  1. Hey everyone! In this scroll saw project video I make this beautiful lighthouse scene! This Steve Good design uses 3 layers of 1/4 inch material layered together to create a beautiful 3D effect! Hope you all like the video! #ArtisanPirate

  2. As many of you already know I and my family left Ukraine and we are safe in Latvia now. We had to make this difficult decision and leave everything to be safe. I spent a lot of time to draw up many documents for different social and government services and finally it is time to return to pattern making. I used to make photos and video to show my customers how finished projects (mostly layered) look like. Unfortunately I cant do it now. But I started learning new for me program - LightWave 3D. Luckly I have experience with programs for 3D modeling and visualisation. I took my recent pattern (C198-fox) and tried to work with it. And here are first results. What do you think about such 3D previews? Fox pattern

Looks great. I also am an impatient person which is why I tend to not do anything with glue-ups.

    Scrollsaw Bowl

I felt compelled to try to make a segmented bowl again. For an impatient person it's hell. Cut and glue and cure and cut and cure and glue etc. Walnut, yellowheart and padauk.

Bowls are not that hard to make. Just requires attention to detail and a lot of sanding. Placement of drill holes is very important.

    Ornament Patterns?

Bobscroll has a pattern of 3 posted here at the village. They are sayings but could be resized easily. I also believe Steve Good has some on his site. Hope this helps.

    Ornament Patterns?

Kevin, I am not aware of any. A quick Google style search did not turn up any actual patterns that I could find, however, a search for. Ornaments of each type turned up lots of ones you can get “Ideas” from to then craft your own.

I encourage you to give it a try. Toughest part of the cutting is following the line, while cutting on an angle. Saws with tilting heads make this task much easier. Sanding the glued up rings smooth can be a bit tedious, especially if you don't have anything other than a random orbit sander. Carole Rothman is the master of these things. Check out one of her books. Lots of great ideas for all skill levels and very good instructions on how to make them.

  21. I hadn't planned on buying this book because, if I order through Fox Chapel the shipping and exchange rates make it way too expensive. I was just at the local bookstore with my (visiting) cousin and saw it. Pick it up and said, "This one is coming home with me". Got to the register and my cousin picked up the tab for being a house guest!! Yeah me!

    Ted Lasso

I'm sure lots of folks won't know this guy but he's from a show on Apple TV that my son, my wife and I really enjoy. He's a soccer coach and has a sign in the locker room that says BELIEVE. I added the goldfish because of some advise he gave a player. "You know what the happiest animal on Earth is? It's a goldfish. You know why? It's got a 10-second memory. Be a goldfish!" If anyone's a fan of the show and wants a copy of the pattern, let me know.

Hot off the saw. I stack cut these out of 1/4 inch poplar, #1 FD Polar blades, #65 drill bit, no finish yet. Can you tell the top piece from the bottom?

  25. Thanks John. The first one, from Good Will Hunting is my pattern I did from a photo. The one from Good Morning Vietnam however was from a black and white drawing I found on Pinterest or some site like that that only needed a little tweaking to make cuttable so I can't take any credit for that one. Charles is truly amazing. I cut his Gandalf the Gray and I can't imaging having the patience to do a pattern with that kind of detail. I usually do mine while watching television with the fam. I made this one of Ben Stiller from the movie Zoolander (One me and my son quote a lot) while watching several episodes of The Office tonight with my wife. Fun stuff.

Nicely done, I like the different stripes of wood species you have there.. go well together. I've been wanting to try this sometime, I have a scrap piece of glue up from making a lazy susan and a pattern from Steve Good all on it. Got side tracked with a order for something else and lately my spare time going to a project car..

WoW Dick. You outdid yourself with that one. Almost as bad as the clock tower. Great job. You have a lot of patience to cut all thos feathers. I guess you never know what you can do until you try it. Remember I never thought I could do that clock tower.
