I had another request for this one.
Brianr24 and 13 others reacted to heppnerguy for a topic
This is the third one of these I have cut. I struggle with the detailed models/toys but I have found that I always enjoy the challenges of them when I am making them. I originally made it with no painting because I do not have the talent for doing so. After I gave it to my friend, he said it needed to be painted so it would pop on the shelf. So then that project became even more challenging then if I would have painted it before assembly. Considering that, I have to say I am about 85 percent satisfied with the end results. I recently went to visit family in Greenville, SC. While there I saw an art piece outside that was a large piece of metal with butterflies cut and the wings were raised out of the metal. I cut a vinyl record. All Steve Good Butterflies . I warmed the butterflies with my hair blower and used metal dental picks to bend and support the wings while it cooled12 points -
I had spare ribs dripping with plum sauce the other night and couldn't help but feel sorry for all those that only eat vegies. Not only do they miss out on the taste, but the mess is something else to behold5 points

CharleyL and 3 others reacted to ScollSaw Slasher for a topic
Hey Kevin, you probably trimmed too much of the fat off the meat and that's why it didn't grow. But Michigan produce is great. As a tyke I was shipped up to southwest Michigan to my Grandfathers little farm to pick strawberries and lopes when ready. I guess that's how I got into growing my own veggies. And he was a Master Woodworker from Germany so I guess that's how I got my love for woodworking and eventually scrolling.4 points -
Awesome pattern and cutting. I think you are as insane as @Jim Blume to tackle a project like this.3 points

You liberal commie,,,,,! just joking, just joking... My father-in-law loved veggie burgers when they came out.. fake meat, made of something vegetable. It wasn't bad..but would not replace a ribeye steak...3 points

I'm not much of a gardener I guess.. I thought I was as everything veggie wise grows awesome.. in fact I give a lot of it away.. with the talk from our leaders about possible food shortages I thought I'd grow more than veggies, so this year I tilled up a much larger garden... bought some real nice steaks, ribs and bacon seeds put it out in the garden and watered it daily.. Not a single meat product grew... I'm wondering if I watered too much? anybody know? Most of it didn't grow I think because maybe some critter took some of my seeds. Also wondering if maybe I need to put "miracle grow" on it.. I think it'd be a miracle if any of it grew.3 points -

When Did They Start Offering Refurbished Pegas Saws?
Juan Rodriguez and one other reacted to kmmcrafts for a topic
Earlier today I was checking out Bearwood site for some specialty dowel rods and thought I'd snoop around the site.. They're offering refurbish Pegas saws? about $200 ( if I remember right ) cheaper.. think it said no warranty though so what kind of refurb is that? Most other refurbs I've bought either come with the same or at least came with a short warranty period.. Thought they stood by their products better than that.. LOL. I kind of think maybe they're not refurbished by the manufacture the way they have that warrantee bit written up.. https://www.bearwood.com/product8099.html2 points -
Mandalorian +++
scrollntole and one other reacted to John B for a topic
I have just finished cutting the Mandalorian pattern by Helder Botas and have added another of his patterns (shrunk) of "the Child) in the top right cnr. Cut from 4mm Hoop Pine Ply using #3 FDUR and #2FD New Spirals. One of the Mandalorian pics has glitter applied to the backer. It is hard to photograph so I've posted a few of it to give the idea. You may have click on the pics to enlarge them so as to see the glitter. I think it adds another dimension which I like. The others are of Slim Dusty, I have cut him many times before, however this time I used a thinner frame and also matted one. Mando 370 x 310mm, Slim 300 x 225mm2 points -

My tomatoes are doing great. Have several grape tomato plants and the wife loves them. It has been hot but in our area gotten good rain. My biggest problem is deer. They are just long legged rabbits and can now the garden down quickly. Two years ago, they chopped off all the Hosta blooms. I put up narrow Mylar reflective tape and that stopped them.2 points -
I've been here, jumping in and out with a few comments and reviews. Actually been very busy in the shop in between some home chore projects that need to be taken care of. I've got three projects panels in the works. Cutting is complete but still some coloring work to be completed with assembly and framing still to be done. Elsewise, a bunch of my time has been taken up using my new KKmoon laser engraver to put my LOGO on the back side of my past work. I had signed them with a simple wood burning pen and it really looked cheesy. So I have to sand off the burning and let the engraver do its thing. Cleaning up the existing panels takes a while. Remove frame, sand, engrave (about 45 minutes each), recoat back, replace in frame. Just finishing up the last of about 70+ panels I currently have on hand. I got about 6 to 8 done a day over the past couple of weeks. In addition to the above mentioned work, I have finally taken the time to accurately catalog my work in my computer and set up a portfolio book with photos of my available work. Probably more than I realy need, but I maintain a file that includes the original images and patterns in both SGV and PDF format. This file includes a lot of posssible future projects as well. I also take photos of each piece and have found I need to keep copies in both their Raw state and one in the cropped version I use herein and on my FB page. You need to use a raw image when odering prints on-line (I use Ammazon). So, I havn't posted much lately, but none the less very busy. Sometimes there is more to this hobby than just scrolling.2 points

That is why I waited so long to come back, I knew if I did the place would fall apart! I am working on a project I started months ago, one of Jim Blume's patterns. I have always been a slow scroller,, now I am a really slow scroller, but I am persistent.. I will complete it.2 points

I am not afraid of doing the work. But expense was more money for foam and parts as a new cheapy drafting chair. Plus my wife made a decision before I could find and order parts or chair.2 points

Double duty chair wore out. My wife surprised me with a new chair. She got the tall version to match the Hawk stand. . I use the chair for work from home. I moved my day job corporate computer in the garage so my indoor cats do not bother me. So I roll it to the scroll saw for double duty. Daily use wore out my old chair fast. I am 5'9 at 200 lb. We took the old one to upulstery shop they want >$200 just for materials. If they did it it would 4 month wait plus $labor. The new chair was delivered Monday night. I need it on lowest setting for scroll saw and 3 inches higher for work bench. here is a pic old vs new....2 points
-
It depends on the type of chair that you prefer. Find a chair that is comfortable and build a stand to match. I don't like sitting so my stand is designed for me standing. The miter saw stand worked out perfect, and I'm 5' 9". I have a chair that I can use with the saw, stand or sit depending on what's hurting.; the chair is a hybrid ( bottom from HF top from tractor supply ) and I cut a piece of plywood to be a foot support/foot switch platform, the plywood rests on top of where the legs bend. From the floor to the saw table is 39"2 points

Toronto Maple Leafs
Gene Howe reacted to don in brooklin on for a topic
A good friend of mine is a die hard fan. Each October, he starts planning the parade and the party for the next Stanley Cup finals. By January, he is down to when the Liefs make the playoffs. We joke all the time about when the Leafs are going to win another Championship. I made this with a white board for the year. If they ever do, he can whip out the year and the pen is there. I just hope the pen has not dried out by then.1 point -
This is a Grampa pattern I finished this weekend. Double stack Oak and Maple 1/4 ply with 1/4 pine ply backer. The Maple piece was stained with Minwax Colonial Pine as well as the Maple frame. The Oak piece was stained with Minwax Natural and the Oak frame was stained with Minwax Red Oak. Both were sprayed with 5 coats of clear gloss and lightly sanded between coats. I used Pegas 2/0 and 0 spiral blades. Approximate size is 11X14. It was a fun project and thanks to Grampa for the pattern.1 point

Just wanted to put a couple of these on that I did today. Want to give a big shout out to Don in Brookline for taking the time to work on these for me. He did seven patterns for me for all mr grandkids. I have five more to do. Once I cut them all out I will sand them with my mop sander attached to my drill. My granddaughter is going to paint them all there favorite colors. Thank God I don’t have to do that. Lol. These are 9 1/2 x 7. Thanks again Don.1 point

I do agree that a refurb with no warranty should have a lower price but that isn't what I meant by $200 cheaper.. the original price for a "new saw" is $940.. the refurb is $748 almost $200 cheaper than a new saw.1 point

I've thought about trying it a few times now.. I'd just be mad if I went out to eat and didn't get my satisfaction of it being the real whopper, LOL1 point

Great job on those! My grandkids have discovered The Mandalorian. My 5 year old granddaughter cried when baby Yoda ate the frog eggs. I hadn't heard of Slim Dusty so I pulled up a couple of songs on Youtube. I like him a lot. That'll give me a new one to listen to in the shop. Thanks.1 point

I love the fret patterns more than any other type patterns i have cut. I am always been in a hurry to finish my project so my poorest part is one of the most important parts. That being the finishing. I am just this years realizing what a big mistake that has been. Now I am trying to learn more about the finishing process. It is something I should have paid attention to from the beginning. Dick heppnerguy1 point -

Fun Days - Scroll Saw Challenge
danny reacted to john nelson for a topic
HERE IS MY, FUN DAYS SCROLL SAW CHALLENGE FOR AUGUST........................ I have found scrollers are very serious about scrolling. Sometimes you have to lighten up and make a few FUN, silly projects. Pigs really can fly you know! There is NO painting, except for the edges, in doing this project. Art work for this project was done on a sheet of paper using COP/C dual-tip, alcohol base markers. A copy of the artwork was made, cut out and glued to the wood. A light clear top coat was added. It is almost impossible to see that the art work was glued on. DID YOU SMILE? JAN1 point -

heppnerguy reacted to John Smith for a topic
thanks for the kind words - I'm not really a scroller "enthusiast", per se. I like to make dimensional signs and have always used the band saw, routers, or Roto-Zip to cut the elements out then do some handcarving to perk them up a bit. I'll put some of my projects in my folder later on. I work mostly with HDU (High Density Urethane). I very rarely clear-coat anything. (I'm a painter. That's what I do. I like to paint things).1 point
