Finished this today, I used 1/4 MDF for the cutting with a 1/8 BB backer. The frame is poplar and stained with Behr natural color stain and two coats of Deft lacquer.

    Useful.....

Hello everybody, I watched Steve Good's catalog and I saw this. I found this funny and useful. I made it with leftover pieces of plywood and paint Bonne journée. Eric

    Name Puzzles x2

Completed these 2 today. It has been a long time since I made any name puzzles and I had to stop and stir the grey matter a few times to bring back my methods. Cut from 6mm mdf with a 3mm mdf backer. I used a Pegas PG#3 and should of used a #5. The pieces are a little more snug than I like when making puzzles for little hands. Isabel 310mm x 105mm, Charlie 370mm x 105mm. The dot on the I is glued in place.

    Flashback...

This photo memory popped up on my phone this morning as I was setting up for my weekly market. 6 years ago today compared to today. Amazing the evolution. That was my 5th market ever, had just gotten started. Setup in almost the exact same spot...

  9. Love the raven! Now, add a backer paper and box it in to create a nightlight. I did this with a Steve Good pattern.

Great job! I really like the finish. If it had a little more orange and yellow, it would almost look like flames.

  16. Having read all the DIY articles on addressing the knocking noise, I pretty much eliminated all that I could find and fix myself. The question I have now is for the Tensioning Rod, Part# 24. From what I can see, this rod (or its parts) does not move when in use. There are no moving parts that come in contact with it while in use. So, how is adjusting this rod a potential solution to any knocking sounds ?? I have a very simple mind. I just can't figure out why some people say this "may be" one of the culprits. So, what am I missing here ?? (before I put it back together again for the 6th time).

  17. yep - that's how I lucked out in this one - the seller didn't have the knowledge, ambition or time to mess with it. So he just "got rid of it". Hopefully, someone will stumble across the conversations and this excercise will get them to get up and running. Thanks again for tips. John

  20. The Eagle is by Janevski. In the original, the image is actually rotated about 45 degrees (tail up). I posted the Reven in PDF format on New Pattern announcements. Great cutting on both.

Nice job and great colors! Someone mentioned sometime back that they cut puzzle letters on a slight angle to make them easier for little hands to put in. I’m going to give that a shot next time I do one. Oh, nice of you to cut me a puzzle.

Craig, Great subject and well cut, but.... Not overly fond of the coloring. There needs to be a difference between the face and what would be the background. Also, my lady just peeked over my shoulder to look at the pic. It took her a long few minutes to recognize what the image was. Please refer back to my recent Question in Q&A and specifically to my last responce to munzieb. Your choice of the image size vs. panel size is exactly what I was refering to. Between the lack of color distinction and lack of space around the cutting, the image gets lost to the viewer. Hope I did not offend you by with this constructive critique.

  35. Just tell people the label messed him up! Great cutting, though. Sorry it happened. May try flipping it around and removing the rear label or painting it so you don't mess up the primary label. Forgive my ignorance. I went back and looked closer at your picture and saw that is on the back.

    Mr. Ed

I did a very quick cut of a Horse Head pattern I converted from a free stencil I found on-line. The cut panel is 5/32 x 10 x10 solid core Maple mounted on a ¼ x12x12 Cherry Backer that I stained dark with Minwax Honey. I added the “Mr Ed”(*) to the pattern, and yes I had to glue in the center of the “d”. The Frame is ¾” wide pine, primed and then painted with Glidden Max-Flex Chocolate Pretzel/Satin. It is not the Tan I was hoping for. Their colors are strange! Everything was competed in just two days. Comment and critique always welcome. * I recently delt with a Hearing Aid Specialist that treated me very well. When he mentioned his name he made a point of saying it was “Ed”… like “MR. ED”. The Show and the horse popped into my head and just had to cut a piece for him to display in his facility. Could not quite get a good likeness of the actual horse from the show, but thought this simple horse head pattern would do. I have a follow up appointment with him tomorrow and will give it to him then. EDIT 7/22: He loved it. Hung it up right next to the reception desk. I was pleased.

  41. I pretty much made it flat from the rear to the front on the belt sander like this example. I'll spend some time in the trouble shooting section of the link you provided when my mental capacity improves (LOL if there is such a thing). I think that replacing and repacking all the greased fittings made a huge difference. Now, just to get it fine-tuned to run like a sewing machine. I can see now that a new potentiometer is in the near future. thanks again for the kind words

Jim, if it wasn't for the fact that everyone knows you and that all of your projects are indeed cut with a scroll saw, it would be very hard to believe that you are not using a laser to produce these beautiful plaques! The cutting is absolutely perfect! I have been doing this hobby since 2005 and have yet been able to turn out letter cutting any thing like this! At times I come close until I take a closer look! You are the master with the steel brush! Erv

  50. Another fun project. i again love how you do your videos. You do a swell job with them and I can't stand the videos that others make and do their work with no talking and a lot of annoying music all through the video. Thanks again for your presentations, and keep up the good work and postings. Dick heppnerguy
