated. The stem is also a peninsular and I was glad when I finally glued it down to the backer. The bridges were very small but luckily I didn't have any break throughs.

  5. Well here is my newest works. Miss Betty, Scooby's Favorite Snack and some Knives. The wood I used for the Knives are from some wooden blides that I was about to throw out. Glad now that I didn't. I have enough to make a lot of knives. At least 3in from top to bottom.

  7. I have a good friend that I met shortly after we moved to Southern Arizona. He has purchased several of my wood projects and he had his 82nd birthday this week. One time while in my shop, he saw a plaque I had made for myself and mentioned how much he liked it. so for his birthday, I made one for him too. He had it hanging on his wall the same day he received it. If you are old enough you may remember these greyhound scenicruisers. Dick heppnerguy

    Americana 12 (2 of 2)

This is the second of Americana 12 by Jim Blume. This is pretty much the same as the first cut, Oak ply stained natural, black backer, except the truck was tinted with Minwax Expresso stain rather than watercolor paint. Again, the frame is actual framing material with gray wash and a little natural stain to darken it up just a touch.

  9. Did a "summer" market today. Debated going because of the weather. Decided to go because they were doing, and did, a lot of advertising. Shoulda stayed home. Glad I wore my down vest with rain jacket and had gloves. Would have prefered the winter coat. Temperature was 10 celcius with wind gusting to 60 kph and intermittentrain showers. The cinder blocks held the borrowed canopy. Couldn't do the setup as planned because of the wind. Sales wise, I made table cost plus $20. The bragging right is I survived the sh*t weather.

    Sue Mey pattern

My wife wanted a clock for the kitchen(wine motif) I sent and email to Sue Mey and asked her if she could make a pattern since she did not have one on her site, well a couple of days latter she sent me the pattern which I promptly purchased and this is the result. Since the thickness of the wood was 3/16” I stacked cut the maple and walnut together, 2 clocks at the same time. my wife chose the maple with the walnut background, the other one goes in the inventory.

You sound just like me. Can't stand to pass up a deal. That's why I've got 3 saws and almost had a 4th Friday. You'll find space.

    Suggestions Please.

Put a Formica covered plate over the bed. Made one for mine. Works fine. Made mine an inch thick so I can still use the thickness scale less an inch. Saves measuring every time. Just sayin

    Scrollsaw Query

I googled both the Fasco company and the Strong Tool Design company and found some info on both companys. The Fasco company is still in business in Ozark, MO and makes electric motors of all sizes and shapes. The Strong Tool design I don't believe is any longer in business. This scroll saw was made around 1989 and from what info was available from a vintage tool site, very few were sold. The company was located in Michigan. This is all i could come up with and what value it would have would be how badly you would want it! Erv

    For a good friend

He actually told me again today how much he loves it. It makes me happy when I give something I made to someone and they seem so proud to call it theirs. I also know just because I like something does not mean another person will care much about it, because everyone has different tastes. Dick heppnerguy

Nice work. I love making those pocket knives (I call them letter openers at craft shows). They drew a lot of attention, of course.

    First Cross

I've been asked to set up a booth at a community yard sale in my area this weekend and had to crank out a few projects to display/attempt to sell. This is my first cross. It is a Steve Good pattern cut using 1/4 maple ply for the front and hummingbirds. The back is 1/4 underlayment. The cross is stained with Minwax Natural, and the edges of the backer and hummingbirds are stained with Minwax Red Oak. The paint is artist acrylic paint. The piece was sprayed with four coats clear with light sanding with 320 grit between coats. My wife has already claimed this one if it doesn't sell.

    First to see a Cross cut and Decorated like yours. First look reminded me of Frank as he normally shows color in his work. I Like It Very Much. :+}

  25. Got my latest piece finished. Waylon Jennings. They are coming slower because of building things for the house like this bathroom vanity. This was made from wood found in the implement shed. What a find, Black Walnut!

    Quick(ish) project

Got another multi-layer project going, and have been stuck on the detailed mandala portion of it for a while now (lots of tiny cuts, lots of repetition, and ....bleh....lots of family drama that limits the daily available sawdust time). So, since this was a long weekend and we obligated ourselves to stay home and save money, I managed to get in a lot of sawdust. Finished off the mandala, finished another layer (this one is 7 or 8 layers, IIRC), then decided I needed a quick project that could be finished relatively easily. I'm always in need of bookmarks, so another pair it is. While cutting, it occurred to me that my wife has some epoxy/resin left over from another project she did, so I'm going to take one of these and give the resin fill another try. If it works out, it'll mean I don't have to worry about delicate cuts getting crushed or smashed or broken while marking my place or while in my backpack. Stains are Minwax "Early American" and "Honey". Wood is some oval craft-stick type I found at Hobby Lobby, not 100% sure the brand or item number.

  31. Love the front side and how you accented the colours. Looks fantastic. Now you tell me about the material. LOL I just received from KPJ the sample pack plus 4 sheets of white oak and have no idea what I am going to do with them. This does give me ideas.
