Welcome Gnome
frankorona and 6 others reacted to don in brooklin on for a topic
Inspired by Steve Goods Welcome to my garden Gnome. I do not have much of a Garden and I wanted to add mushroom. I also made a little larger than Steve's to fit the piece of outdoor plywood. I got a bunch of cutoffs from a shed company. The pattern for this is located at https://www.scrollsawvillage.com/forums/topic/46473-inkscape-12/ I enlarged with Acrobat 110% to 10 1/2 x 13 1/2 high.7 points -

Guys & Gals I do not post as much as I once did, but want you all to know That I still support this site and all of you wonderful folks that make up this community....Having said that I want to post my last 3 Alex F. projects, all cut from 1/4 BB ply...I continue to support Alex every chance i get and encourage you all to do so if you can...Thanks for looking and any comments are always welcome, Steve.6 points -
There are others, but I like this so much that I bought every can I could find locally. You can make paste wax. It is wax dissolved in a solvent. Much like the beeswax and mineral oil that is so popular except that the oil is replaced with solvent.2 points

I sign mine. I use a permanent fine line marker along with the date. It then gets finish applied over the top. It is dated for the year it was created.2 points -
I always liked silhouettes. Nice work.2 points

This one took a couple of minutes. I like to miniaturize most of my portrait type patterns, but at 7 1/4” x 11” I probably took it a little too far on this cat. The entire project was cut with Pegas 2/0 spirals. 1/4” Baltic Birch, Danish Oil applied, mounted on a nominal 1” pine board stained black. Though my wife loves this one, I think it was more trouble than it was worth.1 point

RAven and Moon

This Image has appeared in many Pinterest searches. Rather simple conversion to a 12” x12” scroll saw pattern. The cut panel is 5/32 solid core ply Birch (if I remember correctly) that I painted Black with Krylon rattle can All-in-one Flat Black Paint and Primer. The backer is ¼” BB Ply that I beached for a few days to get a very bright light wood “Moon” color that was then hand painted in the Grey and White areas using Artist Acrylic paints. Cutting was done with Pegas #1 Spirals and #3 MGT R. The assembled panel was protected with multiple coats of Deft Clear Gloss Lacquer. Frame is my typical 1 ¾” wide Poplar stained with Minwax Brazilian Rosewood Stain and protected with multiple coats of Minwax Wipe-on Clear Satin Poly. Comments and critiques always welcome.1 point -
Yes that is what I am looking at 7 1/4 blade saw, maybe Ridgid cordless, weighs 23 lbs, only have to do baseboard and quarter round, and maybe some other trim work. I don’t need it for home, I have a Sawstop 3 hp with all the bells and stuf, thx for all your help everyone, RJ1 point

Thank you, alas I can't remember what it's called. I put it in my computer, reversed it as in turned it over so that it looks back to front, I print a dozen on a page and then cut one out when needed. I tape to my work and apply laquer thinner sparingly, rub with the back of a spoon and hey presto, it's on my wood. After that I either apply a spray finish or go over the signature with my pyrography pen. Simples !!1 point

My unit is the NEJE Master 2 Mini. It appears to be out of production and no longer available but they offer the NEJE 3 which appears similar and comes in several configurations. You can still get one for just under $200 from the NEJE website. The one Merlin mentioned looks similar in capability. I might have exaggerated slightly about the shoe box. The unit itself measures 9" x 10.5" x 4" and the box I store it in measures 10" x 12" x 6". It will burn and area up to 110mm x 120mm. I only use mine for engraving and have not yet tried cutting with it. Setup is easy; take it out of the box and connect it to power and the computer and you are ready to go. I use the software provided by the manufacturer and it works well for me. It will accept *.jpg images for burning. I create my images using standard computer drawing software. I think that adjusting the focus is a simple task but have not yet had the need to do so. Wear eye protection glasses when using a laser as they can damage your vision. The NEJE laser comes with protective glasses. Burning wood smells bad, so don't do your burning in the house. Any other questions? There are lots of YouTube videos about using these devices.1 point

Welcome home. Beautiful work.1 point

I have mine mounted on a board. It is about 16 x12 " . I put it on the table plug in the power and the USB connector. Start the program, I use Lightburn, and I am good to go. The rest is software settings. The laser is on at a very low power so I can see where my start point is. It probably took me longer to write this than to set it up.1 point

Would Carnuba wax be an alternative?1 point -
For Ray: try these tiny lasers they only burn 3 inch square and are really easy to set up. at about 6 inch square . https://www.banggood.com/3000mW-USB-Laser-Engraver-Desktop-DIY-Logo-Mark-Printer-Carver-Laser-Engraving-Machine-p-1338648.html?rmmds=home-recommendation&ID=0&cur_warehouse=CN&trace_id=db2916555434702671 point

I ran across 3 patterns that were supposed to be bud vases. I decided to make one and insert a flameless candle instead. I had to make a couple alterations so that the switch and battery door were available. I bought a set of 3 2 inch candles, a 2" & 4" along with the 6", so I shrunk the pattern to accommodate them. Two more candle holders in the works. This one is oak and cherry with just one coat of Watco natural oil. I don't know the pattern designer's name.1 point -

Painting or Wood Burning Scroll saw cuts.
meflick reacted to Insane Dust Maker for a topic
Melanie, Tim Vande Sluis use this on the majority of his wood carvings, I tried his lessons on relief carvings etc. but somehow it just did not click for me, I then discovered scroll saw cutting, and I’m enjoying it to the full. Sadly where I stay we only get bottom end scroll saw, in fact a choice of two. Struggle to get the right blades, but I work with what I got.1 point -

I just sign my initials "BE" in my cursive writing. I have dated some items but then I thought if I am selling them, someone might look at the date and say "you have had this awhile - can I get a discount? I don't date anything anymore!!1 point -
I've used this set up for several years. My other half made it for me about 3yrs ago for my pyrography. I also use it with a cover for my final spray finishing.1 point

We are blessed. We built our present house and moved into it 17 years ago next month. The joke is that we built it for his garage workshop and my craftroom. Neeedless to say, 17 years later, and many different toys errr tools editions later both are full. My craft room, supplies have extended out of my room into the bonus room over the garage. With now being empty nesters, we talk about downsizing - except those two spaces - The laser is a desktop one like Rolf and easily moved around. The CNC and my two scroll saws and sanding equipment has been responsible for his shop space becoming fuller. He’s a good man to share his shop. My biggest problem is I can’t get rid of “that” I might want to do that hobby again (and I often do, after a long period away from it. ) we should probably rent out as a “maker space”.1 point

It’s based on a Dearing pattern that I bought a while back, but I took more than a few liberties with it. I refuse to always be a slave to the pattern, advice that Fiona Kingdon gave me a few years ago. I had the same philosophy when I did tons of stained glass years ago. I don’t have Fiona’s creative genius to just start free form cutting a masterpiece from what a piece of wood gives me, so I need creative inspiration from others.1 point

Very well done. Whose pattern? One of the nicest cat patterns I've seen.1 point

Why did the aluminum can an the magnet never date? Neither was attracted to the other. Masonite is a good choice. A Google search will give good suggestions. After cleaning try spraying the table with Teflon. It should stop future staining and gi e you a good, slick table.1 point
