    My favorite bowl

This is the favorite bowl that I have made yet. Poplar and oak 3/4". it is 6"x8" in dimension. Stained with a Red Mahogany stain that was out of date and then sprayed with a satin Poly.

  4. I decided to do an easier project. This is a Steve Good pattern cut from 1/4 Pine with 1/4 Oak as the backer. The front was stained with Natural and the Oak was stained with Red Oak Minwax. Just the pine was finished with a clear gloss. I did touch the bullet holes in the backer board with a torch to give them a black char on the edges. I used Pegas #2/0 MGT blades. It was fun getting away from spirals for a project that I could use straight blades. I believe it was John that said my last "Pair of Colts" was click bait. I promised I would make it correct.

    Sir Elton John

Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me was popular when I was a teenager and loved fishing more than most anything. It always makes me think of being on a lake in the late afternoon not wanting the day to end. Thanks for the memories Elton. This was done from a black and white drawing I found on a site with free downloads as long as it was for personal use. The artist, Wilson Santos, did a wonderful job and it was fun deciding what to cut as I went along.

  10. Getting excited! this is our "Long Island Woodworkers" first show since the Pandemic started. It is also the first time at this venue. All aspects of woodworking will be represented and demonstrated within reason. The scrollers will have saws setup, the turners a couple of lathes with on going demonstrations. I made the Koala's in the middle of the flyer back in 2009. I am really looking forward to seeing what our members have created in the last three years.

    Improvement

Busy week and what time I got on the saw was spent just cutting line, curves and corners trying to improve my skills. I must admit I got very frustrated with myself, don't tell anyone but I was cutting a corner and made a mistake and just pushed the whole peice of wood through the blade and threw the bits on the floor Anyway I sat down for a few hours this morning and cut a Steve Good pattern. I must admit I did struggle with the small details, but my cutting was smoother, not happy with it but I see improvement. I also knocked up a quick Halloween lantern my wife had asked me to do.

    Good one ?

Sorry I did mean to post that I never received a reply lol. I did make good use of the money I didn't spend though, upgraded my magnifier light, new cheap HF stool/chair and ordered a airbrush from Amazon

    At long last

I have not done much scrolling this year because it has been far too cold in the garage even though I have a heater. But I have done a bit here and there and now they are finished i will show you. They are Christmas cards, stack cut and finished with tape on the inside. Marg

    At long last

Down here you can buy 6 blank cards in a pack, so I tend to just cut the six. I sandwich the cards between some very cheap thin ply. I hold the cards and ply very tightly together, (needs to be tight to stop the card from moving), and hold the all together with sticky tape around the out side edges. I can then attach the pattern to the top piece of ply. I use a #2/0 Olsen reverse tooth blade. When finished I attach the colored tape with double sided tape. Hope this helps. Marg

    Magnifier/light

Re visiting this thread. The ottlight worked well but being floor standing it began to get in the way, so I decided to revisit the HF light I originally bought. After trying it again I decided the problem was it just wasn't bright enough, I ordered a bright new led bulb for it and installed it today. I must say that it's a different light now and seems to work well for me. The Ottlights now sitting by my work bench for detail work, i do a lot of small soldering so it will replace my small unlighted magnifier.

  20. A Steve Good pattern (which has been popular at the Farmer's Market). My wife thought Black might sell as well, so this is the result. Happy with the outcome, but it took almost a whole can of spray paint to get a complete and even coverage. It looks like Santa might be getting me an airbrush for Christmas.

    Peacock

I finally finished this. I found it in a scroll saw book but don’t remember which one. I used worm eaten walnut so there’s a few places hat ended up with a small hole. I used 321 for the finish. I guess it’s another one for the garage wall. There’s no place left in the house. It measures 17x6. Thanks for looking.

    Another Puzzle

Another puzzle to add to my collection. I think I will try #3 blade next time, although I have to be careful as the paint fills up the cuts pretty quickly. I don't like the pieces to be too tight as it frustrates the kiddies. I used an Olson Mac 7 to cut the perimeter and a PG#5 for internal cuts.

    Magnifier/light

I haven't been happy with my harbour freight magnifier/ light but to be honest my eyesight is far from the best. My collage age daughter had to get a upper and lower GI today and my wife and I drove the hour and a half to be with her. She needed a new tire on her car so we took it in to get it replaced, it happened to be next to hobby lobby so we decided to look around while they replaced the tire. While looking around I saw they had a Ottlights on sale for 1/2 price $69.99, one of you had recommended it so I picked one up hoping the optics are better quality. The procedure went well and they found nothing which was good. I'll give the light a try tomorrow to see if it works for me.

    Road Runner Blah

I purchased a packet of Road Runner SVG files on-line, although I was only looking for this one image to pair with my “Wile E Coyote Help” piece. The SVG’s have many layers and after considerable trial and error attempts, I was able to segregate all the color layers leaving only the Black outline that I was able to convert into a scrollable red/gray pattern by adding a bunch of bridges. I sized the pattern to fit nicely on a 5/32” x 11” x 14” solid core Maple Ply panel. The cut panel was affixed to an 1/4” x 11” x 14” BB Ply backer that had been painted with Krylon rattle can spray Gloss Black. After relatively easy cutting with Pegas #1 MGT R blades, the remaining interior areas was painted with Artist Acrylic Paints. I painted each visible bridge Black, so it has the appearance of the outlines being continuous. And, like usual, the assembled panel was protected by multiple coats of Deft Clear Gloss Lacquer. The Frame is 1 3/4” wide pine painted Glidden Gloss Black. I think I will need to give the frame another coat of paint as the Pine wood grain is too visible in the photo. Comments and Critiques are always welcome.

I cut a Christmas card several years ago but I don't even remember now how I even did it. I believe I saw the idea and how to do it on Steve Good's page if I remember correctly. You perked up some ears when you posted these. Nicely done and should be kept for the artistic special cards, they are Dick heppnerguy

    Christmas ornament

Hi everyone, just a quick shoutout to Don in Brookline for adding this name on Steve Goods pattern. I was able to get out in the shop finally for a little bit. I added a backer to this one to make the letters stand out more. Just need to put a picture in it once the baby is born. Not due until November. Thanks again Don. Really appreciate it.

    Peacock

Fish, great job on the peacock panel. It is a lot of work!. I did the same a few years back and actually cut 8 panels and made into night lamps. I used amber lexan as an inside backer. The original pattern was done by Tiffany and are 2 curved doors in The Chicago Palmer House Hotel. It may be a challenge but they made wonder lamps. Message me if you want more details.

  42. I watched the video. Why does he paint spoons black.. He kept saying he would paint a lot of spoon black because he uses them the most... Why not just buy black plastic spoons. I do think I would use one of those. I have a cheap one but have never used it because there is too much clean up... this one solves that.

    Pair of Colts

This turned out to be a really fun project. The pattern is from Jim Blume and initially I was a little afraid of it because it looked to be bitmapped. (Sorry, Jim, for doubting your pattern! I should have known better.) Anyway, I was pleasantly surprised on how it turned out. I will add that the photos do not give them justice. These were stack cut using 1/4-inch Oak and Maple ply, both finished with natural stain. The backer is 1/4-inch Pine painted black. They have 6 coats of clear with light sanding with 600 grit between coats. The frames are both framing material stock cut to fit the 13 X 19 backer board. I did re-stain the frames using Weathered Oak on the Oak piece and Expresso on the Maple. A tip to anyone wishing to cut this pattern, there are several areas that will be very delicate. The piece would flex just from handling. Also, be very patient when sanding.

  46. It is my first Thanksgiving pattern, I made it for my customers from US and Canada (as I know these countries celebrate it). In Ukraine we also have Thanksgiving Day, it has the same name, but it is not related to American holiday. In this day we thanked God for the harvest, prosperity in the family and good health. Just completed these two cuts, it’s part of a them which will make more sense when I post the other two which I’ve just started cutting. I believe each cut can hold its own but together they will tell a different story.
