  1. George Clooney as Everett ; John Turturro as Pete Hogwallop ; Tim Blake Nelson asDelmar ----From, "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" I wanted to do a cutting of this and while looking for a good picture to start with I ran across a black and white image made for printing tee shirts and such. I bought the file and was able to make it scrollable with a little editing. 1/2" oak about 8" X 10"

  4. In today's episode of "Why Does Scott Take 110 Breeds of Dog to Every Event?"... Yesterday I sold 13 puzzles and 4 leash holders. Of the 13 puzzles, 9 of them were dogs, and 4 of them were the "less popular breeds" but because I had them on hand, they were virtually a guaranteed sale as dog owners go crazy when you have their unusual breed as they never see them anywhere else. Some weeks I may not sell any oddballs, but over the course of a season it adds up to dozens of extra sales. Pointer Chessie Ridgeback Cattledog And I got asked for one I didn't have (which is rare) but next week I'll have 111 breeds with me when I add the Keeshond to my herd.

  5. Hopefully they are completed to somebody,s specs, lol. They were great fun watching them come together these past few days. I need the room as there is no place to set a cup of copy on, unless it's on the scroll saw. It's always waiting for something to reside on it!!!

    More birdhouses

This has been an off and on project for a while. Can't get anything but poplar in square stock locally, so I gave a few of these a baptism in various stains I had on hand. The birds are not meant to be copies of actual species, but rather inspirations. Some are just because I like the color. I just paint them as a way to pass time and keep my eyes and hands busy. Patterns from the talented Diana Thompson, who I hope might occasionally look at scrollsaw sites even though she has closed up shop.

Been there, done that, John. I keep a bottle of super glue handy in case I find a piece that is weak or breaks out. If it is weak, I'll put a drop of super glue in the weak area and then spread it a little with a dental probe. If it is broken out completely, I'll fit it as best I can and put a little piece of tape over it until I finish cutting or get ready to glue to the backer. The tape reminds me where I need to be careful. If it needs sanding, I'll do it by hand and sometimes hold it in place with that same dental probe while giving it a light brush with sandpaper. However, if you REALLY need firewood.....

  11. Most of us can repair a scroll saw, so it would be a good deal if the parts were free.

    Cowboy to Church

This is a Grampa pattern I finished this weekend. Double stack Oak and Maple 1/4 ply with 1/4 pine ply backer. The Maple piece was stained with Minwax Colonial Pine as well as the Maple frame. The Oak piece was stained with Minwax Natural and the Oak frame was stained with Minwax Red Oak. Both were sprayed with 5 coats of clear gloss and lightly sanded between coats. I used Pegas 2/0 and 0 spiral blades. Approximate size is 11X14. It was a fun project and thanks to Grampa for the pattern.

    Mandalorian +++

I have just finished cutting the Mandalorian pattern by Helder Botas and have added another of his patterns (shrunk) of "the Child) in the top right cnr. Cut from 4mm Hoop Pine Ply using #3 FDUR and #2FD New Spirals. One of the Mandalorian pics has glitter applied to the backer. It is hard to photograph so I've posted a few of it to give the idea. You may have click on the pics to enlarge them so as to see the glitter. I think it adds another dimension which I like. The others are of Slim Dusty, I have cut him many times before, however this time I used a thinner frame and also matted one. Mando 370 x 310mm, Slim 300 x 225mm

    Zebra Mosaic

About 175 pieces of wenge and aspen. I really don't consider it intarsia because every piece is the same height and very little shaping.

    Stagecoach

This is the Jim Blume stagecoach I've been working on. The darker one is 1/4 Oak ply and the lighter one is 1/4 Birch ply They were cut by stacking and using Pegas 2/0 spiral blades. I lost count on the number of blades. My upper arm does not lift and the pieces are so large I would inevitably bend the blade when trying to feed them which eventually caused them to break. The Oak was finished with Minwax Colonial Pine stain while the Birch was finished with Minwax Natural stain. Both have a 1/4 Birch ply backer painted black. Each also has six coats of clear with light sanding with 600 grit between coats. Both frames are pre-made framing material. The darker of the two originally had a rough gray finish. I gave it a light sanding and then covered it with Minwax Espresso stain. I then gave it 2 coats of clear. The lighter one is Maple stained with Minwax Natural and also has two coats of clear. Both frames have shim splines in the corners to add strength. Total time including the frames I have about 40 hours in these pieces but I feel they were worth every minute. Thanks again to Jim Blume for a fantastic pattern! By the way, the reason the Oak piece is facing the opposite direction is because I messed up when I stacked them and put the finish side face down rather than face up.

I'm trying to rescue my latest project because something similar happened to me. I hate using BB because of it's fragility. I was trying to rout the edges of a tissue box that I made and went too deep too fast. Shredded the edges. Now I have to remove all the scrolled side panels and replace them. Never say die?

  22. I'm amazed they offer a 2 year on a new saw but nothing on the refurb.. I think I'd stay away from it. The way it's worded to me is "out of warranty" meaning older than 2 years since it was sold? I'm not sure but I feel it is a bit pricey if it's "out of warranty" and they don't want to stand behind the product that had been repaired, even if it was just a 30 30 - 60 days etc..

Sorry that happen but it does. I stack cut this picture of a moose in two 1/8" thick pieces. When I completed them, I noticed I had not gotten the pattern centered on the perfectly. So I took one to my table saw and decided I would carefully cut the wood to line up with picture. The minute the saw blade touched the wood the picture blew up in so many tiny pieces, I felt I was getting rained on... Lucky I didn't have wood shrapnel wounds...

  42. A good friend of mine is a die hard fan. Each October, he starts planning the parade and the party for the next Stanley Cup finals. By January, he is down to when the Liefs make the playoffs. We joke all the time about when the Leafs are going to win another Championship. I made this with a white board for the year. If they ever do, he can whip out the year and the pen is there. I just hope the pen has not dried out by then.

  45. Made a clock of the car I'm building.. BUT, now that I made it and the local performance shop owner that specializes in these cars is really into these little Chevy Cobalt SS Supercharged cars and has been consulting me a little on my build.. well I may just give it to him since he has helped steer me in the direction I'm going with my street / track car and has saved me a ton of money.. he could have sold me a lot of parts I really didn't need, LOL Anyway, cut from Cherry using a FD-UR #5 balde.

  47. We are blessed to have our 13 year old grand daughter spend a week with us. I am in heaven when she asks to spend time with me in my shop learning a new scrolling technique. She did just about everything herself on this Spiderman box. She is definitely a perfectionist.
