Bass Fishing
amazingkevin and 6 others reacted to Hawk for a topic
This is a JGR pattern. I got the inspiration for the Blue background from another villager. I went looking for they're name. But can't locate it, so if anybody knows who, please let us know. Anyhow I mounted to a basswood blank (kinda appropriate I thought) and I started this a while ago so as far as I can remember the woods are Butternut, Aspen,Blue Pine and cedar(lure). Chris7 points -

Danny posted his cutting of “Elvis” on August 9,2022. He gave credit to Grandpa, but reading on, it seems this pattern may have been by someone else or maybe by more than one. I found the original negative image, before being converted to a scroll saw pattern, on-line with no name associated with it. I like Danny’s cutting and this version of Elvis, and I had need to make an “Elvis” as a gift. A local Dinner we frequent has their walls covered with Elvis and Marilyn pics and posters. I plan to give them this Elvis and a Marilyn I made a while ago. No strings attached. So here is my version of “Elvis” that is cut from 5/32” x 11” x 14” solid core Maple Ply affixed to a 1/4”BB Ply painted black backer, finished with multiple coats of Deft Clear Gloss Lacquer. The assembled panel is mounted loose in a 1 3/4” wide Pine Frame stained with Minwax Mahogany and finished with Clear Gloss Polyurethane. The EP is a copy of how he signed some of his photos. Another, totally different project that I completed nearly at the same time as “Elvis” is a cartoon image, again that I found on-line, of “Wile E Coyote” displaying a HELP sign. This project adds to my other cartoon characters like the Pink Panther and Cockerel that I made a while back. I guess I need to find a decent image of the Road Runner to add to the collection. The cut panel is a hand painted 5/32” x 11” x17” solid Core Maple Ply that is affixed to a Hand Painted 1/4” thk BB Ply backer. And as usual, the assembled panel is protected with multiple coats of Deft Clear Gloss Lacquer. The assembled panel is mounted loose in a 1 3/4” wide Pine Frame that was simply primed and painted with Glidden Gloss Black. Comments and critiques are always welcome.5 points

I don't have a lot of pictures of stuff I've made. I managed to find these of a couple things I made several years ago. Not a lot of scrolling in this piece, just the ornamental symbols on the front and the lid. This is a faith chest. I make these for our church to present to the family when a baby is baptized.4 points -

I hesitate to post these pics because most of you have already seen them. But here goes. The nut basket, votive holder and center piece are all derived from patterns by John Nelson. The 3 candle holders are from a pattern by an unknown designer. I took the original and made 3 sizes out of it. The last one is a bowl from Sue Mey.3 points -

Welcome sign with a fish
frankorona and 2 others reacted to Joe W. for a topic
So this lady at the Farmer's Market asks if I could make her a sign for her. She wanted Welcome with a fish underneath of it. So I did some old school manual (scissors and tape) and merged two of Steve Good's patterns together and emailed her a copy. She liked it, so this morning I got a good refresher in cutting 1/8" Baltic Birch and small cuts. Went slow and am happy with the results. Now to turn it over to the painter (my wife) for her to finish.3 points -
Herd of Fred
Phantom Scroller and 2 others reacted to barb.j.enders for a topic
Here is my latest herd of "Fred's". Steve Good pattern that I reduced to 50%. 1/4" BBply. The base is an old cut off from a Christmas tree. Finish is a new product I tried. Not sure I really liked it. Turned out to be a little more "glossy" than I normally would use, but I guess we'll see at my November craft sale. Probably need a bit more practice with it.3 points -
names martin, been following you guys for a while now, and this must be just about the nicest forum i've ever been on. i've been scrolling, and burning and other crafty stuff for about six years now. all began when i got seriously ill and needed stuff to do to stop me going nuts. a few pictures of stuff i've done, recording work is something i'm not good at. most of my work is given away, much to my lasses distress. some of the patterns are from here, some jim blume, some steve good, others i forget, i'm an avid collector of images/patterns that hopefully i'll get around to doing. for my brothers wedding anniversaryon the mother in laws wallfor my lasses uncle, it's burnt on to a cheese boardanother burning of a friends dog2 points

OCtoolguy and one other reacted to Eplfan2011 for a topic
Thanks Dick. TBH I thought the fish one was beyond me but as you said break it down and do it step by step. I'm glad I tried to cut it as I learned a lot. I was having problems cutting 90° inside corners, but when I changed my hand positions it all seemed to click and it started to flow. Feed speed let the blade do the cutting. I appreciate all of your comments a lot are very helpful as well as encouraging, I came to the right place to learn !2 points -

I would second the suggestions. I used a 3-5 blade slow down and one other thing years ago it was suggested to me to try Duck tape instead of packing tape. Changed my cutting without Melting together.2 points -
Well, since nobody has named the movie, I will……. The Princess Bride. The quote is “Hello, my name is Indigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die!”.2 points

Custom Ornament Business Kits - 30% Off!
NC Scroller reacted to Travis for a topic
Hi All. Someone sent me an email the other day asking if my Ornament Business Kits ever go on sale because they wanted some of the older ones. Each year I publish the new business kit on November 1st and put it on sale for 50% off through Cyber Monday. Then it goes to the normal price of $20. Some folks want it earlier so they can get a jump on the Holidays, but it usually doesn't work out too well when I do it that way. So it got me thinking that maybe I can put the previous years up for sale in the middle of the year. The whole "Christmas In July" thing has come and gone (I'm a bit slow on the uptake), so I thought I'd offer it up now. So, all of the Custom Ornament Business Kits in the eBooks section is 30% OFF through September 30th! Note: These ornament business kits are meant for folks who have a working knowledge of Inkscape. You don't have to be an advanced user, but you should have the basics down. If you'd like to learn more about Inkscape, you can find my free online course here. Enjoy!1 point -

I've not used a spiral very much at all but opening the existing cut up using the spiral blade was where I was going. Also I found buy gently rubbing along the line you can tidy up if you didn't quite get on the line. I think I'll have a busy weekend and beginning of the week but I hope to try out the pegas blades soon.1 point -
Lost Pattern

I've not tried this, but I think it would help get to a good start for a pattern. Lay the piece on a copy machine and photo copy it. Like i said, it should work as a crude start.1 point -
Two completed projects that could not be more different.
FrankEV reacted to Eplfan2011 for a topic
Frank, first off both cuttings are great excellent work. I've seen to be drawn to these cartoon characters I really like the look. Being a newbie at this I had to really zoom in to see how you achieved this look. Thanks for posting these I'm going to have to order some good ply and give one a go, knowing it won't look anywhere as good as yours1 point -

I think I had actually purchased that board in Toronto about 5 years ago, when I was visiting my sister. There is a great shop - Woodchuckers - that I go visit when in TO. They have a small room with assorted boards. They will mail it to me in Winnipeg via Canada Post so the shipping cost isn't outrageous.1 point -
This movie is The Princess Bride. Not at all your typical romantic comedy. Lots of people, including me, love it but it's very wacky and different. You may or may not like it, but I doubt you'd nod off.1 point

I am quite impressed with your quick improvements in your cutting. It appears you are able to stay on your cutting lines quite well. Once you feel you are really happy with your cutting, then is the time to step to a pattern that you would like to cut but maybe have been a little afraid and feeling it is too difficult. Perhaps then you might give that scary one a try. Remember though, it is a good idea to slow down even more as you feel out the new pattern cutting process. You should have little trouble as you progress as long as you do it in steps, so to speak Dick heppnerguy1 point -

Thanks for the link. It looks somewhat different than the dead tree version I have. I'll compare the two later, the computer and shop are on different floors. Feeling a bit lazy right now. The problem is I seem to be short a pattern for one of the rings? Thanks again!1 point

I was having problem with Inkscape and printing 11 x 17 ( I'm not alone ). The pattern for these is about 2/3 the original, and since I hate waste I'm using the pattern that I have. I had some 1/8 inch wood, so that's what I'm using. I don't know the species; blade FD Polar 2/0, pilot holes #71 drill bit ( .025 ), quarter for sca1 point

Hammering Hank
frankorona reacted to Charlie E for a topic
Henry "Hank" Aaron. Played most of his career with the Atlanta Braves. 755 career homeruns. He broke Babe Ruth's record of 714 in 1974. I was 13 at the time and remember friends explaining why Babe's record was better, which they probably heard from their dad. At the time I just figured I didn't know enough about baseball to understand. Pretty sure it had a lot more to do with color than baseball. Proud I got to see him play.1 point -
Thanks Frank. The lady said it was going to be placed on a bedroom room, a guest room as I understand it. I have a 1/8" backer for it the same outline as the pattern. Colors are light blue for background and yellow for the sign itself. It was an interesting difference going from cutting mostly 1/2" & 3/4" patterns to a single piece of 1/8"baltic birch. Much slower speed for that piece.1 point
