    A Few Ornaments

I’ve been cutting Christmas ornaments lately. Its been a good way to use the small pieces laying around my shop. The patterns are from Sheila Landry Designs.

    Not Wordle!

Just to prove that I am doing other things than Wordle. Getting ready for a November craft sale. Also just signed up for another one in December. The forest of trees still needs it's Tung Oil bath! I have a bunch of other items ready to cut as well.

Cut out this Steve Good pattern in stages over the course of a few days. 3/4" Select Pine using a variety of Pegas MGT blades. It's interesting - with the blue background the wood (with no finish applied) appears more golden, whereas with a black background the wood appears more white-ish / light colored. Funny, because I'm considering finishing it with amber Shellac.

  4. I started my scroll saw work doing intarsia. I enjoyed the idea that I could make anything at all out of wood. That surprised me in itself. After messing with those for about 7 years, I got tired of doing them. I still tackle one now and then but now my past is coming back to me in my Facebook memory, look backs, like the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, I posted yesterday here. So this morning I received another one of them from 7 years ago also. This one is one I completely designed and made the pattern myself. It turned out a new doctor was assigned to work in our local hospital and he turned out to be my wife's personal doctor. After talking to him for awhile, I found out he was an Oregon Duck fan so I decided to gift him with a little plaque and this was the results

ABSOLUTELY! Other than my insulated thermos of water or coffee, all beverages are banned from my shop. Canned ones leave rings on the saw tables and, invariably, some one will set one on a saw table. Alcohol is just plain VERBOTEN! Shiny spinning things and, other types of blades and, booze don't mix.

  7. I decided to do an easier project. This is a Steve Good pattern cut from 1/4 Pine with 1/4 Oak as the backer. The front was stained with Natural and the Oak was stained with Red Oak Minwax. Just the pine was finished with a clear gloss. I did touch the bullet holes in the backer board with a torch to give them a black char on the edges. I used Pegas #2/0 MGT blades. It was fun getting away from spirals for a project that I could use straight blades. I believe it was John that said my last "Pair of Colts" was click bait. I promised I would make it correct.

The last of the good excaliburs. What Kevin said about the tables is very true. Here's mine after 2 years

    Not Wordle!

Looks like Wordle is not taking up too much of your time. Lots of excellent scrolling there. Good luck with your sales.

I am a great fan of a western motif, and you really represent it well!

  16. Thanks for the kind comments. I had been to the Museum back in the 80's. One of my friends volunteers there as a model builder for the displays. he made the connection for the club. He also gave me a tour of the rest of the museum. It cornicles the history of aviation on Long Island. WOW. what was accomplished long before computers bogles my mind. A view from a small part of the area from the balcony. Also some fretwork, two are Charles Hand designs , I did the winter scene and Wolf, my friend Bob did the summer cottage and the big intarsia. The paper cut looking piece is one of the several scrollers that really showed me the fretwork techniques when I first started crolling.

  17. Thanks again Kevin. I'm going to play around on the CRICUT cutter and then order the pattern set, I probably won't be able to get all the words to fit around the circle, but that gives us the chance to choose the wording for the patient. I wish you PEACE & GOOD HEALTH !

    Remembering the Queen

Thank you John. Yes Charlie does some really good patterns. The Queen was a fine person indeed. I have lived in the UK for some 50 odd years now and have seen a lot of Prime Ministers and their governments come and go but she always seemed to be the steading force that kept the pendulum from swinging too far. I hope her son, after what must be the longest apprenticeship in history, carries on in the same fashion.

    At long last

Thanks Marg. I’m excited to give this a try. The only problem is this “very cheap” ply you mentioned. I don’t think we have that up here.

    Stain, Paint, Or?

I used tie dye to color wood with really good results. I was looking for ways to get color with out too much waste (in stain or money). I got a rainbow of colors for less than $20 ans had a whole bunch of people do the activity. I'll put a couple of pictures of our results.

    Ferris Wheel

Just had to post this. I sat down today with the plans to generate a parts list for all the little stuff, like motor screws, pegs and such. I searched everywhere but no accessories kit for this anywhere. So as I sat down with the plans a little voice went off in my head to check the back of the file cabinet where I keep my plans. Apparently when I purchased the plans I was smart enough to get the accessories kit too. There it was in the back of the file still sealed firm the post office when it was delivered. Surprised the crap outa me, didn't think I was that smart (lol). So if ever there was a sign, this is it. Its Ferris Wheel time...... Chris
