  6. The Show was great! We were setup in the main entrance which is a huge atrium with lots of natural light. A very busy three days Friday was setup and then Saturday and Sunday. We had to be completely out by 5 on Sunday. It will take me a bit to go through my pictures. This is a picture of one of the Scrollers tables, my friends Bob and Joe (also test cutters for the magazine) We raffle off the tree with all of the ornaments. Also on the table are two of my clocks that draw in lots of people. The other is our group project where we all take a project out of one issue. and the other is with my Intarsia piece that got a first place ribbon.

  8. Getting excited! this is our "Long Island Woodworkers" first show since the Pandemic started. It is also the first time at this venue. All aspects of woodworking will be represented and demonstrated within reason. The scrollers will have saws setup, the turners a couple of lathes with on going demonstrations. I made the Koala's in the middle of the flyer back in 2009. I am really looking forward to seeing what our members have created in the last three years.

  9. This Nite Light has been my go to gift for new mothers for 3 generations now. Started making them when our peers were having babies, then those kids started having babies, and now the babies are having babies! The Nite Lite is designed with a fretwork panel that slides in front of the light and screens the light from the inside. A hidden chamber in the back can store additional panels.

  10. This was actually posted down in the "Deals" section of the village over a month ago.. I just seen it last night and checked this morning and my saw is one in the recall group. I bought my saw based on reviews from asking here so I know many of you own the same models of saw.. I thought it might get seen more if I posted this up here in the general forum section. Here is a link to the recall info: https://www.dewalt.com/miter-saw-recall I just filled out the info in the link and they are sending me a new guard with replacement instructions..

    My favorite bowl

This is the favorite bowl that I have made yet. Poplar and oak 3/4". it is 6"x8" in dimension. Stained with a Red Mahogany stain that was out of date and then sprayed with a satin Poly.

  14. Thanks for the kind comments. I had been to the Museum back in the 80's. One of my friends volunteers there as a model builder for the displays. he made the connection for the club. He also gave me a tour of the rest of the museum. It cornicles the history of aviation on Long Island. WOW. what was accomplished long before computers bogles my mind. A view from a small part of the area from the balcony. Also some fretwork, two are Charles Hand designs , I did the winter scene and Wolf, my friend Bob did the summer cottage and the big intarsia. The paper cut looking piece is one of the several scrollers that really showed me the fretwork techniques when I first started crolling.

  15. Yeah, I wondered how well they'll handle this as far as how fast they'll get the parts out.. They say not to use it until the issue is repaired.. but who's gonna wait 2 + weeks let alone 6-8 weeks.. I don't use mine daily for the most part but I do use it a couple times a week.. some weeks a lot of use and others maybe not at all.. But if I need to use it I'm going to use it..

  16. I've always believed that intarsia is much like carving, in that to be done well, one must be able to "see" the image in 3D, when looking at a flat piece of wood. It's a skill that not everyone has. I know I don't.

  19. Rolf.....your Intarsia is some of the best I have seen. The parts really fit together. However, your shaping should be an example to others. Too many people just found the edges but yours are shaped extremely well and bring out a 3D effect.

  21. Yes, when adequately thinned and using a larger tip size. Craft paints tend to have larger pigments. All airbrushes are not the same, and all paints are not the same. You have to experiment.

Thanks Charlie. We went to a Markets in Coolgardie on Sunday, about 1/2 hour away from home. Two different people bought these two, one while we were still setting up another about 15 minutes after the official opening.

  28. I decided to do an easier project. This is a Steve Good pattern cut from 1/4 Pine with 1/4 Oak as the backer. The front was stained with Natural and the Oak was stained with Red Oak Minwax. Just the pine was finished with a clear gloss. I did touch the bullet holes in the backer board with a torch to give them a black char on the edges. I used Pegas #2/0 MGT blades. It was fun getting away from spirals for a project that I could use straight blades. I believe it was John that said my last "Pair of Colts" was click bait. I promised I would make it correct.

  29. Thanks again Kevin. I'm going to play around on the CRICUT cutter and then order the pattern set, I probably won't be able to get all the words to fit around the circle, but that gives us the chance to choose the wording for the patient. I wish you PEACE & GOOD HEALTH !

    Improvement

Busy week and what time I got on the saw was spent just cutting line, curves and corners trying to improve my skills. I must admit I got very frustrated with myself, don't tell anyone but I was cutting a corner and made a mistake and just pushed the whole peice of wood through the blade and threw the bits on the floor Anyway I sat down for a few hours this morning and cut a Steve Good pattern. I must admit I did struggle with the small details, but my cutting was smoother, not happy with it but I see improvement. I also knocked up a quick Halloween lantern my wife had asked me to do.

    Another Puzzle

Another puzzle to add to my collection. I think I will try #3 blade next time, although I have to be careful as the paint fills up the cuts pretty quickly. I don't like the pieces to be too tight as it frustrates the kiddies. I used an Olson Mac 7 to cut the perimeter and a PG#5 for internal cuts.

    John Wayne

If I remember correctly, The Duke once said something like "It's a great job, all I've got to be is myself" I think the only bummers are where he tried to impersonate somebody else, like Genghis Khan and the Centurion in The greatest Story ever Told' "Truly this Man is The Son of God" I still regularly watch John Wayne Movies. You know who the good guys are and the bad blokes always get their comeuppance. The way things should be. BTW That's a nice pattern and cutting Kris.

    At long last

Down here you can buy 6 blank cards in a pack, so I tend to just cut the six. I sandwich the cards between some very cheap thin ply. I hold the cards and ply very tightly together, (needs to be tight to stop the card from moving), and hold the all together with sticky tape around the out side edges. I can then attach the pattern to the top piece of ply. I use a #2/0 Olsen reverse tooth blade. When finished I attach the colored tape with double sided tape. Hope this helps. Marg

Nice projects. I love these little guys. I am thinking about cutting some animal puzzles for four of my 2 and 3 year old grand kids this Christmas. These sure would work well for that. Great job. The great painting jobs really make them pop Dick heppnerguy

  47. I'm not going to take either side. What I will say is that first of all, my saws, none of them, run as smoothly at full speed. The vibration factor enters in and that in itself disturbs me and I don't feel as much in control. I usually find that sweet spot where my saw is running as fast as possible without going into what I call the "shake zone". I try to let the blade do the work and follow along at my comfortable pace. I'm not in this hobby for speed. I'm in it for relaxation and enjoyment. I do not enjoy trying to "keep up" with the saws speed. I've learned how to make the sharp corners by relaxing the forward pressure and transferring that pressure to the back side of the blade while at the same time turning the work piece. Another thing I've learned is that "muscle memory" goes away very quickly. If I am not cutting on a semi-daily basis, I lose some of the memory and so I always warm up with a practice piece just to get everything working again.

  48. I'm thinking out loud here so please don't take any thing said personally it's just the way my brain works I may be over thinking this but wouldn't a blade running at 750spm remove the same proportionate amount of chips as a blade running at 1500spm being as it's making 2 strokes to the others one? I'm inclined to think whatever speed the blades running the amount of of pressure applied to the wood your cutting would dictate the speed of cut. If the wood does not touch the blade no cutting occurs and the blade stays cool. The more pressure applied to the blade the faster the cut and the more heat is generated untill it reaches it maximum rate of cut when as stated it cannot clear chips fast enough. Just my logic and it may be wrong but it makes sense to me as with all things it's down to personal preference and whatever works for you.

  49. I work from home and have to use my phone for MFA authentications, many times a day (SysAdmin, I jump into a lot of different servers requiring MFA) I typically lay my phone down, and pick it up every time I have to allow myself access. So, I figured I should make myself some sort of phone holder to hold it upright so I can just tap the allow button. I had some left over white cedar from a bunch of bird feeders I was building, so looked online for some ideas. I saw one that someone made that I sort of liked. I printed the picture out and followed it as my pattern. Because it's cedar, and smells good, I just left it raw and unfinished. I sanded it a bit, but I didn't want to spend more than 15 or 20-minutes making it. This is what I came up with: Dan
