  1. Just a quick project. Left over poplar, bb ply and ???? Home team is Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Currently 3/0. Also back to back Grey Cup winners! Hopefully we can make it 3 this year!!!

  2. As an alternative (and maybe less costly?), a "branding iron" could be fashioned, small enough to attach to an electic wood burning pen. Heat it up - press against the back of the backer - and [Bob's your uncle"] done.

  7. August will be 3 years on the blue thread locker stuff and it still stays pretty good does move a 1/16 turn every month or so now.. but this is 350 hours run time.. probably 6-10 years for a average scroll sawer, LOL... didn't have to buy thread lock as I keep it around for the set screws that go into the blade clamps as the locking jam nut doesn't seem to stay where I put it so I tossed the jam nut in the junk drawer and use the thread lock .. I know you have to take the saw apart to do that and it's about a 1 hour job to take just the adjustment rod apart and apply the thread locker to it and re-assemble it.. about a half day you can take the whole saw apart and re-grease the bearings etc. so that seems like a better deal to check the saw all over good. Honestly now that I've had the saw apart a couple times.. thinking I could do the threads on the rod and toss it back together is 30 minutes.. first time I was just being careful and taking my time. Again, rubber bands work too.. for some people anyway, LOL and also cheap or free.. I just feel the thread lock is a more permanent or longer lasting option. at the end of the day you have to do what works for you though.. I can tell you I was so frustrated with how bad mine got to be I was ready to weld it solid, LOL.. Kinda glad I was calmed down when I actually made the repair..

  9. I just received a newly published puzzle book. It is titled, 20 MINUTE SCROLL SAW PUZZLES by Jaeheon Yun and published by Fox Chapel. Jaeheon is from South Korea. If you make puzzles and toys, I think you will really like this book. The puzzles are unique, different, they are simple, sweet and stackable. The puzzle designs are amazing and, the thing I really like about this book is these puzzles will make you smile. (How many woodworking books out there make you smile? ) Have a great day, JAN

  11. The first ones I propped up so air could circulate, and it took a couple of days for the smell to dissipate. Hanging them on a fan will eliminate the mineral spirits in a couple of hours.

  12. I ordered this on Amazon about a month ago. It just arrived and here are the results: I hold the brass portion in front of a propane torch for 1min 15-30 seconds - set it on the wood for 5 seconds or less and this is the result. I am pleased with it.

I find that if I set small goals to do things that bring joy to others I am more motivated. A small, random act of kindness is fuel for tomorrow.

  16. I think Scott ( Iggy ) uses a small laser for engraving names on his key / leash holders he makes.. He bought one some years ago and for the life of me I cannot think of the name / brand of it be I'm pretty sure he's still using it to this day. I've not messed with the smaller table top type lasers.. I know they're not very powerful but the time it takes isn't much of a concern to those in the hobby and just engraving a small name / logo etc. While some folks would set it up and go do some other work.. you don't want to leave these unattended... after all they're burning wood.. something goes wrong and the laser stops moving it's not very long for a fire to start. I recommend anyone using these to have a fire extinguisher handy.

  24. Covid never got us. We just gained weight. We found the key is "naps". We do small tasks and then sit a soell. Maybe read a bit. That makes us sleepy. So then a nap. I've gotten more active in my shop. The weather is cooperating. Not hot or humid. Glad to see/hear from you Kevin. Hang in there. Kevin, I feel your pain. But in miniature. My shop is tiny. But I keep acquiring more wood. I can't stand to see wood go anywhere except into woodworking projects so I keep dragging it home. I haven't gotten to saving pallets yet but I'm not ruling it out. It's probably a good thing I don't have a warehouse like you. Just take it day by day.

  30. I painted a line on mine and it does move a bit. I keep an eye on it and have to turn it a quarter turn back ever couple of hours of cutting. The more drill holes, the more it moves.

Removing patterns attached with 3M77 spray adhesive, and in this case, because the material is flooring samples, there are labels on the back side that I want to remove.

    Finishing Ornaments

I "Finish" all of my projects, which include decorations. Tree deco's I and toys I finish in a gloss lacquer, Fret worked portraits I finish with a 30% gloss lacquer. Some times I paint them in various metallic colours and or with a glitter.

  35. Thanks Dan. Great info. Up til now I've dipped everything in Watco oil but it takes at least 3 days to dry enough prior to spraying with Zinnser's shellac. Since HD doesn't sell MS nearby, would mixing paint thinner be ok? I'd like to try the boiled linseed oil once my Watcos is gone.

  37. Thanks for sharing about Jaeheon’s new book published by Fox Chapel. I know many here are familiar with Jaehon as he has been a participating member here in the village for a a few years now. He has shared several of his fun puzzles here in the past. @namunolie Is his user name. I had seen where Fox Chapel had published him in the magazine, glad he is also publishing a book of his puzzles. Congratulations Jaehon on both. He also has an Etsy shop where he sells patterns as well. https://www.etsy.com/shop/Namunolie

  44. I have the same saw. I do my own up keep, oiling grease, and so far only one minor problem, I had to put a small nut back on that I had noticed while I was doing my oiling and greasing. So I am keeping my fingers crossed. I bought mine in 2019

  46. I bought some nice parchment type paper and made up some stationary with my name and added "Esq" to my name. It gives the impression that I'm an attorney. When I write a letter, it seems to be taken seriously. Luckily I don't have many opportunities to use them.
