    Barrel Racer

I was commissioned to do a barrel racer for a young lady that won the championship last year. Both pieces are cut on 1/4 Ply Oak with a 1/4 ply Birch backer. The cut piece is stained with Minwax natural, and the backer is stained with Minwax Espresso. The wood frame is stained with Minwax Colonial Pine and the gold frame is pre-fab framing material. Both frames are strengthened with splines in the corners. The pattern, by Julie Popowicz, was altered slightly per request of the customer. The beer logo was removed from the barrel.

I made this many years ago. The pattern was from Scrolleronline (I think). It was damaged a few years ago and I hope to make another one this fall/winter.

Well I did once but it wasn't much scrolling.. I built a morris chair. The wide panels in the sides the chair and foot stool were blank.. I added the sail boat on the chair and the light house on footstool... That was back when I had my first scroll saw.. A Craftsman, that I had to get down on my knees to mount the blade in the bottom clamp, so it was back when I did very little scrolling..

    Sanding mops

I prefer the 2" x 7". I mostly use the 180 grit... It produces aroung a 220 grit finish. https://www.woodworkingshop.com/search/?search_query=sand mop. OOOPss! Stop that is Mac Mops. Sanding mops at the same place..

I would have done the same thing, It should not cost that much to ship a couple of books. Sounds like a bit of pocket padding to me.

I made the pattern for this from a photo that I found online. It took about 16 hours to cut. I chose this because my first "car" was a 1935 Ford pick-up.

    First cut

Well I put my parts on my saw this morning and decided to try it out. I wanted to try something simple as this was my first time using a scroll saw. Knocked up this pattern in inkspace with a font I liked taped it up and went at it! Next time I'll make the outline in grey and thinner as the blade was hard to see in the black. I mostly kept to the line (but they are only a suggestion right) but the s has a few flatspots on it ( I'm presuming I'm turning without feeding?) Kind of embarrassing after seeing what you guys turn out but realize we all have to start somewhere. Thanks for all the positive input on my posts so far ( I know the new guy can be anoying ) and any constructive criticism is appreciated if it's going to improve my work, it needs it Thanks for looking !

Well I am well and truly gobsmacked. I received an email from Fox Chapel about their new scrolling books and decided I wanted them for my birthday. So I put 2 in the cart and went to the checkout. Now the books only came to $32 - $33 US BUT the postage was $148.50US. They only offered Express. I soon cancelled the order. Marg

  16. Shipping and exchange rates make it very expensive to order from them directly. If you have the ISBN number, you may be able to go to a local bookseller and see if they can order it in. I had wanted the 20 Minute Puzzle book, but didn't want to pay exchange/shipping. Happened to be in my local bookstore and there it was. It is now in my hands and off their shelf.

  18. Hey everyone! In this Scroll Saw Project Video I make a neat little rustic barn planter that uses something every true southern has in their house, a mason jar! This Steve Good Design uses 3/4 inch and 1/4 inch material. I like doing a project like this every now and then to show that not all scroll saw projects need to be overly complicated. Hope you all like the video! #ArtisanPirate

    Sanding mops

I'd go along with Paul. I have both, the Mac Mops and Sanding mops, but find the Mac Mops last a lot longer and do a great job. I use a 180g most of the time, but also have a 240g which I use to soften the face of portrait cuts.

    Furniture

I'm going to assume that there are members that do other types of woodwork such as furniture building. Do any of you combine your skills and build scrollsaw designs into aprons, table tops and panels. I'm definitely going to try this when I've developed my skills enough to do passable work.

    1/8" Baltic Birch

My local supplier was out of 1/8" Baltic Birch. I use several 12 x 12 pieces for plaques. Received these today. Quality is pretty good. https://www.etsy.com/listing/1246453126/3mm-18-x-12-x12-baltic-birch-22-pack-or?

    First cut

Well after a busy weekend I finally got free time to try another cut, I feel like I went backwards on this one .... Rushing maybe? Maybe a good sanding will help... Thinking of giving it a coat of paint if it tidies up ok. I guess that this will wrap up this thread and I'll put in some hours practicing and making fire wood lol.

Can anyone please recommend a sanding mop and a link to it if possible? I know you can make these but I've got such a big to do list that it would be nice to just have one without adding to it.

I would called Fox Chapels customer service. When I bought the last CD's they were supposed to ship via USPS but instead shipped via UPS. When I specifically asked if USPS ie postal service. It arrived at the door with a bill almost as much as the CD's . Customer service quickly offered a refund but I took it in a 2 year subscription. Their customer service is top notch.

    Hi from Colorado

Just want to say thank you for your kind and helpful comments welcoming me to the scroll saw village. I have been a member of the community for almost a year but only signed in as a newbie a few weeks ago. Because of your welcoming and reading your comments I committed myself to explore what is available. Boy, am i surprised. Remember when we were hooked on rock, then the classics. With technology advancements we became hooked on you tube. For the past 8 years I been hooked on scrolling, now with your encouragement I am now hooked on scroll saw village. When I get into the general scroll sawing forum I can't stop reading, and I don't like to read. I have picked up to many tips. I am looking forward becoming a contributor to the village. Soon I will be asking about compound sawing and posting pictures of some of my work. Again, my sincere thanks welcoming me into your community. Jerry Walters

  44. In today's episode of "Why Does Scott Take 110 Breeds of Dog to Every Event?"... Yesterday I sold 13 puzzles and 4 leash holders. Of the 13 puzzles, 9 of them were dogs, and 4 of them were the "less popular breeds" but because I had them on hand, they were virtually a guaranteed sale as dog owners go crazy when you have their unusual breed as they never see them anywhere else. Some weeks I may not sell any oddballs, but over the course of a season it adds up to dozens of extra sales. Pointer Chessie Ridgeback Cattledog And I got asked for one I didn't have (which is rare) but next week I'll have 111 breeds with me when I add the Keeshond to my herd.
