Had to take a week off work (use it or lose it...apparently I don't take enough vacation time), so I finally got this one finished up. 3/8 bb ply, used a number of Pegas #1mg blades (maybe some 0/2's as well?). Minwax "Natural" for the eagle, "Honey" for backer and frame. Not sure why, but I didn't stack-cut this one, so just the one version. Frame is scrap from Lowes....your hardware store may vary, but Lowes won't sell any scrap or cut ends of lumber, they just give them away (even if someone needs a 7" piece off the end of a 2x4x6, they can't sell the remaining 2x4x5). I have discovered that their fence slats come on a pallet, and in between various layers of slats, there are these nasty, greenish, ratty-looking little strips about 2" wide and maybe 1/2" thick. Sanded up, they make EXCELLENT frame materials. Rough, scarred up, live-edge, great grain patterns. Usually the greenish tint is only on the surface, so sanding brings out some nice wood. They don't tend to be straight, though, but to me that makes for some nifty rustic frames.

I took the pattern from the last one and shrunk it down so I could use one of the short candles that came in the set. This one is 4 inches but I have a 2 & 3 also. Not sure yet which one will look better. Gotta wait for dark.

  19. Yes, I figured that out eventually. I'm probably going to order some. The Purebond plywood is much cheaper than baltic birch as I have no local source and have to order it. Home Depot ships it to me at no additional cost. Yesterday, I went to every Baltic Birch online source I know, and none of them could ship it to my door for anywhere near the price of maple Purebond plywood. I have a box of the 1/4-inch Purebond. It is of good quality. I have not encountered a knot or void yet, and the core seems to be made from poplar.

    Miter saw ?

I also would choose the Ridgid given those choices. The Craftsman brand is owned buy Stanley. Who makes there power tools is anybody's guess. Ridgid power tools are manufactured by Techtronic Industries, which is a subsidiary of Emerson Electric as of 2022. Founded in 1923 in Ohio, Rigid tools remains in American ownership and are typically made in China. Currently, Rigid tools are sold exclusively to Home Depot as well as on Ridgid.com

  24. Well I agree with 3 things but shop time isn,t going to happen soon. My friend came over and helped 2 hours and made things better and worse.i can see the floor in one spot but pileing stuff on my desk with no where to go is the end result.i can't get to the computer or printer.one day at a time , but it's been a few days,5 since I tryed to make ends meet. I have to work myself to the back of thev25' warehouse where it,s nothing but wood that needs to be organized for a start that will clear up shelf space ,floor space etc. I have 13 full size garbage plastic cans full of hard wood timber , thick short stuff. I was putting them on the 2x4 shelf's a year or so ago and realized you cannot put the weight of a tree on a shelf so that's why they are where they are and on wheels.i,m just going to have to stack them one by one on the floor to open up a 10' x 10' space so I can move and still get to things.

  30. Covid never got us. We just gained weight. We found the key is "naps". We do small tasks and then sit a spell. Maybe read a bit. That makes us sleepy. So then a nap. I've gotten more active in my shop. The weather is cooperating. Not hot or humid. Glad to see/hear from you Kevin. Hang in there.

Start with the feet. Those little tiny details are, in my opinion, the worst to cut (takes longer to move then blade than it does to make the cut). The rest of it was a fun cut! Much as I hate those little bits around the feet, I do appreciate how much detail they bring to the project.

  34. Really depends on the ornament design and how I made it, LOL.. I use both Danish oil and or the water base poly.. I like lacquer too as it dries very fast.. But I do have issues with the strong smell from lacquer so I don't use that very often.. If I need fast dry and having to spray inside the shop then it's water base poly. If it's a nice day and I can take my spraying outside then it's lacquer. LOL

Different stores have different policies, I guess...I've had a lumber guy tell me he needed to take them up front and initial them so everyone knew I wasn't stealing them (used a Sharpie, sanded off easily enough), and another guy on another trip kinda chuckled and said "you want to help take out our trash? Pull your truck up, how many ya need?" Taken some busted pallets of their hands that way, too.

  36. Thanks for sharing about Jaeheon’s new book published by Fox Chapel. I know many here are familiar with Jaehon as he has been a participating member here in the village for a a few years now. He has shared several of his fun puzzles here in the past. @namunolie Is his user name. I had seen where Fox Chapel had published him in the magazine, glad he is also publishing a book of his puzzles. Congratulations Jaehon on both. He also has an Etsy shop where he sells patterns as well. https://www.etsy.com/shop/Namunolie

  38. Sounds like you're going to have to buy a welder and start welding two blade together to get the length blade you need.. Okay so seriously here is what you need to do. First take a tape measure and with the upper arm in the down as low as it'll go position measure the distance between the arm and the table top at the back of the saw and then at the front of the saw.. They're supposed to be parallel so you need to turn the knob at the back of the saw and bring that upper arm down until it's the same distance and both ends of the arm. This is a common issue with these as they get older as the threads get worn in the threaded shaft and in the threaded block that it threads into. My saw started doing this and then got real bad.. just cutting for one small cutout the blade tension would change during the cut and I'd have to adjust it so I took the saw apart and added blue colored loc-tite to the threads and I haven't had any issues since then. A lot of folks just wrap a rubber band around it in some way to hold the thing enough. There is a few topics out there on this issue.. one of which I did on taking it apart and doing the loc-tite fix and then there are some on how to wrap the rubber band around it to hold it from moving.

  43. I find that by spraying one side only, the paper is easily removable and can be repositioned, but each time the adhesion gets weaker. For a permanent bond I spray both surfaces and once tacky, almost dry, place them together and apply pressure. Not never coming apart then
