    Name Puzzles x2

Completed these 2 today. It has been a long time since I made any name puzzles and I had to stop and stir the grey matter a few times to bring back my methods. Cut from 6mm mdf with a 3mm mdf backer. I used a Pegas PG#3 and should of used a #5. The pieces are a little more snug than I like when making puzzles for little hands. Isabel 310mm x 105mm, Charlie 370mm x 105mm. The dot on the I is glued in place.

    Useful.....

Hello everybody, I watched Steve Good's catalog and I saw this. I found this funny and useful. I made it with leftover pieces of plywood and paint Bonne journée. Eric

    Mr. Ed

I did a very quick cut of a Horse Head pattern I converted from a free stencil I found on-line. The cut panel is 5/32 x 10 x10 solid core Maple mounted on a ¼ x12x12 Cherry Backer that I stained dark with Minwax Honey. I added the “Mr Ed”(*) to the pattern, and yes I had to glue in the center of the “d”. The Frame is ¾” wide pine, primed and then painted with Glidden Max-Flex Chocolate Pretzel/Satin. It is not the Tan I was hoping for. Their colors are strange! Everything was competed in just two days. Comment and critique always welcome. * I recently delt with a Hearing Aid Specialist that treated me very well. When he mentioned his name he made a point of saying it was “Ed”… like “MR. ED”. The Show and the horse popped into my head and just had to cut a piece for him to display in his facility. Could not quite get a good likeness of the actual horse from the show, but thought this simple horse head pattern would do. I have a follow up appointment with him tomorrow and will give it to him then. EDIT 7/22: He loved it. Hung it up right next to the reception desk. I was pleased.

    Dassault Falcon 900DX

I was wandering through Pinterest and came across and picture of the Dassault Falcon 900DX. In an earlier life, I had been an aircraft mechanic and had worked on some of the previous versions of this aircraft. The twin engine Falcon 20 came out in 1965 and was initially marketed by Pan AM. This was one of the first corporate jets for major companies like Pepsi and Bristol Myers. When the economy turned down in the early '70's , many were sold. The fledgeling Fed Ex was being started up by Fred Smith and he purchased several and had them modified for a large cargo door. They eventually had 33 aircraft but had to migrate to larger aircraft as the business grew. The economy started to turn around in the mid 70's and Dassault started building larger aircraft like the F50, F200, F2000 and the F900 series to satisify the demand for more fuel efficent range, more seating and updated avionics. The F900DX was in production for '04 to '11 and is still sought after as reliable large mid size corporate jet. The plaque is 11 x 14" on BBPW with a shellac/lacquer finish. Hardest part was probably the landing gear because of all the small cuts and I used the "paint-in" method on the engine cowlings and tires. The aircraft looks to be in the approach mode with flaps down and the DLE (Droop Leading Edges) down to slow the aircraft down for landing.

    Golf Cart

This is a Steve Good pattern I just finished for my brother who is a golfer. I'll give it to him for Christmas or sooner, if I can't wait. LOL. It's made out of Cedar and Paduk and layered with the differend wood. The name is B/B ply. Hope he likes it.

  12. Thanks Todd, I limited my time in the shop to AM because of the heat. I'm a glutton for punishment and we are heading to HHI for some sand and sea food and more humidity. When I'm back, I'll contact you about swapping more SS stories over some good food.

  13. Thanks Bernd, I hope all is well in this heat.

  14. I will try some acetone and then carb cleaner. I hope one of those works as I don’t want to have to cut that script again, it was a slow process using a mgt #3 and going back over a few sections with a #0 spiral blade. Thank you for all the suggestions.

  15. My only guess is that the MS caused some of the toner to bleed thru. Otherwise I have no idea.

  16. If all else fails, maybe a little acetone (nail polish remover)?

  17. I use rubbing alcohol to remove some of the burn residual from laser cut / engraving on wood and it wipes it right off.. Usually just put a little of it on a paper towel or a Q-tip and it works well.. not sure if it will work with this.. but worth a try I suppose.

  18. Try this: use spray carburetor cleaner and some paper towels, get the toner wet then sop up with the paper towels.

  19. Beautigul cutting Todd @Badgerboy, lots of skill and lots of patience showing in that. Regrets I do not have any magic on how to remove that, you might have to cut it again, maybe using a different method of attaching the pattern this time so you do not need to use mineral spirits to remove it. Question, why was there still toner ink remaining on the pattern after you did the cutting?

  20. Hi Todd, I used to have this happen to me until I started using blue tape on my cuts outs. Before removing the whole pattern I would pull off the blue tape first and then all of the dark pattern cut off pieces would either drop off or lift off. What was left, I would push out with an exacto knife, then I would remove the rest of pattern using Goof Off. It drys off clean. Not sure how deep the bleeding is but when it has happened, I usually had to sand it out. When I do my paint-in method for tires and the like, if I go outside the lines, I use a razor blade to scrape the over run paint (acrylic)Hope that helps.

  25. If you've already filed it down it either needs more and/or the rod needs adjusting. It's probably too long and needs shortening. Get well!

  26. thanks, Ray - yeah, I saw that tip on grinding off the corner of the plate and did it while I had it apart. I've only ran the saw that few minutes in the video - I just don't have the energy or ambition right now to do anything. (just recovering from Covid-19). When I finally get my stamina back, I'll take some time to get it fine-tuned and start cutting some projects. I haven't had a decent scroller since the late '70s. So this is quite an addition to the shop.

By steel brush, I meant that as cutting with the blade and the results looking like being painted with a paint brush! My sister was a born artist so I just picked up that term for what I do and the excellent cuttings of other scrollers. Erv

  32. The racket you are hearing at high speed is coming from the tension rod. It needs adjusting and there is a spot of the aluminum cover that it is contacting that needs to be filed down just a tad. There is a good write-up here at http://www.scrollsaws.com that tells/explains about it. Check it out and make the awful noise go away. Congrats on a real great "barn find".

  39. GAWD...this month is a tough one.......... "I guess, "put the kids in the car and go for a long ride in the country." (another simple "adding color to scrolling" project) Art work was done with felt tip pencils on a sheet of paper. A copy was made of the art work and glued to the wood. A couple of clear coats were added and it was done. It LOOKS like it was hand painted. ( both sides are different). JAN

  42. My daughter gave a list of wedding projects to cut in the shop for her impending nuptials. One was this little sign. After cutting the script and peeling the pattern I was disappointed to find that apparently some of the toner ink bled into the BB ply when I sprayed mineral spirits on to remove the pattern. I have never had the happen before and I know the mark was not there before applying the pattern. I have tried a slurry of baking soda and just plain bleach but no luck. Does anyone have some wisdom to share on how to remove this black streak above the “n”?
