  1. OK, I just may be getting a bit carried away making another Cartoon Character. The Cartoon characters of my (way back when) generation that I grew up on are easily found free on-line, easily converted to scrollable patterns and after cutting, easily colored with Artist Acrylic Paints to their original simple basic colors. Yes, I understand that Copyrights and Trademarks apply to the Images so selling these pieces may not be the best Idea. However, they are fun to make and bring back a lot of fond (ahem?) memories. This Woody pattern is cut in 5/32” x 11” x17” Birch Solid Core Ply and affixed to a painted black 1/4” BB Ply backer. Cutting was done with a Pegas #1 MGT R blade. The assembled and painted panel was protected with multiple coats of Deft Clear Gloss Lacquer. The frame is 1 3/4” wide Pine, primed and painted Glidden Gloss Black. I prefer Polar for my frames but even the Prime Grade Pine I’m using is a lot less expensive then Poplar is. I’m currently working on a non-cartoon project, but I have a bunch of cartoon images in my files that I can convert and cut over time. Comments and Critiques always welcome.

  4. I received my delivery of plywood today its A grade and I went though it all and all the faces are perfect, also the face plys are nice and thick. I'm always concerned about buying stuff like this online and unseen but this was as advertised and I'm very pleased with it. It's a shame I'm going to butcher it . Should keep me busy till I can locate some good full sheets .

  7. Hey Everyone! In this scroll saw project video we make a cute Pumpkin Themed Candy Dish designed by Steve Good! This project is made completely of 1/4 inch material and is a tabbed design, In the video I show you my tip for how I keep the tabs measured precisely! Hope you all like the video! #ArtisanPirate

  8. One of my granddaughters moved to another state a couple of months ago and has a new neighbor who has been very generous to her and her family. He has given them several items from his farm and from some of his hunting successes. She wanted me to do something for him in return. Apparently he has a bar in his house and she wanted me to make him a plaque to hang in his bar. She wanted something on the humorous side and I choose the one I am posting today. As you can see I went a little out of my bounds and decided to use a little painting to make it stand out a little better. As you may or may not know, I have been very unhappy every time I try to add some color to my work but I tell myself, if I don't keep trying to improve on it, how can I get better. I am more satisfied than I normally am on this one but I also understand I have a long, long way to go to understand how to add my colorization. That said, this pattern is a Steve Good pattern that I thought might satisfy my granddaughter and hopefully the man she is giving it to. Dick heppnerguy

    Plywood arrived

Works out to roughly $1.75 a piece.

    How did I do ?

I agree about using different wood, the most noticeable flaws I see in this piece are in the wood itself. But then, we all practice on lesser woods first. And, along those lines, I do see some fuzzies on some of the cuts. The holes for the support cord might not be perfectly round. I often have trouble cutting a small round hole with the scrollsaw and now sometimes use a drill to drill the hole rather than try to cut it. When displaying the finished piece, nobody knows how you did it, just what it looks like.

    Raccoon

Hi, everyone, I have not posted anything in a while due to health issues. Did this pattern of a raccoon cut with a #3R Pegas blade, cut out of 1/4"bb with a pine backer painted black. Frame is red oak stained with true brown and 2 coats of clear paint.

    Question on Plywood

Now down here in NZ we get Plywood, MDF and that's about it, my Q is... What is Balsa wood, Basswood and now another has risen Paulownia Wood Plate. I'm finding it more and more difficult to get 3mm/1/8 ply here, prices are through the roof every where...any help on these names please... Merlin...

  15. after it's all said and done, you may find it would have been less painful/time consuming/etc. to buy one already made. My limited experience with custom work, like home remodeling, is to triple time and cost to most estimates. Of course, if it's enjoyable for you, go for it!

  16. That is a great one. Love the bright colors. Well done. I have been doing this "segmented(?)" cutting lately and really enjoy it.

    How did I do ?

Agreed I'd already told myself I was not going to cut that hole next time and use a a drill lol. Yep the wood was just a old chunk of 2*4 but it's not meant as a keeper just to cut and learn. I must admit I hate sanding I'm going to have to spend more time at it and find some more efficient ways to do it . Thanks !

    A Newby

Thank you all for the kind words of welcome. I've yet to affix a blade to my gifted DeWalt 788. But it is in it's place on the bench, with a nice comfy adjustable height chair and a foot operated switch. There's three small furniture projects in the shop, awaiting completion. They have a deadline. Then, I'll try my first practice scroll saw cuts. I'm really anxious to start scrolling again.

  22. She was hiding it from you, maybe she didn't want you to make another one. Women read mens minds well in advance and they choose how they'll react to it before hand. They always 3-4 steps ahead of us,

The pattern is found on Scroller Online with no designer mentioned. the wood is 1/4" Baltic Birch plywood 4" x 16" and backed with 3/8" Baltic Birch plywood stained black with Saman stain. Cut on the Pegas Scroll Saw using Pegas #1R MGT blades. The finish is spray Minwax Lacquer Clear Satin. Comments welcome.

    Grandson's portrait

Thanks Marg. I wish I had the patience to do that. It’s a wise idea. Several times I’ve taken a finished one off the backer and recut something I wasn’t happy with. Your way would be much better.
