Hi from Barbara This is to share as you guys are fully to blame for getting me so addicted to this hobby. This is not complaint it is in recognition of your input. My scroll saw has a mate. My husband has got me a second had Ryobi scroll saw. From a man who has cared for it and stopped using it. It had no bits for the pinless blades. To my excitement the hardware store near us has been changing and added a more available tools and service and got me the goodies. So eager was the Ryobi guy. It is one of our best choices and today i am going to try one of your practice sheets and cut as I told hubby I had a shock when trying to use it. I jumped and turned it off as I was so sacred I had broken it but it was that I was used to a different feel with the other one. I am keeping old faithful. BEST BIRTHDAY GIFT EVER FROM HUBBY.

This Horse Head pattern was converted from an available on-line image to add to my Horse theme pieces. The conversion transformed a positive image into a negative for cutting. The cut panel is 5/32” thk x 11 x 17 solid core Maple mounted to a 1/4” thk darkened oak backer. The cutting was done with Pegas #1 MGT R. Assembled panel was finished with multiple coats of Deft Clear Gloss Spray Lacquer. The Frame is 1 ¾” wide Poplar. The frame was distressed and finished with Minwax Early American Stain protected with Clear Satin Spray Polyurethane. Comments and Critique always welcome.

I was getting ready to paint a backing for a piece and was going to do the usual and lay it on some scraps. I saw I had a bunch of paint can caps and came up with this idea to put some screws in and turn them into free painters points.

    If I MAY SAY HELLO

Excellent cutting and well put together. This too, is one of my favourite songs. My youngest son is autistic and many years ago< he was 2< I took long service leave from the Police force and we travelled around Australia for 3 months. At a small caravan park in South Australia, there was a group of entertainers staying. Everybody was sitting around a camp fire just chatting when this huge Thursday Islander fellow, picked up our son and sang this song to him. He sounded so much like Satchmo, that with your eyes closed you'd of sworn it was the man himself.

    Breaking Down Costs

Many folks that are retired now worked for a company that valued them, gave out some sort of pension gave out some health insurance that you didn't have to pay a big chunk of your earnings to have that insurance.. Back when people wanted to work and be proud of what job they had and did.. The employer didn't consider you as a number and did their best to keep you with them and gave you a sense of stability that you'll be working next week, month, year etc.. IF you have to fend for yourself no matter what, you might as well do all of it on your own.. Times have changed a great deal.. maybe even before your times but I can say it was way better to work for someone 30-40 years ago than it is now.. People talk about how the young folks don't want to work and shortage of workers everywhere.. ALL the young folks I know don't want to work for greedy corporations, especially when these young kids have all the opportunities with just doing stupid YouTube videos and can make more money.. a young man about 6-8 years old building things out of legos on YouTube makes about $10,000 a month.. you suppose he's going to happily take a pay cut and go work for a sweatshop making $15 -20 an hour? People are fooling themselves about how this next generation is lazy and don't want to work.. it's more that they know what they can do and many are doing it online.. These kids are taking over Hollywood stars just being themselves on YouTube ,TikTok and other sights.. and they don't have managers and all the middle men taking the majority of their income either.. they get famous and "companies" want to sponsor them so these kids get cool clothing and whatever else free just to show it on their videos.. which brings me to this.. My son likes to ride BMX bicycles and do stunts etc.. he shows his riding etc. on instagram.. just short 30sec. - 1 min. clips of him doing jumps and stunts.. He has had companies offer hats, shoes, and you name it.. for free if he'll wear this stuff doing his stunts.. He's not trying to get popular or to start a entertainment gig at all.. he was doing these videos etc. just showing friends and followers his BMX tricks.. this stuff here is how "easy" it is right now for many of these young kids to just do what they like to do and make money.. yet you get grilled in a interview for a job that you really don't want anyway.. WHY go work when these opportunities are there to just play? especially when a real jobs pay sucks and very little if any recognition for the job from your boss when you can be recognized by a lot of folks for just playing and doing what you like / want.. Employers are going to have to step up their game, kids don't want their crappy $5000 - 10,000 sign on bonuses.. etc.. and then be treated as just another worker..

    Breaking Down Costs

When I stop enjoying it, I'll stop doing it. So far, after 6 years, I still love every minute at my saw and every hour at whatever craft event I'm at. And if it puts a spare $20,000 in my pocket each year after expenses that I can have fun with and enjoy with the family, even better. My full time day job is stressful, but also allows me the luxury of sneaking into the garage some times in between conference calls and cut a puzzle or two. My "free" mental therapy." I could never come close to what I make at the day job with my little hobby business, believe me I've tried crunching the numbers, but not just the paycheck, but the health insurance, etc, makes it impossible. If I'm still doing this in 8 or 9 years when I retire, great... some added retirement income as well. I enjoy staying busy and knowing that I could stop at any time if I need a break.

That is a great picture of him... You should cut another, send two to him and one to send back after he signed it...What a keepsake. I am not a concert kind of guy, but for Dad's weekend, when my son was in college, (a long time ago) one of the attractions was a Garth Brooks concert,, back when he was a at his popularity peak.. What a concert! He never stopped entertaining... even when his back up and band took their union break, he stay on stage and entertained... Why back when he hung on to a rope and swung way out over the audience.. I have to admit it was all pretty awesome... it was COOL, baby COOL! Back when he had "Friends in low Places"!

    Filling Time

When I was doing the finish on my stagecoach project I wanted something to cut while the stains, finishes or glue was drying. This is an 8 1/2 X 11 pattern by Grampa that I double stack cut using 1/4 Maple and 1/4 Oak ply. The Maple was finished with Minwax Colonial Pine stain and finished with 5 coats of clear gloss spray sanded between cuts. The Oak was finished with Minwax Natural stain and also has 5 coats of clear gloss spray. Something I did a little different is I sprayed the Birch backer with flat black rather than my typical gloss black. Both frames are pre-manufactured framing material that I cut to size. I used a Pegas 0 spiral blade. This was a lot of fun to cut after the more demanding requirements of the stagecoach. Thanks Grampa!

    Breaking Down Costs

The key point here is "having fun" and getting paid to do it. Who could complain about that. I have been doing handyman stuff around the park where I live and I enjoy it. I make a few bucks and help out the older folks who can no longer do it themselves. But, when I start to feel "used", I don't take the job. It's my time and I'll use it whatever way I want to. Except I have to check with the wife first. LOL.

I saw a concert of his, about the same time, on DVD, an amazing amount of energy. He has so many songs that I like it would take quite awhile to list A few are "The Thunder Rolls", "Friends in Low places", "Mama's in the grave yard Papa's in the pen", "Unanswered prayers", ete etc @Charlie E Another winner mate. You are on a roll. If you have a sec, I'd appreciate a copy of the pattern. Don't know when I'll get around cutting him.

  42. Steve Goods pattern on Monday July 25th was called Word signs. 67 words with a backer. I was talking to my Granddaughter and she was interested for maybe doing some shirts on Circut. She asked what words were available and so I took the PDF and extracted the words and page numbers and also sorted alphabetically. I thought I would post the PDF here if anyone is interested. words with page number.pdf

    Blades breaking

At the moment I exclusively use Pegas blades. But even so, I have found that you can overtighten the upper clamp very easily when doing a lot of blade hole changes. When I overtighten, I tend to get the hockey stick bend in my blades, exspecially the smaller blades and even more so with spirals. Isuspect, like others have mentioned, your upper clamp must be cutting into the blade causing the breakage. But overtightening will speed up that breakage. I have found you only need to obtain a minimum "SNUG" tight of the clamp to hold the blade. Yes, occasionally, my blade will slip out of the top clamp, but I rather have that happen then crimping the blade. Also, overtightening the tension can cause blade breakage, but usually somewhere in cutting area of the blade, not at the clamp. Just my 2 cents!

    If I MAY SAY HELLO

Great cutting. Not only do I have the song running through my brain, but I now have tears leaking out of my eyes. This was one of my dad's favourite songs and was played at his funeral. Most recently, my sister used it as the song to dance with her son at his wedding.
