    Jesus and Lamb

This is a Jim Blume pattern I finished this weekend. Both are finished the same except one is Birch and the other is Oak finished with Minwax Natural stain. Both are 1/4 inch with 1/4 Pine ply backer painted black. The frames are pre-fab Oak framing material stained with Minwax Colonial Pine. I finished with 4-coats of clear spray lacquer with light sanding with 600 grit between coats. I used Pegas #2/0 and 0/0 spiral blades. The size without the frame and including the backer is 11 1/2 X 14. A lot of fun to cut and surprisingly, it went pretty fast. Hope you enjoy.

    Trivet

A small piece of maple was given to me as a gift, first pic. I re-sawed off a 1/2" slice and cut this. The pattern I just did a screen capture off the internet and printed. This is about 4.5" square. Finished with Minwax pre stain conditioner, Minwax Golden Oak stain, and a couple of coats Minwax Tung Oil mixed with Waterlox varnish (16:1). A close examination shows how inconsistent my scolling is. Sometimes I think the grain of the wood pulls the cut away from the pattern or maybe my 'shakes' are more problematic than I know? Anyway thanks for looking.

Not really bragging I have posted Ned before, but I have just finished these 2 They are 480mm x 350mm, cut from 4mm Hoop Pine Ply, framed with 42 x 19 mm Radiata Pine. One stained Jarrah, the other Rosewood. Finished with 3 coats of clear gloss lacquer. I used #3 FDUR and FD new spirals #1. the Wording is quite famous in Australia. It is reputed to be Ned's last words on the scaffold. "So it has come to this, such is life" https://www.ironoutlaw.com/

  7. Kevin, awesome work as always. Now, being famous alone will not pay the bills you need to learn you need to charge folks for your fine work and they need to learn they need to pay you for it. Even if they make a “donation”, that is better then no pay at all. Take care of yourself.

    My Latest

Well here s my Little Haunted House. It is a pattern from an old Quilt I found yrs back. With a little change here and there I made it with wood. As you can see the backdoor is open to a cone incense, the smoke will come out of the Chimney. Some will anyway. The Ghost Glow in the dark as does the skeleton on the back window and the eyes in the other windows. So Happy Halloween!!!

  10. I have a Nephew that is celebrating his Retirement next weekend after 30 Years of Service. So I wanted to make him a "Special" gift. Well, I chose an Eagle pattern Janevski for that gift. I somehow managed to accidentally reduce the size from 11" X 14" down to 6 3/4 X 9" which mad the cutting a bit more difficult to do, but I love the way it turned out. The size fit a beautiful scrap of Aromatic Cedar Plywood that I have been saving for quite a few years. I just got done gluing the layers together. Everyone that has seen it absolutely Love it, so I am sure that my nephew will do the same! Thanks Janevski for the Awesome idea for the gift! Dick

    Dragonflies

Super happy with how these turned out. Alex Fox pattern that I shrank to 80%. Left the backer piece off. Finished with Tung Oil. Shadow box frames were free and missing the backer. Used foam core as the backer. The backer on the dragonfly is rainbow scrapbooking paper (from my mom's stock). The boarder is another type of scrapbooking paper. One is pale green and the other is a blue. Took the photos outside so, unfortunately, the reflection is in the way.

  13. Go to Woodenteddybear.com and find the blade you have and then at the bottom of the page they have the information on the blade and the min size drill bit to use. Hope that helps

    My 1st Portrait

I found a CD with some photos on it in drawer on my computer desk. It had this gem. My 1st attempt at making a pattern and cutting it. I believe I cut it on a GMC saw. (A cheap, very cheap, generic piece of ??? ) cut in 2006 It is a picture of a couple of friend's wedding. I was pleased with it and they liked it, but I wince now

    the Iron Outlaw

I saw where he said unfair treatment from lawmen drove him to crime. And I sure wasn't knocking the cutting because he was an outlaw. If I had to take down all my portraits of people with skeletons in their closet there wouldn't be many left. My self portrait would have to come down for sure.

Very little difference between the troopers and Bushrangers back then. Ned had some redeeming features. Many laws were changed after he was captured, removing some police powers and making courts more accountable.

Got some time to myself this morning put a little paint and lacquer on it after sanding. It's a little janky but my wife has already snagged it for her desk at work lol

    First cut

Well I put my parts on my saw this morning and decided to try it out. I wanted to try something simple as this was my first time using a scroll saw. Knocked up this pattern in inkspace with a font I liked taped it up and went at it! Next time I'll make the outline in grey and thinner as the blade was hard to see in the black. I mostly kept to the line (but they are only a suggestion right) but the s has a few flatspots on it ( I'm presuming I'm turning without feeding?) Kind of embarrassing after seeing what you guys turn out but realize we all have to start somewhere. Thanks for all the positive input on my posts so far ( I know the new guy can be anoying ) and any constructive criticism is appreciated if it's going to improve my work, it needs it Thanks for looking !

  21. Well I can say I'm officially not down and out . I'm getting up early now . Staying busy and enjoying what life is left. I fell in love with doing letters when I first joined SSV. BUT little did I know that all you letter guys had the computer make them for you. I had no idea it would do that.so I used the paper stencils to do my letters. Boy is that time consuming. Thanks for looking!!!

I would like to say a big thankyou to Don and Wayne for making two lovely patterns for me. I sent both patterns to my girlfriend and she chose the one she liked to remember the passing of her sister. Attached below is a picture of the finished Item. Thank you both again for the patterns. My 1st Portrait

I like it, it came out really nice. One thing I learned to watch out for is the grain in the wood. I've used BB and after I finished it I found I missed how the grain takes it away from the portrait. I look for the most grain clear piece I can find. I did one of my daughter on the tire swing and the grain of the wood ruined it.

Had to go to the Metric converter...nom 19" x 14". Nice large cutttings, very well done. Frames look great. Intersting names/species of wood you have down there. Would love to try some but not going to pay significan shipping cost just to try it out.

I'm amazed sometimes when I go back and look at a project I did years before. As we gain experience and our skills improve - our views/opinions change too. I think it looks great!

@wombatie Marg, I needed some more Googly eyes for my puzzles. Lots from China, that take a month (Probably 2) or more to get here. I found a place in Perth "Teachers Supplies" A hundred eyes $13.00 Not great but it'll do, until they add postage $9.95 from Perth to Kalgoorlie. They'll fit in an envelope and cost $1.20. A bit more searching and I found some on Ebay $12.00 no postage and here within a fortnight. ( from the Eastern States)

    Sports frames

Something new I am trying. (This is why I needed spray glue) Starting local because it is easier to find the fabric. Team fabric backers on upcycled (Goodwill frames) with hardwood logos. Trying to judge a fair price since I always price too low. Comments welcome.
