    Pumpkins

This is my Halloween project. It used the scrollsaw, drill press, lathe and some carving. Paint is acrylics with lacquer over the top. The lights are a string of micro led lights with control and battery in base. 20221016_195210.mp4

    Sailng with Alex Fox

My wife surprised me again with another Alex Fox pattern. This ship pattern has LOTS of holes. Stack cut it with 1/8" for 2 copies. 1/4" backer and Gloss lacquer. I'll Keep one and one will go to one of my nautical buddies. Another plaque for his man cave.

  3. Had 3 of the grandkids for the weekend. The thirteen year old, Bodhi, selected Steve Good's Door Sill Sleeping Dog, the ten-year old, Harper, chose Rocking Kitties, and the seven year old, Maddox, did the heart out of the practice sheet. What a great way to bridge the years with smiles and more smiles.

    Mr. Wile E Coyote

These things a fun to cut and put together. So here is old Wile E Coyote. I got to use my air brush for the first time. Took some experimenting, but I think I have it pretty well figured out now. The gun was easy it was figuring out the paint. Getting the right mixtures.

    I'm Back Baby!

I started scrolling 4 years ago - but life happened and I had to stop for the last 2 years. My first machine was a Ryobi, which was great to learn on, and it paid for my upgrade to a Pegas. I'm in love with it all over again. This is my first piece back into this, a birthday present. It took 5 days start to finish. The color differences in the bare wood only show up with the flash on the camera The wood is all Baltic Birch plywood - 3/4 for rim, 1/8 for main body and 1/4 for lettering and the heart

    Tray Puzzles (Lots)

Finally finished a bunch of tray puzzles. These are all cut from 6mm MDF with a 3mm MDF backer. They are A4 size. thanks for looking These 2 are pics of Primary School I work at. The Wife is the Principle. The building is 35 pieces and Mary 20 pieces. I donated these so that the school can raffle them. I have shown Dump Truck Puzzles before. I have completed 4 of them ranging from 14 to 20 pieces. Have already sold 2 These are from a book I down loaded a colouring page and modified it for the Butterflys The Number Puzzles are from the same book as the whales Noah's Ark................ A Steve Goode Pattern. I modified it a little by removing the "Fish" and replacing it with a rabbit. The dove is very small so I have glued that in place. Next ones I will modify a little more by having the dove outside of the ark and repositioning some of the animals.

  7. That is totally awesome! Had my eleven old with us this weekend. We so rarely get to see him that the first few hours is spent just getting to know each other again... Did not do shop work this time. It was so nice outside we wanted to enjoy it while it lasted. So we shot the pellet rifle at spent spray paint cans and salvaged the marbles that were inside. We had a good time.

  10. So I had a project to do this morning and I needed to clean up so I thought I'd unbox the vacuum and do a quick review. it's not going to be technical just what I observe. First up this is a large vac at 12g and 5.5 HP it's not small. There's some assembly required, to be exact 6 screws one each for 4 castors and two for the accessory holder. There a 4 accessories that fit nicely in the holder, a nice size crush proof hose and two extension wands, the collection hose has a ID of 2" I cleaned up my mess from this morning and had no problems sucking up anything I pointed it outat, from dust to larger heavier debris, no surprises really just what you would expect from a 5.5hp vac. I also had installed the provided bag in the vac, and while using it there was no visible dust from the exhaust port. Ok now to the sound level, FYI my hearing is pretty bad due to some heavy duty chemo drugs and I have trouble hearing higher frequency sounds any lower frequency sounds are unpleasant, hence wanting quiter equipment. I used an app called sound meter to measure the difference in volume between different noises, probably not that accurate of a db measurement but the difference in volume should be. First ambient noise in the room, Second my hawk running full speed with no load, just to give you an idea of noise level as some my be familiar Third my cheapo shop vac And finally the DeWalt Firstly I my be wrong but I'm thinking db measurement is liner, as 12db difference doesn't sound a lot, but my cheapo shop vac screams and the DeWalt is very quiet. I think the hawk is very quiet when running with no load and the DeWalt is a couple of db more To sum it all up, I'm perfectly happy with the purchase and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it, the sound level is night and day when compared to the one it's replacing. I have all the fittings to add dust collection to the hawk but have yet to install it so I can't say how it performs there, but common sense tells me that I'm sure it won't have any problems being as 5.5hp is overkill in the first place. Thanks for looking and I hope this helps someone thinking of buying one.

    Giraffe

My first finished project two months into my scroll saw journey, this is being given away to my MIL who has a liking for Giraffe's, and for once I'm pretty pleased with how it came out. It's been a busy week, I framed it last Friday and has been in clamps since then, and today was the first chance I got to finish it. Cut on 1/4" BB ply with 1/8 ply backer painted black. The frame is 3/4 reclaimed hard Maple also painted black. The frame and cutting were finished with 3 coats of lacquer. Thanks for looking and even more for the help and advice that have got me this far.

  13. I think it says on the top of the unit also. I mean it says "Stealthsonic" and their other models so not. I hope they come out with a 9 gal stealthsonic, I checked, one of our Lowes has them and at $139. So tempting... But.

  14. Just for some useless info, I did some research on vac noise a few years ago and the Festool on the lowest settings was rated at 62dbl and around 72dbl on high. This is for the MIDI model which is the quietest one I think. I think the Fein was rated at 67.. ( now my memory is going to make me tell a lie LOL) Anyway I downloaded a app to my phone to test some things I had in the shop as well as my small Seyco vac system etc. I don't remember what my loud shop vac was. I think it was like 86dbl but that might be a lie. The little Seyco vac was like 62dbl but I will say it gets considerably louder when some fine dust gets into the bag / filter. The bag is kinda the only filter that thing has.. while it does quite well I'm sure the thing probably is spitting some fine particles out the back of it which is why I still wear a dust mask. Anyway, this DW vac seems like a real bargain for the price and only 65dbl. However some of the Fein vacs can be had for not a lot more than that without the Hepa filter and I believe you can buy that hepa filter and add to it later. I see no mention of the Hepa filter for the DW. Looks like the filtration is pretty good on it.. I'm sure it's better than the little Seyco system I have since the bag is the filter. The issue with these is that for a "real" dust collection you need a Hepa filter to catch those smallest of particles as they are what is bad for you. I'll definitely buy one of these once my shop vac dies.. maybe before that. LOL

  16. In the video posted earlier the guy shows the specs on the side of the box.. shows it to be 65dbl. Not sure why they can put that info on the box but not on their website. I think that info is needed for people to make that decision to buy one. Also I noticed that they have other models that look exactly the same online.. but the one that is the quiet one is a little more money than those others.. https://www.homedepot.com/p/DEWALT-10-Gal-Poly-Wet-Dry-Vac-DXV10P/305323783

    Miter saw ?

I bought this saw about two months ago. It went on a one day sale for $299 and I had a 10% coupon. It is an absolute dream of a miter saw. It is the exact same thing as the Delta Cruiser which sells for $500 minimum. Basically it is a Delta in the color orange. It is heavy and I mounted it semi-permanently to a miter saw cabinet that I built.

  22. My new Christmas ornaments set. All items made in the same style. I think it is a great variant for small presents for the family: each will get one piece from the set. Or use it for Christmas tree or as home decoration. Each project consist of 4 layers, size about 5,5 x 5,5 inches. Pattern at https://www.etsy.com/shop/AlexFoxUA

  23. I showed my wife Alex's pattern and wanted it right away. Got online and ordered. Not too complicated to cut but the wife wanted a backer. Then she decides she wants 2 more to gift to neighbors. They are all sad because the Hummies left last Tuesday. We'll have to wait until early April to see them again. I stacked cut and it went pretty fast.

  25. These were both stencils found on the internet. I wasn't a huge fan of either singer in the day, though I do like a lot of Queen songs now and David's, "Space Oddity." I also love David's duet with Bing Crosby on Little Drummer Boy. I found this piece of heart pine at a curb where some people are remodeling a century old home. Still highly prefer cutting oak but free is free. When I get this hung it will make number 99 on my shop walls.

  26. Db measurements are on a logarithmic basis. A 12 db difference is more than 10 times louder.

  27. Yeah, my thought too.. I only could find that info on the YouTube video review. Seems like Home Depot and even on the DeWalt website they do not list that info, LOL Yet it's on the box so I guess at least they did that.

I don't have a problem with the MDF Dust Charlie, Scrolling doesn't really make it any worse than timber IMO. I do know what you mean by dust when working it though, the router is the worst. I have come of off a job looking like a snowman after some projects. I reckon I must look a sight when I take of the safety glasses and mask. I have dust collection on my saws and belt sanders and always have the windows and doors open to the shed. Hope you feel better soon mate.

  41. Looking forward to your review. If you don’t mind, please describe what size tubes you have it connected to on the saw and if you could tell any difference in sound or if the unit gets hot when you have you pulling through smaller tubes on your saw. This has the potential to be a great option to the loud shop vac set up I have. Thanks in advance

    Halloween Bat

Thanks for the kind comments, I purchased the LED's (or Light Emitting Diodes) to give them their correct name from Amazon. They are very cheap to buy and come in various colours. The ones I used were 5mm but other sizes are available. The LED has 2 legs, the longer one is the positive and the shorter one is the negative connection. I soldered the 2 positive legs together and the 2 negative legs together, then simply connected a 3V watch battery to power them. I have included a picture of some green and white LED's. I hope this helps, Alan.

  45. Looks good. A quick painting tip for the calico - use a small sponge to dab the paint on. That way you get a "blurred" line between the colours. I did this tree puzzle with sponge painting.
