I started scrolling 4 years ago - but life happened and I had to stop for the last 2 years. My first machine was a Ryobi, which was great to learn on, and it paid for my upgrade to a Pegas. I'm in love with it all over again. This is my first piece back into this, a birthday present. It took 5 days start to finish. The color differences in the bare wood only show up with the flash on the camera The wood is all Baltic Birch plywood - 3/4 for rim, 1/8 for main body and 1/4 for lettering and the heart3 points

DeWalt 2stage Quiet wet and dry vac
OCtoolguy and 2 others reacted to Eplfan2011 for a topic
So I had a project to do this morning and I needed to clean up so I thought I'd unbox the vacuum and do a quick review. it's not going to be technical just what I observe. First up this is a large vac at 12g and 5.5 HP it's not small. There's some assembly required, to be exact 6 screws one each for 4 castors and two for the accessory holder. There a 4 accessories that fit nicely in the holder, a nice size crush proof hose and two extension wands, the collection hose has a ID of 2" I cleaned up my mess from this morning and had no problems sucking up anything I pointed it outat, from dust to larger heavier debris, no surprises really just what you would expect from a 5.5hp vac. I also had installed the provided bag in the vac, and while using it there was no visible dust from the exhaust port. Ok now to the sound level, FYI my hearing is pretty bad due to some heavy duty chemo drugs and I have trouble hearing higher frequency sounds any lower frequency sounds are unpleasant, hence wanting quiter equipment. I used an app called sound meter to measure the difference in volume between different noises, probably not that accurate of a db measurement but the difference in volume should be. First ambient noise in the room, Second my hawk running full speed with no load, just to give you an idea of noise level as some my be familiar Third my cheapo shop vac And finally the DeWalt Firstly I my be wrong but I'm thinking db measurement is liner, as 12db difference doesn't sound a lot, but my cheapo shop vac screams and the DeWalt is very quiet. I think the hawk is very quiet when running with no load and the DeWalt is a couple of db more To sum it all up, I'm perfectly happy with the purchase and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it, the sound level is night and day when compared to the one it's replacing. I have all the fittings to add dust collection to the hawk but have yet to install it so I can't say how it performs there, but common sense tells me that I'm sure it won't have any problems being as 5.5hp is overkill in the first place. Thanks for looking and I hope this helps someone thinking of buying one.3 points -

I'll start by saying this is extremely close to a pattern by Charles Dearing so I would never share or sell this pattern. I saw his pattern on Scroll Saw Association of the World on Facebook and liked it, so I found the original photo he worked from and made my own pattern. I've seen a post from Charles himself about pattern designers using the same source photo and that nobody should have a problem with that so I don't think he would mind. If you like it, as I said his pattern is very similar and is for sell on his site, Wooden Visions. I did some checking and Matt shot 158 men and 7 women. He was shot 56 times and lived. So probably best not to draw on him.2 points

pegas blade slippage

I have been doing that on my Pegas blades, lately. Not so much on the Flying Dutchman blades.2 points -
pegas blade slippage
John B and one other reacted to Zoot Fenster for a topic
I did a couple things to improve the Pegas slippage. Wet a paper towel with mineral spirits and clean the upper / lower chuck faces. Two, the ends of each blade are pulled through 400 grit sandpaper. That seems to remove to lubrication from the ends.2 points -
DeWalt 2stage Quiet wet and dry vac
John B and one other reacted to Eplfan2011 for a topic
You're welcome Barb, it's obviously not silent but it's a big improvement for me at least. I've never used the app before but it did what I needed it to do. There are other vacs out there this quiet but at triple the price, as to how long it will last time will tell but DeWalt stuff tends to be pretty reliable.2 points -

Freddie, As i said in the post i used a app which I had no way to calibrate so how accurate 73db is! it was used as a baseline for the increase or decrease in volume ie there's12bd difference between the two. My cheapo vac was one my wife picked up at Walmart, the brand is Hart.2 points -

Tray Puzzles (Lots)
heppnerguy reacted to John B for a topic
Finally finished a bunch of tray puzzles. These are all cut from 6mm MDF with a 3mm MDF backer. They are A4 size. thanks for looking These 2 are pics of Primary School I work at. The Wife is the Principle. The building is 35 pieces and Mary 20 pieces. I donated these so that the school can raffle them. I have shown Dump Truck Puzzles before. I have completed 4 of them ranging from 14 to 20 pieces. Have already sold 2 These are from a book I down loaded a colouring page and modified it for the Butterflys The Number Puzzles are from the same book as the whales Noah's Ark................ A Steve Goode Pattern. I modified it a little by removing the "Fish" and replacing it with a rabbit. The dove is very small so I have glued that in place. Next ones I will modify a little more by having the dove outside of the ark and repositioning some of the animals.1 point -
pegas blade slippage
OCtoolguy reacted to barb.j.enders for a topic
Thanks for this info Denny. I think it is the first time I have ever seen information on where to place the blades. My Pegas clamps seem to have a small horizontal line, just above the set screw, that I try to line it up with.1 point -
Kev, I check my upper arm quite often to make sure it hasn't moved. So yes, it's level. And I looked at the bottom clamp and there is plenty of blade still to be clamped.1 point

pegas blade slippage
scrollingforsanity reacted to kmmcrafts for a topic
I think the Pegas clamps are more fussy than any other clamping system I've ever used.. They seem to need cleaning up quite often or they'll start slipping. As has been mentioned.. I've never had an issue with the Hawk at all and rarely clean the screws etc. up.. I've had regular excalibur chucks and not as much issues either, nor the DeWalt I used to have.. But those Pegas I do from time to time need to clean and or dress the ends of the set screw etc. I guess lots of people make an extra step to sand the blade ends.. not something I do but I will say I remove the oils from each blade ends by taking the whole bundle of them before unraveling the wire and I spray the ends off with automotive brake parts cleaner..1 point -

I clean my clamps and blade ends with denatured alcohol. Works great dries fast. Don't have a Pegas, but I run an Excalibur 21. Same style clamps.1 point -

I like it, Wiley E Coyote and road runner are still a favorite cartoon for me to watch. Maybe I can associate with that guy. In the shop I can get real busy creating something only having the completed project un- workable. I only used an air brush once at a carving class I took years ago.1 point -
DeWalt 2stage Quiet wet and dry vac

Thanks for the quick review and screenshots of the db level. Like @John Bsaid, it currently isn't available in Canada. I may consider ordering it and having it shipped to a border location for pick up. I have used a sound meter app on my phone. My husband will use it in a restaurant to see how loud it is.1 point -

Don't know how I missed this one mate. A great pattern of a bonzer kid. Grand-kids are true treasures, Like you we have been lucky to have our young bloke near all his life. He lived with us for most of it. His mother expects me to be his Dad, but a Granddad is much more fun1 point

Thanks Sycamore67, that sounds about right (excuse the pun )1 point -
I remember when I used the app on my phone.. I expected the db to be way louder with my shop vac than my small Seyco vac and I was surprised it wasn't nearly double the db like I thought it would be, LOL But what Larry saying about it being 10 times louder makes sense.. LOL I'm almost talked into buying this vac.. My shop vac is one of the big ones with the 5-6hp. 14 gallon I think. I'm almost talked into trying this DW one though..1 point

Thanks for all the kind words. This was a fun project that I was pleased with. Some of my projects end up in the trash...never to be seen. This project is on its way to my grandkids. I have used these micro led lights on several projects. You can find them many places but Amazon has quite a few different variations.1 point -
My only point on not having anyone mention the sound level I thought it was kind of strange. That is the one feature that would lead me to select this one over all others in that price range. To me that sets it apart. I just thought it would be mentioned more.1 point

Pegas Blades: Type R MGT blades OR SKIP blades
NC Scroller reacted to dgman for a topic
What John said. MGT blades are a reverse tooth blade that are designed to limit fuzzies, but will not entirely prevent them. A skip tooth blade will only make fuzzies worse. Stick with the MGT blades.1 point -

This is another one of Sue Meys patterns. The top part is birch with linseed oil on it. I put some spacers in between the front and back and threaded a string of lights thru it. The back is a piece of plywood that I got from my old high school a few months ago. It was a shelf in the library. . School closed many years ago.1 point

Maybe that’s why he got shot 56 times. I read that the lead poisoning alone should have killed him.1 point

Never missed an episode of Gun Smoke. Matt Dillon was the slowest draw in the west We used to laugh at a line in one episode where he yelled "Stop or I'll shoot" and shot between the I'll and Shoot Miss Kitty must of been the most frustrated woman in America1 point

DeWalt 2stage Quiet wet and dry vac
Lucky2 reacted to Sycamore67 for a topic
A number of vacs have the same feature or you can by an auto turn on switch. Because a scroll saw produces mostly very fine dust, I use my HEPA Festool on it and rigid vac on other shop small tools. My router table and all large tools are hooked up to a Oneida dust collector.1 point -
