  1. Here is a little project I saw on Steve Good's site last week and decided to give it a try. I am in the process of making a neighbor one of the combines like I made during Christmas last year. I thought it would be fun to give my neighbor a windmill along with the combine to kind of set it off, as it is a farm thing too. It was a fun little project and I will most likely make a few more as I have a lot of country family folks in my family. I know they would probably like one also. It is an easy and fun project to make . This one I made with BB Ply. Dick heppnerguy

I knocked this little project out this week doing a little cutting before work. It is a modified Steve Good pattern made from 1/4 Birch ply stained with Minwax Natural stain and the backer is 1/4 underlayment material stained Minwax Espresso. I will probably tape a white cardboard piece behind the mountains to give them the snowcap look. It was cut using Pegas #2/0 R MGT blades. The dragonfly just happened to be checking out the piece when I took the photo.

  3. I saw the little word patterns that Steve Good put on his page and I thought it would be fun to see how fast I could cut it. I was bored so I printed the pattern out and went to work on it. I was not concerned about how well it was going to come out but I had some old wood given to me that my neighbor had in their garbage so planed it down and decided to see how it cut. It is 1/4 inch thick and was very rough and had a lot of paint on it. I found it easy to cut and so away I went. Due to the fact that it was not something I was going to keep or even wanted to, I got to work on it. It took me 8 minutes to cut the words and 6 minutes to cut the backer board and about one minute to spray both pieces. I had to wait about 20 minutes for the paint to dry and then I glued it and set it face down under a board and put an 8 pound weight on it for a clamp. When I took the clamp off an hour later I found out it had stuck to the paper I had it laying on and the results was ugly as part of the paper stuck to the paint that was not quite dry. Moral of story is. don't get into a rush because it is not how fast one does a project but how well. I had fun timing myself and the wood cut nicely and it was free. plus I was not interested in keeping it when I finished. I had fun challenging myself and finding out the wood will work well for some simple projects in the future. Dick heppnerguy

    Golden Eagle

I finished this project this morning. The pattern is by Jacob Fowler and found in the book “Woodworker’s Pattern Book”. I cut it on the Pegas Scroll Saw using several Pegas #1R MGT blades. The wood is1/2” unknown and 3/4” Red Oak for the base. The finish is spray Minwax Lacquer Clear Satin. Comments welcome.

About 175 pieces of wenge and aspen. I really don't consider it intarsia because every piece is the same height and very little shaping.

  9. Made a clock of the car I'm building.. BUT, now that I made it and the local performance shop owner that specializes in these cars is really into these little Chevy Cobalt SS Supercharged cars and has been consulting me a little on my build.. well I may just give it to him since he has helped steer me in the direction I'm going with my street / track car and has saved me a ton of money.. he could have sold me a lot of parts I really didn't need, LOL Anyway, cut from Cherry using a FD-UR #5 balde.

  10. Thanks to Jim for these great patterns......It's been so hot that I have been unable to spend any time scrolling out in the garage, so I thought I would give watercolor pencils a try. The projects were previously triple stacked cut with # 3 and # 1 fd scroll reverse blades and I used Arteza 48 count watercolor pencils. Also, I Just want to say that I visit this website frequently and I have been inspired by and in awe of the wonderful group of talented scrollers that populate this site. Thanks to all..... Any and all critiques welcome.....forrest

    If I MAY SAY HELLO

Good to see you’re back Scrappile. (Yeah… everyone calls ya Paul, but I chuckle every time I see your “handle”.)Thanks for posting the Trees of Green. I missed it when Frank posted it. That song is what my daughter picked, for us to dance to at her wedding, for the father/daughter dance. Looks like I’m gonna attempt it. It’s also really cool that you cut the tree and had it come out in one piece! Nice!!!!!

    Mandalorian +++

I have just finished cutting the Mandalorian pattern by Helder Botas and have added another of his patterns (shrunk) of "the Child) in the top right cnr. Cut from 4mm Hoop Pine Ply using #3 FDUR and #2FD New Spirals. One of the Mandalorian pics has glitter applied to the backer. It is hard to photograph so I've posted a few of it to give the idea. You may have click on the pics to enlarge them so as to see the glitter. I think it adds another dimension which I like. The others are of Slim Dusty, I have cut him many times before, however this time I used a thinner frame and also matted one. Mando 370 x 310mm, Slim 300 x 225mm

    If I MAY SAY HELLO

Been gone for sometime, having to readjust my life to the trials and tribulations of getting old... There are no "Golden Years" brothers and sisters, there is just "getting old, body wearing out" years... I have had to make some adjustments, but I am getting it figured out and am getting a chance to to spend some time in the shop..I really have not left the forum, I have just been present as a by-stander.. Got to say people, you have raised the scrolling bar. I see things being crafted that we did not use to do, well not much anyway... The addition of color in scrolled pieces is getting a lot more attention.. I see some really unique and beautiful productions... Kevin is back! That really had me worried.. So glad you are okay Kevin.. Scroll Saw Village would be less without you here. Over the past few weeks I have worked on a coupe things. Got to say if I had to pick a pattern of the year, for me it may be @FrankEV 's "Trees of Green". That is one of my favorite song, always lifts me up when I am somewhat down... The song has been going through my head every since he posted it.. Thought if I cut it, it would get out of my head, but it has not. So I cut it, but with a little modification.. I wanted to see some real rose looking flowers in it, after all it speaks of "red roses too". So I found some rose silhouette pictures and added them... Not real satisfied with it but am going to try some more. The four bottom black blobs were suppose to be silhouettes of rose bud... I will look further. Also I broke our three or four pieces after I finished cutting it. Got them glue back in, but it is far from good. Bad thing I cut it in a great piece of wood... but it is only wood.. this was trial one. The finished product I intend to add some color.. One thing that is an added bonus to Frank's pattern,,, If you cut the tree as one piece you get this neat little tree, to do something else with! The second thing I have recently built, this weekend in fact was just a fun project to help me keep my dogs balls in a good place. I made this ball dispenser. He is pretty happy with it, but he is pretty fussy about his balls, and was somewhat miffed that I screwed up a little on gluing the last "S" on the front.. So there it is.. Missed participating in this forum. I will be here when I can..

  23. Other day had a customer that ordered a truck clock that I have then proceeded to tell me to make it a 1970 Chevy instead of the 1978 one they ordered, LOL... hate when customers place their order and then tell you to modify it.. Like shouldn't the custom request be done before ordering.. I'm thinking about ordering a brand new 2022 Chevy 4x4 truck but then message them after paying for it and tell them to make it a 1965 truck if it works like that.. Anyway, we worked things out.. and she sent me pictures of the truck she wanted a clock made of.. and here is what I came up with.. I'm not sure what I'm missing but I feel like some detail is missing on this somewhere.. resembles a 1970 truck but just didn't turn out ( to me) great.. just okay.. LOL Cut from Cherry using Pegas MG #3 Anyway, pick it apart.. tell me what I should have done to make it better.. BTW.. this is just dipped in Danish oil.. waiting a few days before spraying a topcoat on.. Okay, so.. I forgot I just did this custom order too.. just seen the pictures ( last 3 photos ) on my computer when opening the file for the 1970 truck.. the other set of pictures is of a 1986 truck order that I just mailed out 3 days ago.. and forgot already that I did that one too.. Old Age? LOL

John, Slightly tighten the main pivot bolt on your Dewalt which will apply slight pressure and the arm will stay up on it's own. Should need 2 7/16' wrenches. Have done that for over 25 years on my old Dewalt 788 and only needed to tweak it a couple of times over the years.

  42. FYI - Ultimately it doesn't matter for this particular project as it will be painted. Making Iggy's shelves for the puzzles to stand on. I just thought it was an interesting contrast in wood and hadn't really seen that blonde of poplar.

    If I MAY SAY HELLO

Excellent cutting and well put together. This too, is one of my favourite songs. My youngest son is autistic and many years ago< he was 2< I took long service leave from the Police force and we travelled around Australia for 3 months. At a small caravan park in South Australia, there was a group of entertainers staying. Everybody was sitting around a camp fire just chatting when this huge Thursday Islander fellow, picked up our son and sang this song to him. He sounded so much like Satchmo, that with your eyes closed you'd of sworn it was the man himself.

    Stagecoach

One hole at a time, Ralph. One hole at a time. Actually I had about three or four pieces that were very tempermental. After I cut them, I put a piece of tape over them to help hold them in place and also to remind me where the "tender" areas were. Since my saw has a fixed upper arm I was afraid I would knock a piece out when trying to feed blades. If I did have a piece that was really loose, I would touch it with super glue to give it a little strength. Fortunately everything ended okay.
