  2. Just finished this .. it took a few days .. but - only because I am soooo NOT a painter. I had to figure out how to make it look like a SUNSET or SUNRISE (depending on which coast you're on) .. I looked at all sorts of pictures - my favorite being one with these clouds in it and all - but - then figured ... I'm having enough trouble just figuring out how to make a sky, what the heck am I thinking wanting to try to make a freaken CLOUD ???? So .. no clouds. Also - looked for the GIBSON headstock font. Only one guy offers it and wants $30 bucks to down load it. So - I took a picture of the headstock of one of my Gibsons - Let's see .. G I B S O N .. G U S T I N .. I only needed I only needed to make a U and a T .. the rest was there. Came out pretty cool. It's 3/16" acrylic - with a 5/8" baltic birch backer .. Kelly Moore paint on the bottom and top .. then .. acrylic paints to light up the sky. The only thing about this that I don't like - You can see EVERYWHERE I put glue .. I tried just the edges on the SUN .. in spots. You can see 'em. Then on the reflection - I was going to coat the entire back - but - it was drying way to fast to spread it around .. Any and all ideas .. would be welcome on this .. I'm going to cut another one .. with DIFFERENT TREES .. but - I have to go and draw it first. A friend of mine made this off a picture he found with no rights or anything on google - made from metal. So I made the pattern from that .. Now I think I'll try to draw a mountain scene with pines or redwoods .. or maybe just another one with Sycamores or something .. we'll see .. where I go on the next one .. but .. first .. H BOTAS sent me a plaque to cut for my grandson .. who just joined the navy .. so .. that's next up on the saw. One pic is before gluing and before the sunset/sunrise painting ..

    Another one done!

I took the pattern from the last one and shrunk it down so I could use one of the short candles that came in the set. This one is 4 inches but I have a 2 & 3 also. Not sure yet which one will look better. Gotta wait for dark.

    Sailing Ship

I've always wanted to scroll a sailing ship but never could find a pattern I liked. Searched the web and found a drawing and modified it to be scrolled. All the lines are double cut. The rigging and some of the sails and ship plank were a little complicated. The stem is also a peninsular and I was glad when I finally glued it down to the backer. The bridges were very small but luckily I didn't have any break throughs.

  6. I ran across this line image on-line and just had to convert it to a Scroll saw Pattern. I sized it to fit centered on a 5/32” x 12”x 12” Solid Core Maple Ply panel that I affixed to a Hand Painted ¼” thick BB Ply backer. The Tree of Life pattern needed a bit of work to eliminate a lot of dropouts. Also a lot of bridges added to the font letters. The lettering font of the lyrics to the song “Trees of Green” was very irregular shapes which made cutting with a spiral blade simple. Pegas #2/0 and #0 blades were used to do all the cutting. The Panel is set loose in a 1 3/4” wide Poplar Frame stained with Minwax Dark Walnut Stain and protected with multiple coats of Minwax Clear Gloss Wipe on Poly. Comments and critique welcome.

  9. I can remember seeing a photo of a scroll saw stand that worked much like a sewing machine stand. When not in use, the scroll saw folded down into the table base and the hinged top closed over it, making a cabinet with a nice smooth top. Sorry, this was years ago and I have no idea where I saw this photo. Just look at a sewing machine cabinet and how it folds to hide the sewing machine, then come up with something similar, and build it before you downsize. For machine noise, a thick padded carpet under and around the saw would isolate the vibrations of the saw and make it very quiet. It would also catch and absorb the sawdust to keep it in place until you vacuumed it up. Keep this carpet small, like 5 X 7' and you can take it out and shake the dust out of it outside too. I use a repurposed whole house vacuum with a Dust Deputy in the line before it to remove all but the micron size dust, which then blows out a vent up near the roof of my shop. This vent is pointed toward a 240 acre lake. The noise from it might make the Canadian Geese unhappy, but they make me mad enough at them that I don't care if it offends them. They graze my lawn and make a total mess of my drive and sidewalks. If the place that you move into has a central vac, maybe sending your scroll saw dust through it along with the rest of your vacuuming collection wouldn't be that bad. With the central vacuum unit far away from your living space, there is only the rush of air noise to contend with. Charley

  11. Lovely. You did a great job Frank. I'm not sure but I think the song is actually 'What a Wonderful World' by Louis Armstrong. Marg

  13. Three Miniature Birdhouse Ornaments finished. The patterns by Diana Thompson. The birdhouses are Ash, and the first 3 little birds are Purpleheart and the fourth one is Eastern Red Cedar. Cut on the Pegas scroll saw using Pegas #6 Skip blades. The finish is dipped in diluted Shellac. Comments welcome.

  16. I cant find any wood slabs in my area that aren't cracked or broken, so I made my own out of 1/2 plywood and a torch. I needed something quick and easy I could sell inexpensively at craft shows. I think they turned out okay. All 4 are Sue Mey patterns

  17. I do mostly 3D cutting, and the advantage is that the pattern paper comes off with the scrap, since the item being cut comes out of the center of the block of wood, so removing the pattern from the finished work isn't a problem. For these, I use regular stationary store rubber cement. It isn't a spray. You have to brush it on, but it does come off with mineral spirits. The plus is that it is repositionable for a short time after the pattern is applied to the work. Not long though, maybe 20 seconds. I have used it for 2D work and it does come off by wetting the pattern with mineral spirits applied to the surface of the pattern and then waiting for it to soak through. Then a light sanding of the work piece removes any residual cement and it's ready for staining/finishing. Charley

  21. done my way, lol! Very thin wood 1/8" 3 ply craft wood from the dollar store. #3 scroll reverse blade from flying dutchman primed ,painted glitter rattle can paint, and triple coated poly. Magneto font, titebond 2 glue under all the glitter and a thin thin coating on the 2020 and then I use a pencil to clean up the numbers of excess glitter. I dip what ever gets glitterd on to waiting wet glue and it sticks just the right amount of glitter and then tap the ornament to shed the excess on to a piece of copy paper and the back in the bottle. I want to get long smaller covered boxes to have what I need when I need it. This year I have used more glitter than since I joined SSV thanks to RDatelle!

  25. I bought a Pegas SS which I love. This was an upgrade from my Delta 40-694 SS which developed a engine mount issue at 4yrs(see another post about warranty problems and selling this SS and stand). I also bought the Pegas 4 legged stand. I found the stand requires larger footprint than my Delta stand(which is basically a twin to a Dewalt 788). The Pegas stand has 33x36 leg foot print at the floor level vs the Delta 3 leg stand with 18 in x 33 leg space requirement. The Pegas stand does have the capabilty to put a board across the middle bars for storage, a plus in my book. Furthermore, the Pegas table top measures 37 inches above the floor with adjustable legs at highest setting, versus the Delta table top at 41inches on its stand. I am 68 inches tall, so long legged folks might need blocks or leg extenders to make this Pegas stand work. I had to lower my seat by few inches to make my Pegas stand situation workable but never the less would like to see longer legs on the Pegas stand. Most important the Pegas SS stand came with NO ASSEMBLY instructions, only a diagram. I tried for hours to assemble and finally contacted both Grobet USA NJ and Bearwoods CS for help. Bearwoods CS rep sent the needed assembly instructions and the NJ Grobet rep also was helpful but the Bearwoods instructions were the key to my success. One needs to follow the sequence of assembly exactly. In my initial stand assembly tries I didn't have instructions and as a result I would get to the last tie bar and found it would not fit and then had to disassemble everything and restart...very, very frustrating. Also when assembling, be sure to keep the shipping bolts fastening the SS to the shipping box plywood ,one needs them later for the stand assembly. Note, also my Pegas SS came with the blade out of center, the Grobet USA rep immediately provided instructions on how to fix, so very pleased with Bearwoods and GrobetUSA NJ customer service. Once I got the Pegas stand together was a solid platform for the SS. The shop vac to the dust Pegas collector works great by the way. Also the Pegas has now larger table top available so they have addressed a lot of the Seyco advantages.
