  1. More time to practice, this was out of my skills level but I wanted to give it a try. If I'm annoying you all with my frequent posts of my butchery , let me know I'll slow it down

    Raccoon

Hi, everyone, I have not posted anything in a while due to health issues. Did this pattern of a raccoon cut with a #3R Pegas blade, cut out of 1/4"bb with a pine backer painted black. Frame is red oak stained with true brown and 2 coats of clear paint.

I have not posted for a while, but am still alive and cutting. Here are few of my latest. First two are Jim Blume patters and the Lord's Prayer is from Sue Mey on more of my reclaimed maple. Jeff

  5. One of my granddaughters moved to another state a couple of months ago and has a new neighbor who has been very generous to her and her family. He has given them several items from his farm and from some of his hunting successes. She wanted me to do something for him in return. Apparently he has a bar in his house and she wanted me to make him a plaque to hang in his bar. She wanted something on the humorous side and I choose the one I am posting today. As you can see I went a little out of my bounds and decided to use a little painting to make it stand out a little better. As you may or may not know, I have been very unhappy every time I try to add some color to my work but I tell myself, if I don't keep trying to improve on it, how can I get better. I am more satisfied than I normally am on this one but I also understand I have a long, long way to go to understand how to add my colorization. That said, this pattern is a Steve Good pattern that I thought might satisfy my granddaughter and hopefully the man she is giving it to. Dick heppnerguy

    Shadow Box

My demo stint at our county fair yielded a number of custom orders for military plaques. One was with a twist. It was a Navy plaque and he wanted it mounted in a shadow box with a picture of the ship he was on in the background. This was the result ...

  8. A few weeks ago I noticed that I wasn't getting any air out of my blower on my EX 16. I proceeded to open the plate on the bottom that holds the bellows in place. A piece of rubber fell out and it looked to have a whole. Oh my! I was long out of warranty and what to do. I had good luck working with Denny at Artcrafter and he contacted Pegas and was able to get me a bellows. It came today and I will install it this weekend. You are my go to guy! Thank you Denny,

  9. I started on a pretty detailed H.Botas pattern (eagle fighting a rattlesnake), and got about an hour into the cut when the plywood started delaminating. Badly. Thankfully I wasn't too far in or I would've had to start cursing in a language other than English, having exhausted all of my normal, everyday foul language. So I did the adult thing: chunked the bad section (whilst muttering under my breath...), reprinted the pattern (a little bit larger this time....this thing is INTRICATE), and fired up a couple of quick-n-easy patterns to get some finishes under my belt and reset my braincell. H.Botas rock-n-roll G-nome, and an arrowhead pattern by Sue Walker that I've had for a while, found it in the pattern library. Gnome is backed by a tie-dye printout on regular printer paper, found it on Google Images. Arrowhead is a piece of cedar fencing, stained Minwax "Honey".

This is a Steve Good pattern cut from 3/4-inch treated pine ply with a 1/4-inch pine backer. The paint is actually black but looks blue in the picture due to the poor lighting. The backer is stained Natural to contrast with the black. Wanted something easy to cut although the treated pine was a little tough on the blades.

  17. So here is the last cut in the theme that I have done, to me it sums it up beautifully. The pattern is from Botas Helder and for the theme I have renamed it “ Give Praise to the Risen Christ”. I chose to stain the outside of the cut to draw attention to the hands, because I feel it sums it up beautifully.

    A little shop time

With my eyesight as wonky as it is I don't get to do a lot of scrolling. Just a couple of pieces I finished. Sadie and Trudy ornaments are from Steve Good and the Wolf is Grampa's I downsized it to work as a magnet. Still have some sanding to do and then stain.

  19. It has been quite a while since I got to do any kind of woodworking. The last thing that I can recall doing was a cradle for my Sons first born. He will be seven in December. After Dad passed and I moved Mom up next to us all that I have had time for was construction type work. Wife took of to see her friend in Florida last week and I stayed home to take care of the Dogs. Being that I am now semi retired I decided to take some time and uncover my Scroll Saw and move enough around in the garage that I would not kill myself while trying to move around. Not actually bragging (we should have a forum entitled stuff that I not ashamed of). I started out with some simple ornaments in Poplar wood ( I think all those patterns were from the Village Charity Book) to see if: 1 The saw still worked. 2 I could still follow a line. After that I decided to try my hand at compound cutting. Always wanted to but had never had the time. Those are made from Eastern Cedar. Steve Goods patterns. Below are the results. All are straight off the saw and blown off with the air hose, no sanding or finish hopefully that will come later and not be another 7 years. Thoughts good or bad welcome.

  20. A project cut some time ago but finished this weekend. The pattern is found on Scroller Online with no designer mentioned. the wood is 1/4" Baltic Birch plywood 4" x 16" and backed with 3/8" Baltic Birch plywood stained black with Saman stain. Cut on the Pegas Scroll Saw using Pegas #1R MGT blades. The finish is spray Minwax Lacquer Clear Satin. Comments welcome.

  22. I'm not certain of the core material I haven't worked with it in quite some time, did just buy some but haven't opened up the box yet. I'll try to remember to check it out and maybe I'll post some pictures of it. I know the stuff is pretty solid as it cuts a lot like BBply. I have regular 1/4" ply with I think MDF core? and the stuff is dusty and the veneer is really thin.. so thin that it's easy to sand through with fine paper. The project panels from HD are thicker veneer but not as thick as BBply. I'll see about getting some pictures of it in the next few days.

Hi Larry: Looks like you still got it With all the time you spent moving things around, then cutting, I have to ask: How are the dogs doing? After all wasn't that the reason you stayed behind..............LOL Glad to hear you found time to get back to the saw - Keep up the great work Oh yeah, one more thing, don't forget to feed the dogs between projects. Bellowing about Denny

Ray, The new bellows looked identical to the one I removed. It took a little to figure out how to install it. There is a hole at the bottom where the plate is mounted but there is no way to install it that way (especially with thick fingers)I removed the 4 screws that connect the upper housing cover to the square aluminum plate at the front where the 3 rods pass through. I removed the small bolt on the top that connects the 2 drive arms. This arm has a bushing and 2 Shims on either side. This arm has the pin to mount the bellows on the underside and can be removed ( a whole lot easier!) Reinstalled everything and it all works good.

    Bellowing about Denny

Ray, why would you think that, each saw is manufactured by different companies. They wouldn't be allowed, to copy the EX exactly the same, due to copyright protection. A minor change such as this, would go towards the percentage of changes they need to bring their saws to market. I'm not sure of what the percentage is, but, it's out there somewhere in a patent lawyers bag of tricks. That's how Saw-Stop has gotten so much protection, they patented almost every piece of their saws separately. Doing so, makes it almost impossible, to make a saw using any of the Saw-Stop technology.
