    First cut

Well I put my parts on my saw this morning and decided to try it out. I wanted to try something simple as this was my first time using a scroll saw. Knocked up this pattern in inkspace with a font I liked taped it up and went at it! Next time I'll make the outline in grey and thinner as the blade was hard to see in the black. I mostly kept to the line (but they are only a suggestion right) but the s has a few flatspots on it ( I'm presuming I'm turning without feeding?) Kind of embarrassing after seeing what you guys turn out but realize we all have to start somewhere. Thanks for all the positive input on my posts so far ( I know the new guy can be anoying ) and any constructive criticism is appreciated if it's going to improve my work, it needs it Thanks for looking !

    Another Man In Black

This makes 4 Johnny portraits on my wall, but the way I see it, a man can never have too much Cash. I cut it in 1/4” red oak with a black stained oak backer. It is about 7 1/2” by 8 1/2” which was a mistake. I like the size of it but the pattern I made would be much better suited for a larger portrait. I had to leave out a lot of detail. Let me know if you’d like a copy of the pattern.

I made the pattern for this from a photo that I found online. It took about 16 hours to cut. I chose this because my first "car" was a 1935 Ford pick-up.

  10. This is the third one of these I have cut. I struggle with the detailed models/toys but I have found that I always enjoy the challenges of them when I am making them. I originally made it with no painting because I do not have the talent for doing so. After I gave it to my friend, he said it needed to be painted so it would pop on the shelf. So then that project became even more challenging then if I would have painted it before assembly. Considering that, I have to say I am about 85 percent satisfied with the end results. She listens earnestly to what's being said and responds with body language that is so cute to see.crap oak flooring waste that had voids in it I wasn,t expecting. Dollar 25 store acryilic paint that is so thin and missing pigment I found that the only way to paint with it is flood it on and I used the other end of the paint brush to apply it. Thanks for looking!!! 10" x 4"

    Brandi Carlile

I imagine Brandi will be someone many aren't familiar with. My son introduces me to a lot of good music that I would miss without him. He took me to a Brandi concert several years ago and I've been a fan since then. For those not familiar with United States currency, the coin in the upper left is a wheat penny. They were discontinued in 1958 but you'll still find one in your change from time to time. If you'd like to know why I included it, check out the video below.

After the football (or soccer to you guys) tomorrow morning I'm going to dress the new bolts that came today and go easier on tightening and give it another go

Let me say that to cut letters as the first thing you cut using a scroll saw you have a great future ahead of you! Cutting letters or words for most scrollers is the most difficult! You have nothing to be embarrassed about, you did a fine job on the first cut! As others have said keep that first cut in a safe place and go back and look at it in a years time! You will be amazed! A pretty good effort for a first go. My 1st attempt, you'd of been surprised to know I followed a line Definitely worth getting a quality glass and light. I purchased mine many years ago from the WA Blind Institute. I don't usually wear my glasses when using the magnifier, I find that a very low power set of readers are all I need. If I wear my normal glasses It all goes to mud. Try Cutting on a red line, I always convert my patterns to Red line with a very light grey, blue or green infill. Keep on Keeping On

Looks great. I put my light pretty far to the side to see the line better. That way the shadow of the blade doesnt work against me. I use a floor lamp with a bendy neck thing i got at walmart. Also a super bright light bulb.

I think it' great. I'd struggle to cut anything that thick now let alone when I first started. Well Done. !! As others have said, perhaps changing your patterns to a grey background with red lines would help, I do this to all my patterns as my old eyes lose the blade with black lines.

Thanks for the kind words but I'm gonna have to work on some of those curves they are rough I'm pretty familiar with SVGs as I have to make my older kids custom tee shirts and vinyl stickers for their vehicles. The stuff they want usally is custom so I have to design them too.

    Breaking Down Costs

Many folks that are retired now worked for a company that valued them, gave out some sort of pension gave out some health insurance that you didn't have to pay a big chunk of your earnings to have that insurance.. Back when people wanted to work and be proud of what job they had and did.. The employer didn't consider you as a number and did their best to keep you with them and gave you a sense of stability that you'll be working next week, month, year etc.. IF you have to fend for yourself no matter what, you might as well do all of it on your own.. Times have changed a great deal.. maybe even before your times but I can say it was way better to work for someone 30-40 years ago than it is now.. People talk about how the young folks don't want to work and shortage of workers everywhere.. ALL the young folks I know don't want to work for greedy corporations, especially when these young kids have all the opportunities with just doing stupid YouTube videos and can make more money.. a young man about 6-8 years old building things out of legos on YouTube makes about $10,000 a month.. you suppose he's going to happily take a pay cut and go work for a sweatshop making $15 -20 an hour? People are fooling themselves about how this next generation is lazy and don't want to work.. it's more that they know what they can do and many are doing it online.. These kids are taking over Hollywood stars just being themselves on YouTube ,TikTok and other sights.. and they don't have managers and all the middle men taking the majority of their income either.. they get famous and "companies" want to sponsor them so these kids get cool clothing and whatever else free just to show it on their videos.. which brings me to this.. My son likes to ride BMX bicycles and do stunts etc.. he shows his riding etc. on instagram.. just short 30sec. - 1 min. clips of him doing jumps and stunts.. He has had companies offer hats, shoes, and you name it.. for free if he'll wear this stuff doing his stunts.. He's not trying to get popular or to start a entertainment gig at all.. he was doing these videos etc. just showing friends and followers his BMX tricks.. this stuff here is how "easy" it is right now for many of these young kids to just do what they like to do and make money.. yet you get grilled in a interview for a job that you really don't want anyway.. WHY go work when these opportunities are there to just play? especially when a real jobs pay sucks and very little if any recognition for the job from your boss when you can be recognized by a lot of folks for just playing and doing what you like / want.. Employers are going to have to step up their game, kids don't want their crappy $5000 - 10,000 sign on bonuses.. etc.. and then be treated as just another worker..

    Hello from Illinois

Hi, thanks for the add! I have been woodworking for 30 years and for the past few years have fancied giving scrolling a try but have never found the time. Well times change and by chance I stumbled upon a old scrollsaw but in surprisingly good condition. It's a RBI 226vs ( square bottom blade holder and a DC motor manufactured by Dayton, which from what I've read is a Ultra made between 1994-1996) it was covered in a layer of dust. I parted with $100 and took it home and gave it a thorough clean and a coat of wax, oiled the rear cam and tested it out. It runs quietly with no vibration. I've ordered the blower lockline kit for it and some new knobs as the upper blade holder knob is cracked. Got about $150 in it now and some time, I feel like this could be a good start to a new hobby! Now I just have to practice lol

  35. Just finished this Russ Beard pattern, I have some thoughts as to how I want to make the framing etc. But for now the hard work has been done. cut on a modified Wen Scroll Saw with my own design pin less blade adaptor and blade holder, the entire pattern was cut using a Niqua #0 blades.

  36. In today's episode of "Why Does Scott Take 110 Breeds of Dog to Every Event?"... Yesterday I sold 13 puzzles and 4 leash holders. Of the 13 puzzles, 9 of them were dogs, and 4 of them were the "less popular breeds" but because I had them on hand, they were virtually a guaranteed sale as dog owners go crazy when you have their unusual breed as they never see them anywhere else. Some weeks I may not sell any oddballs, but over the course of a season it adds up to dozens of extra sales. Pointer Chessie Ridgeback Cattledog And I got asked for one I didn't have (which is rare) but next week I'll have 111 breeds with me when I add the Keeshond to my herd.

    Table hight

well I have only had it about 10 days. My butt needs to re-adjust. It is harder that the wore out chair. This version is a quick adjust. Meaning you stand up to remove the weight off the lever. Then you can just pull the chair up. This version is 3 inches higher than the screw up/down chair. Also note this version of the chair does NOT swivel. The whole chair rotates on wheels. The screw up/Down version swivels. You can choose color variations of wheels , material, and steel. After some more time I will re-post and say yea or nea. what ever i am stuck with it. I might have to limit sit time to about 90 mintes. I put this chair on a floor mat so it does not roll out around. The wheels do roll really easy.

  44. If you or anyone cannot solder in a new one Seyco sells a replacement with the cord and plug in on it so it's just plug and play. But that said you'll need to take more of the saw apart to access the plug end of it to the circuit board.
