    One more butterfly (new)

Some scrollers asking me where I take ideas for new patterns. Here is a good example of using different styles. I made it usual, mechanical, ornament and now floral style. New one has 3 layers, size 7 x 10 inches. Here is preview of new one and all my butterflies Butterfly pattern

    Butterflies

I recently went to visit family in Greenville, SC. While there I saw an art piece outside that was a large piece of metal with butterflies cut and the wings were raised out of the metal. I cut a vinyl record. All Steve Good Butterflies . I warmed the butterflies with my hair blower and used metal dental picks to bend and support the wings while it cooled

  5. This is the third one of these I have cut. I struggle with the detailed models/toys but I have found that I always enjoy the challenges of them when I am making them. I originally made it with no painting because I do not have the talent for doing so. After I gave it to my friend, he said it needed to be painted so it would pop on the shelf. So then that project became even more challenging then if I would have painted it before assembly. Considering that, I have to say I am about 85 percent satisfied with the end results. 9. Probably about half of my tools were bought as refurbished. I've had great luck with them. IF I was in the market for a Pegas I wouldn't be scared of no warranty because anytime I've had a tool that has failed under warranty I just fixed it myself anyway.. The one time I did have a tool repaired under warranty it was put back together wrong and didn't work right until I took it apart and corrected it anyway and I was without the tool for like 7-8 weeks so why take the fuss of them having it for weeks and messing up something else anyway.. I guess some folks get lucky with it. The lower price point I dive in thinking I may have to buy parts and do a repair just as I would with any used tool purchase, the point of buying at a low enough price that you may end up putting some money in it and hope to still have save some money off original cost. A new motor is probably the most expensive part.. I'm guessing about $300 for one.. don't hear of a lot of motor issues with them but it does happen. IF I were buying a new Pegas I'd go with that refub and chance it that I'm saving $180 or whatever it is.. I've had my Excalibur apart several times.. not a lot to these saws in my opinion other than the electronics can be pricey but easy to change. My issue with the no warranty is if it's failed to be checked out good and I get a some that don't work at all.. I take the no warranty as in not returnable.. so if I was to buy it and right off the bat out of the box it don't work.. then what? I feel like they should have a short warrantee period and stand behind the product at least for a 30 day period. If it's not going to be stood behind at all then it should be sold as used and at a used price.. like.. $400 - 600 ish at most.. According to Bearwood's email back to me if it just had a scratch or a stripped bolt that was corrected.. why won't they stand behind the product just the same as a new one?

  11. Off topic slightly. I've had a few saws. When I 1st found forums regarding scroll sawing, the go to saw was the Dewalt. I lusted after one, but none in Oz. after a few years I came across Dewalt Factory reconditioned tools. and I forked over the cash. got it landed at home cheaper than the US retail price and it's still going after 15+ years. Some times you do hit a boundary.

    Door Hanger

I knocked this little project out this week doing a little cutting before work. It is a modified Steve Good pattern made from 1/4 Birch ply stained with Minwax Natural stain and the backer is 1/4 underlayment material stained Minwax Espresso. I will probably tape a white cardboard piece behind the mountains to give them the snowcap look. It was cut using Pegas #2/0 R MGT blades. The dragonfly just happened to be checking out the piece when I took the photo.

  16. Thanks for all the answers to my topic. I forget that where I live we don't have to separate the todo list into summer and winter projects. I was mostly worried that all the violent weather may have adversely effected the lives of those in the storm states. Glad to hear that nobody was in peril.

  21. Summers usually slow way down....but it has been extra quiet this summer. Probably everybody anxious to get out of the house. Toward the end of the month, we'll see a ramp up of traffic as we start heading into fall and the holidays.

  22. HERE IS MY, FUN DAYS SCROLL SAW CHALLENGE FOR AUGUST........................ I have found scrollers are very serious about scrolling. Sometimes you have to lighten up and make a few FUN, silly projects. Pigs really can fly you know! There is NO painting, except for the edges, in doing this project. Art work for this project was done on a sheet of paper using COP/C dual-tip, alcohol base markers. A copy of the artwork was made, cut out and glued to the wood. A light clear top coat was added. It is almost impossible to see that the art work was glued on. DID YOU SMILE? JAN

  23. Earlier today I was checking out Bearwood site for some specialty dowel rods and thought I'd snoop around the site.. They're offering refurbish Pegas saws? about $200 ( if I remember right ) cheaper.. think it said no warranty though so what kind of refurb is that? Most other refurbs I've bought either come with the same or at least came with a short warranty period.. Thought they stood by their products better than that.. LOL. I kind of think maybe they're not refurbished by the manufacture the way they have that warrantee bit written up.. https://www.bearwood.com/product8099.html

Thanks Charlie, I went to many Slim Dusty concerts, most of them in Country Town Halls and they were the best. After the show He would come back on stage and spend hours just chatting and signing autographs. Mt Eldest son was about 8 when I took him to one and Slim asked for him to be passed up on the stage, sat him on his knee and signed a photo for him. He still has it, pride of place. "The Pub with No Beer" was his 1st big hit and it probably still holds some records in Oz. "Lights on the Hill" is one of my many favourites.

My son and daughter, actually my wife too.. tried that ( I think it's called ) impossible burger from Burger King.. they said you really couldn't tell that it wasn't a regular Whopper.. I've thought about trying it a few times now.. I'd just be mad if I went out to eat and didn't get my satisfaction of it being the real whopper, LOL

  44. Great garden pics. I'm an avid gardener as well, but in Florida summer is the death on veggie gardens with the heat and humidity. Two measly cucumbers, a few lima beans and a ton of black eye peas and peppers of various kinds which are now looking sickly. But I got the tomato seedlings started to plant in September and ready to start the lettuces and other cool weather crops fairly soon. Actually doing some cutting but in half hour spurts before the heat takes me back into air conditioned splendor.
