    Sailing Ship

I've always wanted to scroll a sailing ship but never could find a pattern I liked. Searched the web and found a drawing and modified it to be scrolled. All the lines are double cut. The rigging and some of the sails and ship plank were a little complicated. The stem is also a peninsular and I was glad when I finally glued it down to the backer. The bridges were very small but luckily I didn't have any break throughs.

    Peacock for my wife

I ran across this pattern on a European scroll saw page and asked where I could buy the pattern. I was drawn into it at first sight. I never received an answer but posted that I was looking for it. Luckily someone responded and I was able to get the pattern. It was in a format that I have never seen and I was unable to use it. I have a good friend who was able to change it into a format that I could use. After I got it printed, I decided I was not skilled enough to make it. I was kidded a lot about when i was going to make the project. So I finally decided I would at least give it a try. This is the end results and fortunately for me, my wife really liked it and it is now hanging on our front room wall. Each feather has 50 holes and there are about 36 feathers in the project. That meany each feather was going to take in the neighborhood of an hour to cut. Well long story shortened, I finally got through the project. I was not happy with the painting on the body of the bird, but other than that, I am happy with the overall results. Dick heppnerguy

  8. This is the second of Americana 12 by Jim Blume. This is pretty much the same as the first cut, Oak ply stained natural, black backer, except the truck was tinted with Minwax Expresso stain rather than watercolor paint. Again, the frame is actual framing material with gray wash and a little natural stain to darken it up just a touch.

A photo showing the whole saw might help to see what it has and hasn't in the way of good features. Is the upper arm powered or does it have a spring lift for the blade? What size is the saw? Is it variable speed? What design are the blade chucks? The close-ups are good, but more, and a shot showing the whole saw side/front view would help too. Charley

    Cat Stevens

Cat Stevens, with a nod to a couple of his hits, Moon Shadow, and Peace Train. I didn't add the moon till the end so it's not on the pattern.

If you ever talk to Bushton, (Hawk mfg.) they had a bad experience with Fasco motors and controllers on Hawk saws. I looked at a used Hawk a while back and walked away because it had a Fasco motor and what they said. But for the right price, anything is a good buy.

You sound just like me. Can't stand to pass up a deal. That's why I've got 3 saws and almost had a 4th Friday. You'll find space.

  15. Did a "summer" market today. Debated going because of the weather. Decided to go because they were doing, and did, a lot of advertising. Shoulda stayed home. Glad I wore my down vest with rain jacket and had gloves. Would have prefered the winter coat. Temperature was 10 celcius with wind gusting to 60 kph and intermittentrain showers. The cinder blocks held the borrowed canopy. Couldn't do the setup as planned because of the wind. Sales wise, I made table cost plus $20. The bragging right is I survived the sh*t weather.

I picked the 3 best photos of the saw they had posted. You can see the bottom blade mount in the 3rd photo, the top is the same. The saw is about an hour from me and with gas prices like many others, I'm limiting my travel. Part of me wants to bid on it cuz I love old tools. But on the other hand I really don't have the space for a tool taking up space that I don't use. Such a quandary. Chris

    Sue Mey pattern

My wife wanted a clock for the kitchen(wine motif) I sent and email to Sue Mey and asked her if she could make a pattern since she did not have one on her site, well a couple of days latter she sent me the pattern which I promptly purchased and this is the result. Since the thickness of the wood was 3/16” I stacked cut the maple and walnut together, 2 clocks at the same time. my wife chose the maple with the walnut background, the other one goes in the inventory.

I've always wondered just how many Hawks came back with bad Fasco motors. 1, 2, 1000? How many are still out there just chugging away?

Excellent work, Bernd. At first, I thought that to be an easy cut but after looking at it closer, it's obvious it would be rather difficult with the small bridges and keeping all the parallel cuts together.

  46. Well here is my newest works. Miss Betty, Scooby's Favorite Snack and some Knives. The wood I used for the Knives are from some wooden blides that I was about to throw out. Glad now that I didn't. I have enough to make a lot of knives. At least 3in from top to bottom.

    For a good friend

He actually told me again today how much he loves it. It makes me happy when I give something I made to someone and they seem so proud to call it theirs. I also know just because I like something does not mean another person will care much about it, because everyone has different tastes. Dick heppnerguy

  48. Got my latest piece finished. Waylon Jennings. They are coming slower because of building things for the house like this bathroom vanity. This was made from wood found in the implement shed. What a find, Black Walnut!

  49. The color is actually the result of an accident... burning fuzzies with a torch and the wind blew the flame through the grill area of the truck. Tried light sanding but the char was too deep. Decided to try the darker stain. I'm happy with the results.
