    JU-52

My wife's niece from Germany visited us last month. She is crazy for everything Lufthansa. She knows many of the crews and has even been written up in their in-flight magazine. She is a Dr. of research oncology but would give it all up to fly for them. She has her private licence. Problem is she is too short and can't reach the pedals on the airliners. I told her I would do a Lufthansa plane for her. She always loved the Junkers JU-52. This aircraft came out in 1932, shortly before the DC-3 and was Lufthansa's first airliner. It looks similar to the Ford Tri-motor and has the same corrigated skin. Several aircraft are still flying and there are some Youtube videos of one based in Switzerland. The cutting was a challenge because so much of the aircraft is painted black and all the straight lines of the corrigation and I also elimated the doors underneath. They close up in flight. I had to add some extra bridges to keep it all together.

  2. A project finished Monday, July 4th. The pattern is by Judy & Dave Peterson and found in their book, Making Wooden Dinosaur Toys and Puzzles. I used 3/4" Poplar. It is approximately 5 1/2" x 11". Cut on the Pegas Scroll Saw using Pegas #3R MGT blades and Pegas #1 Spiral blades for the veining. After sanding with a Mac Mop, dipped in diluted Shellac and then sanded again. Blades purchased from artcraftersonline.com. Comments welcome.

    Summer Scroll Saw Challenge

Not really scrolling related, but I wanted to share a camping trip my son and I took last week. I think I'll have to make something to commemorate the trip. A great way to recharge the soul and make awesome memories with my boy!

  7. Must be something to do with John's I had never heard of it either, But.............................. then again it could be because we don't have snow
    3 points
  8. John, yes it is used to add texture usually to painted projects that you want “snow” on, at least that was its original intent when put out. Decorative painters like Tole Painters, or like Sheila Landry’s painted projects have been using it for years. But as Don has shown, it can be used to add a white texture to any white item like here on the gnome’s beard which decorative painters have also done so it’s not limited to using for just “snow”. It has been around for many years so perhaps you have been living a sheltered life.

    Tree of life, again

Hello every one, a request from my sister-in-law (I have a few) I show you my last work, again a Tree of life but I liked to make it. I broke 2 or 3 blades but I didn't regret. It's white oak Thickness 6mm ( 0.236 inch) Diameter 15 mm (5.90 inches) The support is tinted.

  10. The 1st 8 pics are new ones. I have made for the 1st time. I posted a movie of some of the rockers. The hearts are glued in, as I feel they are a little small for nippers. Also a pic of them all together, shrink wrapped and ready to go. All cut from radiata pine 25 - 30mm thick. 2 coats of clear gloss lacquer. Used Olson PG#7 for cutting exterior and PG#5 for inside cuts. Veining with FD#3 Spiral Also tried Olson Mach#7 They cut like a hot knife through butter, but do not leave as smooth a finish as the others.

  13. Thanks heaps, Barb, Rod and Brenda. I usually paint the colours by hand, however, I decided to give my airbrush a shot this time, but it was not as successful as I had hoped. I did the red and some black with it. I reverted to the good old brush. I use normal household water based acrylics in either a flat or satin, then cover with clear gloss lacquer, cutting back with 320g paper between coats. The same is done with the most colour, 2 coats and cut back between. I have 90% of my colours in 1 litre, some in 4 litre tins as I used to make hundreds of toys. Now I find that if I want a new colour I will get a sample pot.

  15. Another way to reproduce this project would be to just make a paper copy of the photo (full size) and glue it to the wood and cut out. Quick and no painting...no mess. Cute project. What is DecoArt® Snow Writer Paint? JAN

    Pets Scroll Saw Challenge

So in my family, we have 2 dogs, and 2 cats. Our pets outnumber the people in our house. With the weather getting nicer, the dogs want to spend more outside, and our cats love watching the bird feeder outside of our window. So this month's scroll saw challenge is about our furry little friends. Dogs, cats, birds, snakes, hamsters, etc. Post a pic of a project related to pets. It can be a pet portrait, dog leash holder, treat jar, or whatever. I can't wait to see what y'all come up with!

    Miter saw ?

I am in the market for a new miter saw, have a lot of quarter round and baseboard to do in the near future, I had a 25 year old craftsman that bit the dust. Looking for recommendations of saw that is not to heavy, because it has to be mobil, and is accurate. If anyone has one you are happy with, I would appreciate the brand and model, thx for your help, RJ

    Peacock for my wife

I ran across this pattern on a European scroll saw page and asked where I could buy the pattern. I was drawn into it at first sight. I never received an answer but posted that I was looking for it. Luckily someone responded and I was able to get the pattern. It was in a format that I have never seen and I was unable to use it. I have a good friend who was able to change it into a format that I could use. After I got it printed, I decided I was not skilled enough to make it. I was kidded a lot about when i was going to make the project. So I finally decided I would at least give it a try. This is the end results and fortunately for me, my wife really liked it and it is now hanging on our front room wall. Each feather has 50 holes and there are about 36 feathers in the project. That meany each feather was going to take in the neighborhood of an hour to cut. Well long story shortened, I finally got through the project. I was not happy with the painting on the body of the bird, but other than that, I am happy with the overall results. Dick heppnerguy

  22. Thanks Charlie The secret Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh is a chewed twig, but dry the chewed end before using When we had rental house, many years ago, I did my annual inspection and the tenants had painted the lounge-room walls. I'm sure they used a straw broom. They also used it to fly around looking for new accommodation

    Puzzles, Puzzles and Puzzles

I don't know how John does it, but I have a router table set up with a 1/8 round over for the small ones and 3/16 or 1/4 for larger projects. Then a MAC mop. Many years ago I got a Christmas ornament from John it showed me how projects should feel!

  31. I just made the Elephant and baby model. I used a sanding mop to relieve the edges but your versions show even more rounding of the edges and it enhances the item. How are you getting the rounded edges? Bruce

    pot chair

well, after reading the title, then seeing the “pot chair” I thought it was for growing that particular leafy plant. I agree, nice work on it no matter what is “potted” in it.

    My setup

Toughbuilt TB-S550 https://toughbuilt.com/product/124-miter-saw-stand-based-on-c124 The factory supports are not tall enough for the Scroll saw, I am replacing them with HF roller supports which will allow the height I need. If you are not intending to do over size projects you won't need the extra height. I've used this stand with the HF lunchbox planer and it was rock solid, so it's not surprising that it handles the scroll saw very well.

    Eagle

This was a gift when I retired, it’s been wrapped in bubble plastic for 6-7 yrs. I found it this morning whilst looking for something else, gave it a good polish and will hang it up in the cottage. Because I’m doing scroll saw work now this Intarsia project has inspired me to add this to my list of projects I must try.

  47. My dog smiles a lot.......I don't have to feed him, I don't have to take him for a walk and I do not have to follow him around with a pooper-scooper. This is another example of ADDING COLOR TO SCROLLING. The only painting required was to paint the edges yellow. Art work was simply glued on. The finished results LOOKS like it was painted.
