The pattern is found on Scroller Online with no designer mentioned. the wood is 1/4" Baltic Birch plywood 4" x 16" and backed with 3/8" Baltic Birch plywood stained black with Saman stain. Cut on the Pegas Scroll Saw using Pegas #1R MGT blades. The finish is spray Minwax Lacquer Clear Satin. Comments welcome.

    It's my round!

Hello Everybody, In long time ago I bought a bottle opener and I made it with a piece of pine for fun.

  4. Another Alex Fox pattern. This is a Trivet this time. Instead of 3 different shades of wood/stain I went with primary colors. The biggest challenge was actually putting the pieces together and getting them in the right spot. Chris

  5. I started on a pretty detailed H.Botas pattern (eagle fighting a rattlesnake), and got about an hour into the cut when the plywood started delaminating. Badly. Thankfully I wasn't too far in or I would've had to start cursing in a language other than English, having exhausted all of my normal, everyday foul language. So I did the adult thing: chunked the bad section (whilst muttering under my breath...), reprinted the pattern (a little bit larger this time....this thing is INTRICATE), and fired up a couple of quick-n-easy patterns to get some finishes under my belt and reset my braincell. H.Botas rock-n-roll G-nome, and an arrowhead pattern by Sue Walker that I've had for a while, found it in the pattern library. Gnome is backed by a tie-dye printout on regular printer paper, found it on Google Images. Arrowhead is a piece of cedar fencing, stained Minwax "Honey".

This is a Steve Good pattern cut from 3/4-inch treated pine ply with a 1/4-inch pine backer. The paint is actually black but looks blue in the picture due to the poor lighting. The backer is stained Natural to contrast with the black. Wanted something easy to cut although the treated pine was a little tough on the blades.

    Paint Or Not?

One of my latest layered ornaments. I’m kinda new to painting my projects so I’m torn if I like it painted or not. Your thoughts?

    Software Update - 9-26

Hi All. There are some software updates I'm getting ready for in November. One of which, they're upgrading PHP (the building blocks of this website) to v8. The problem is, V8 isn't very backward compatible with previous versions, but it's where the internet is going.....so I gotta keep up. Anyway, I just switched over to the new version. Everything seems fine. Let me know if you see anything that isn't working the way it should be, though. Thanks!

  10. We have a craft day in our community (185 household all retired) so I have to get some stuff to sell to replenish my supply of wood. Made some stuff from Alex Fox, Steve Good, Sue Mey and maybe somebody else.

  11. I converted this Zebra Image I found on-line into an 11” x 12” scrollable pattern. Cut panel is in 3/32” solid core Hand Painted Birch Ply affixed to a ¼” BB ply painted Black backer. Cutting was done using Pegas #1 MGT R blades. Assembled panel protected with multiple coats of Deft Clear Gloss Lacquer Frame is 1 ¾” wide primed and painted Poplar. Comments and Critiques always welcome.

  14. I made these Steve Good Ball Ornaments for our Christmas Tree this year. Steve designed them for a Laser cutter, but they were easy to cut on a Scroll Saw. I used a lot of 3/32” solid core Maple ply cut offs. Repeated pieces were stack cut. Small details were cut with Pegas #2/0 spiral and long curves and rounds cut with Pegas #1 MGT R blade. Images were hand painted with Artist Acrylic Paints after sealing with a Krylon Spray Sealer. I did a dry fit ups of each ornament to insure all fit before glueing. Where some tab openings were too tight, I adjusted them with a small flat file. I then used Locktite Superglue Gel for assembly. After assembly, each ornament was protected with multiple coats of Deft Clear Gloss Lacquer. A few personal notes here: Using a plywood for these ornaments was OK as they are just for our tree, and only come out for the month of December. However, they would look much better if a solid wood was used. Also, I would have prefered Images that were viewable from both sides. The word NOEL on two of the Onaments makes the opposite view read wrong, but that is just being very picky on my part. And BTW, the center Image piece would make nice flat ornamentss just by themselves . Comments and critiques always welcome.

    A little shop time

With my eyesight as wonky as it is I don't get to do a lot of scrolling. Just a couple of pieces I finished. Sadie and Trudy ornaments are from Steve Good and the Wolf is Grampa's I downsized it to work as a magnet. Still have some sanding to do and then stain.

    Paint vs stain

I’m hoping you all could help me out. Being "chromatically challenged" (color blind) I normally stay away from staining or painting a project. However, I’ve gotten a special request and I’m making a two-tiered plaque out of Baltic birch, the outer ring being comprised of connected hearts. I thought I’d either paint or stain the hearts to get a washed out red effect for contrast (I’m not looking for a bright red finish). Do you think it would be better to use thinned paint or a stain to accomplish this? If paint, how much should I thin it? If stain, what color would give me a reddish hue? Appreciate your guidance.

    Paint Or Not?

I like color and use it a lot in my work, as iI'm sure you are well aware. However, I don't really know if it works well in layered pieces, unless you paint everything. In your piece (n the second pic.) the trees and sky look nice but the camper, in my opinion, looks unfinished. BTW, laser cut...yes?

The blue colour is kinda like that "dress" from a few years back. Some saw blue and other saw gold.

  24. Yesterday's Farmer's Market had a couple people ask if the work was done by a CNC machine. I took it as a compliment and took the time to show them a piece partially cut out and explain to them how the scroll saw works. By the way - the Steve Good "Penny Drop" game has been a consistent seller the past four weeks.

    Paint vs stain

General Finishes makes a water-based dye stain in Empire Red which may have the effect you are looking for. It's easy to use, dries fast, and will allow the grain to show through with no bright color. https://generalfinishes.com/wood-finishes-retail/water-based-wood-stains-and-dye-stains/water-based-wood-stain

    Paint vs stain

I would use scrap and do both. experiment with the paint also. Then have your assessor, you or whoever decide what you like. Don't think anyone could make that decision except you.

  33. Added a cut to my “Theme” the fourth was finished today but still to be sanded, oiled and varnished, but I can update the first three and you can see where I am going with this theme. Just a reminder cuts two and thre was posted a few weeks ago, all the cut was with a #0 straight pin less blade. Thanks to Botas Helder for the Last Supper, Condemned and Crucified (renamed for my theme) Russ Beard Patterns.

  34. Wife says she wants another Mantel Clock with contrasting colors. I had enough working with oak (too brittle) I had some bubinga and poplar and started cutting. Will be gifting some clocks for Christmas.
