    A big Thank You.

I would like to say a big thankyou to Don and Wayne for making two lovely patterns for me. I sent both patterns to my girlfriend and she chose the one she liked to remember the passing of her sister. Attached below is a picture of the finished Item. Thank you both again for the patterns. My 1st Portrait

I found a CD with some photos on it in drawer on my computer desk. It had this gem. My 1st attempt at making a pattern and cutting it. I believe I cut it on a GMC saw. (A cheap, very cheap, generic piece of ??? ) cut in 2006 It is a picture of a couple of friend's wedding. I was pleased with it and they liked it, but I wince now

    the Iron Outlaw

Not really bragging I have posted Ned before, but I have just finished these 2 They are 480mm x 350mm, cut from 4mm Hoop Pine Ply, framed with 42 x 19 mm Radiata Pine. One stained Jarrah, the other Rosewood. Finished with 3 coats of clear gloss lacquer. I used #3 FDUR and FD new spirals #1. the Wording is quite famous in Australia. It is reputed to be Ned's last words on the scaffold. "So it has come to this, such is life" https://www.ironoutlaw.com/

    Trivet

A small piece of maple was given to me as a gift, first pic. I re-sawed off a 1/2" slice and cut this. The pattern I just did a screen capture off the internet and printed. This is about 4.5" square. Finished with Minwax pre stain conditioner, Minwax Golden Oak stain, and a couple of coats Minwax Tung Oil mixed with Waterlox varnish (16:1). A close examination shows how inconsistent my scolling is. Sometimes I think the grain of the wood pulls the cut away from the pattern or maybe my 'shakes' are more problematic than I know? Anyway thanks for looking.

    Dragonflies

Super happy with how these turned out. Alex Fox pattern that I shrank to 80%. Left the backer piece off. Finished with Tung Oil. Shadow box frames were free and missing the backer. Used foam core as the backer. The backer on the dragonfly is rainbow scrapbooking paper (from my mom's stock). The boarder is another type of scrapbooking paper. One is pale green and the other is a blue. Took the photos outside so, unfortunately, the reflection is in the way.

    Sports frames

Something new I am trying. (This is why I needed spray glue) Starting local because it is easier to find the fabric. Team fabric backers on upcycled (Goodwill frames) with hardwood logos. Trying to judge a fair price since I always price too low. Comments welcome.

    It was a struggle

I purchased this pattern from Charles Hand and was unable to receive it in a download. I contacted him and he worked with me on trying to get it to me for several days. After several ideas, I finally thought to have him try to send me the pattern through another of my web pages and I finally got it today. I had to work hard to get the layers to their close sizes as I was only able to get the pattern as screen shots before today, and had to try and get as close a match to the correct sizes by printing and changes until I was OK and cut it. It is 8 layers and one I could not quite understand what the size was supposed to be so I left that one out of this project. Again I tried to paint it to help bring out the layers better. I will have to cut this again in the future and get it all correct next time. Dick heppnerguy

@wombatie Marg, I needed some more Googly eyes for my puzzles. Lots from China, that take a month (Probably 2) or more to get here. I found a place in Perth "Teachers Supplies" A hundred eyes $13.00 Not great but it'll do, until they add postage $9.95 from Perth to Kalgoorlie. They'll fit in an envelope and cost $1.20. A bit more searching and I found some on Ebay $12.00 no postage and here within a fortnight. ( from the Eastern States)

Sorry I have been away for a few days. I received an email from Fox Chapel saying they have passed on my email to the IT department and they will get back to me, I am not holding my breath. I would have more luck finding gold on the Victorian gold fields than finding a scroll saw pattern book in a book store or library here in Victoria but I will try Australia Amazon. Marg

  18. i was the one who made the clamps several years ago. they work well. i made my own inserts from 0-1 drill rod that i turned on my metal lathe. i wish Bushton manufacturing would make these for the saws they sell. i made a set for a member on here, but he no longer has the hawk scroll saw. the clamps worked really well at holding small blades. if i have time in the next day or so i will see about posting a picture of the clamps i made.

  19. Thanks all, some really good ideas ! Once again I knew you would all come through! @kmmcrafts This will be our first ever themed event. We continue to do our Saturday events and have pretty much stopped our Sunday events - too much work. We do also get invited to quite a few events now since our products are very unique to the area. Some are themed, some are more of the annual type which we have accepted now quite a few times including donating to various charities when they request items for an auction. We really like the auctions and get a tremendous amount of free marketing and a lot of word of mouth business. The annual events are your typical end of year, pre Christmas, etc. and we do incredible at these. This Pirate/Ren fair type themed event is an annual event that supposedly brings in over 15k visitors over 3 days which includes a big children's parade at the beginning. We have been hedging on doing it but they are going so far out of their way to accommodate us it is hard to say no LOL. They have generously removed setup and breakdown rules, refund rules as well as allowed us to have our trailer where we need. Another interesting aspect of this particular event is that there are only going to be 15 craft and food vendors. We do very well when there are limited vendors at events! Also, the company that puts this on, does several other large events during the year and we would like them to ask us to these as well. Some of their events have seen well over 50k visitors over a weekend!

    Dust collection

When I run my dust, I run 2 main units: an overhead for air born particles and my main dust collector (the HF 2 HP). I do NOT start and stop either when I am cutting. I start them, do my cutting which usually lasts a few hours then shut them down and move on to one of the next phases or other projects. I do similar with my shop vacs that are connected to my table saw and sanding stations - I start them when I start the cutting or sanding projects and they stay on until I'm done cutting. I was told on another woodworking as well as an electricians forum (and believe to be true based on my experience with other motors) that starting and stopping them constantly decreases the life of the motor. The reason being the sudden start of a motor produces a significant impact to the motor when it starts similar to what happens when you start a car engine I know from experience computers suffer the same way and so I haven't turned off any of my computers for years (I restart them periodically but never shut them down unless on vacation). Works for me so that's how I run them

  40. I personally think you would do well with just putting out anything that you normally sell.. or is that what you do at these events, but have a few themed things as well? Sorry I don't do vendor events so I don't know.. Having went to one of these as a spectator and many others that probably go that have many other interest I would think you'd sell most anything at one.. Do you guys do well at these type of themed events, I get invites all the time from etsy where people looking for vendors, I always figured they must not be a very good event if they have to reach out to vendors on etsy, LOL Just last night I was invited to the Detroit Auto Sema show as a vendor, where they show concept cars and custom built cars etc. It's a once a year thing and absolutely huge event here in Michigan.. I don't do shows and am in no way interested in doing this large of a show for my first one, LOL I don't know how many people go through this show but it's two weeks long, first week is only for car manufactures, dealers, and news crews etc.. then the next week open to the public. If anyone is interested I'll see if I can pass the info onto you, LOL

  41. Wooden doubloons! If you have or have access to a laser you could engrave something that represents the event. If not, then maybe cut something in the center that would go along with the theme.

  44. I have a sample pack of Keda Dy Stain Powder that you add to water. I have tried and it does not work for my projects. the colour creeps in with the end grain. See the frogs. It looks okay but it took a few days before the pieces went back together due to the swelling. The smiley face and candle holder are pine and it comes out red okay. I just tried a piece of poplar. Soaked about 10 minutes and then let dry for another 10. You get some stain creeping. I am not sure this is the colour you are looking for but you can add mix the colours to get darker or lighter. If you are going to go this way I would suggest you test first.

I would called Fox Chapels customer service. When I bought the last CD's they were supposed to ship via USPS but instead shipped via UPS. When I specifically asked if USPS ie postal service. It arrived at the door with a bill almost as much as the CD's . Customer service quickly offered a refund but I took it in a 2 year subscription. Their customer service is top notch.

  50. Also, if you clean the ends of your blades with mineral spirits to remove any oil and rub them with 220 sandpaper just enough to rough them up, you won't need to tighten so hard. I think it might have been @heppnerguy who put me onto that idea and it has worked well. Whenever I open a new dozen pack of blades I take a few minutes and do this.
