  1. So this lady at the Farmer's Market asks if I could make her a sign for her. She wanted Welcome with a fish underneath of it. So I did some old school manual (scissors and tape) and merged two of Steve Good's patterns together and emailed her a copy. She liked it, so this morning I got a good refresher in cutting 1/8" Baltic Birch and small cuts. Went slow and am happy with the results. Now to turn it over to the painter (my wife) for her to finish.

    Bumble Bee's.... :+}

    Forgot Who showed us his Bee's, but from the First Look I knew I just had to spend some time cutting, painting and adding the Fancy Eyes. Like the way these came out and thinking seriously of getting More Patterns of Bee's. Google Image .... Look Out.... Anyway here is a Pic. Danny :+}

    Hammering Hank

    Henry "Hank" Aaron. Played most of his career with the Atlanta Braves. 755 career homeruns. He broke Babe Ruth's record of 714 in 1974. I was 13 at the time and remember friends explaining why Babe's record was better, which they probably heard from their dad. At the time I just figured I didn't know enough about baseball to understand. Pretty sure it had a lot more to do with color than baseball. Proud I got to see him play.

  6. Welcome to the obsession hobby! Your work will get better. Save these first few cuttings. In the future you can compare what you are doing to these and see how much you have improved.

  9. I'm retiring from puzzle making. I hit a new record, and I know I'll never do it again, so I might was well retire. Just kidding... but it was an amazing, record breaking weekend. I just got home and I'm so exhausted I can't put it into words. Here's the stats and remember, THIS IS VERY UNUSUAL AND NOBODY SHOULD EXPECT ANYTHING NEAR THIS UNDER NORMAL CIRCUMSTANCES!!! 2 day event, 330 vendors, over 50,000 attendees. Lazy Daze in Cary, NC My Sales: 85 dog puzzles 36 non-dog puzzles 55 wall racks 16 stick figures Grand Total Sales - $5,745 If I had a dozen extra Greyhounds, Husky's and Shihtzu's, I'd have sold another 20 puzzles easily. I am so screwed as I have a decent 1 day event next Saturday. Good thing I took the week off from the day job this coming week.

  10. Hi All. Someone sent me an email the other day asking if my Ornament Business Kits ever go on sale because they wanted some of the older ones. Each year I publish the new business kit on November 1st and put it on sale for 50% off through Cyber Monday. Then it goes to the normal price of $20. Some folks want it earlier so they can get a jump on the Holidays, but it usually doesn't work out too well when I do it that way. So it got me thinking that maybe I can put the previous years up for sale in the middle of the year. The whole "Christmas In July" thing has come and gone (I'm a bit slow on the uptake), so I thought I'd offer it up now. So, all of the Custom Ornament Business Kits in the eBooks section is 30% OFF through September 30th! Note: These ornament business kits are meant for folks who have a working knowledge of Inkscape. You don't have to be an advanced user, but you should have the basics down. If you'd like to learn more about Inkscape, you can find my free online course here. Enjoy!

  11. Cut this Steve Good pattern ou,t once before and used wood glue which took some time with marking and being careful to not get sloppy with the glue. The kids got me a pin-nailer this past Christmas, so I tried that out and it went a lot faster. Which got me to thinking if anyone else out there used a nail gun for putting together their works?

    John Nelson Patterns

    John contacted me at the beginning of summer and sent me a big ol' stack of patterns to share with SSV members. That was a pretty amazing surprise! I've been working on them and scanning them to PDF files as I can (I'm a bit slow). It took me awhile to figure out how to get it from paper to a nice digital download. But we got there in the end. I still have a bunch to scan in, and I'll continue working on them as I can. This first batch has a lot of fun Christmas themed patterns and they use the decoupage/applique method that John wrote about in this article: I set up a special section in the eBooks area to house these patterns. A special thank you to @john nelson for providing these great patterns for us all to enjoy! Check them out when you get a chance. His patterns can be found here.

    Awesome job Charlie. I was just a bit younger then you when Hank broke the record and I remember it well too. I grew up a baseball fan as my dad like it. Thanks for sharing,

    Welcome sign with a fish

    It looks Awesome!!! I do know where your coming from, about the thickness difference in woods. I went from3/4 to 1/4. It took a little while to get use to. Now I love it. So much easier on me and my saw.

    Welcome sign with a fish

    Well done. That really came out nice. Curious, why so small for a welcome sign? And, will they be mounted back to back on a common backer?

  25. When you've put off mowing, painting, changing the oil, going outside, eating food whilst its at least warm, getting your hair cut, Even after all that you'll still feel that you need 'some much needed practice' so thats perfectly normal. Those cuttings look fine to the rest of us but you'll always know the one corner on a piece where you could have done better. Just remember, once the pattern is removed then no one else will ever be able to see anything wrong. Bob

  26. Thanks for all your responses. I have looked all over and I am not sure Craftsman does a kit like that anymore especially in Canada. ANWAYS, I THINK I HAVE IT SOLVED FOR ME. For some reason I bought a 1 1/4 nailer from Princess Auto on sale (like HF) a few years ago. It is 18 gauge but will take 3/8 brad nails. I have order nails from Amazon and they will be here tomorrow and I will test. Thanks for all your answers and the great idea.

  29. I tried to stack cut a portrait of Einstein smoking a pipe, but when I took it apart the one on the bottom was sticking his tongue out at me. Died 67 years ago and still amazing. Actually I cut one for my shop and then my daughter requested the one with his tongue out for her classroom. The patterns aren't mine. Just some images I found on Google that I tweaked a bit to make scrollable.

    Sorry Dick, I have plenty of things I work on that challenge me. I have tried some fretwork in the past but have learned I don’t enjoy doing it and I don’t have the patience for it. Maybe one day I will, but I know right now I don’t. That is one of the things I like about using a scroll saw, there are lots of things you can do of different types with it. Thanks to the Village and our friends here, including yourself who was a great encouragement to me when I first started, I have learned and tried many different types of scrolling projects over the past 6+ years. Many were ones I would never have thought of trying without the help and encouragement of everyone here. However, there is also nothing wrong in acknowledging that some are just ones we don’t like or have the patience for even if we do admire and appreciate that work done by others. My Aunt does have an Intarsia raccoon that I made for her. I have presently been challenging myself of late to learn to carve, presently learning relief carving but want to learn to do in the round carving too and I just took a class at our local store to learn turning. I hope to use the carving with some scrolling (have done a few pieces that I hope to share soon.) I want to turn and use carving with it. I would like to turn wig stands for our local cancer support group on who’s board I serve. I like to try new things all the time.
