  1. Tribute to my all time favorite musician and his faithful guitar, Trigger. Willie may surprise us all and hang around a lot longer, but I made this as a kind of farewell piece. "Funny How Time Slips Away" was first recorded in 1961 so Willie wrote it sometime before that. If you're familiar with his signature red, white, and blue guitar strap there's a glimpse of it between his braid and fingers. I worked my initials, CKE into his braid also. Let me know if you'd like a copy of the pattern.

    Hummingbird Urn

A friend asked me to make an urn for their mother's cremains. They will bury the urn in the casket with their father who has now passed. She picked a pattern from etsy (i think) and sent it to me. Building the urn itself was pretty straightforward but I was a bundle of nerves cutting this thin of a piece, especially the wing sections. Over all the box is 8 inches wide and 6 tall. Used a #2 reverse tooth. Solid maple for the construction as well as the cut. Planed the board to just under 1/2 an inch for the cut and inserts. Red mahogany stain on the insets top and bottom. They had the brass plate made and I also attached that. The name is blocked for family privacy.

  3. I hung the 100th portrait in my shop today. There are a few I didn't count since they aren't really portraits, like Groot, The Weeping Angel and a couple of signs. If I counted correctly there are 146 individual faces in the 100 portraits. So glad I somehow stumbled into this hobby. So many hours of fun, frustration , and therapy.

    A few more done

The 11” x 14” patterns for these pieces were converted from free image’s I found on-line. All were cut in 5/32” Solid Core Ply affixed to 1/4” BB Ply backers. Cut Panels and Backers were hand painted with Artist Acrylic paints. Assembled panels protected with multiple coats of Deft Clear Gloss Lacquer. Cutting was done with both Pegas Regular and Spiral blades of various sizes (I really don’t remember which ones). Frames again are 1 3/4” wide premium grade pine, finished by priming and painting with Glidden Max-Flex rattle can spray of various color’s. (I noticed in the photo there is a small scratch on one that will need a touch-up coat. The Glidden Max-Flex paints dry fast to the touch but remains very soft for quite a while until fully cured.) Bamboo Snack (Birch cut panel) Leòn (maple cut panel) Peeking Raccoon (Walnut Cut panel) Comments and Critiques always welcome.

    Another Celtic Cross

This is another Alex Fox pattern, this cross has a bit more detail than the last celtic cross I did. Trying to add some color to them and get away from so much brown . Bottom layer is ¼" the middle and top are ⅛" I was thinking ir might be more stable for the long term. Time will tell (lol).

No need to buff it out.. the heat and the air blowing from the hair dryer sort of melts and blows the excess off and out the back side.. Wipe off excess with paper towels..

    New product for us

My wife found a bunch of wood being thrown out, came home and got me and we loaded it up. Turns out it was pine, not a wood I use anymore so I let it sit and simmer for awhile. The other day, I started to break it down - I sanded down both sides (one side was completely rough and the other had some kind of shiny finish, maybe lacquer don't really know), cut into manageable sizes, remove any nails/screws etc. and as a welcome surprise, there were 10 led lights installed in some holes! Sweet! This must have been some kind of rec room lighting I think. Anyway... We've been asked to make a new product and using this reclaimed wood, I put together a new sample - Pet Urn. I have enough extra reclaimed wood to make about 6 or so more. Here is the finished sample product we're looking to release it this weekend. Duchess was one of our dogs who has passed and waiting for us. Thanks as always in advance Thanks as always in advance

    Blade changes

Thanks John, after a night's sleep I've come to realize I've just not cut enough wood yet to not only try different blade makes but also different styles. You can also throw different saws into the mix too, as I find the Delta more aggressive than the hawk. For any type of thin material so far the FDUR work well for me on either saw, on 3/4 plus hardwood I feel the FDUR works better in the Delta than the Hawk, but the Pegas MGT works really well in the hawk but as John said with the varing length constant adjustment between blades just make me not want to mess with them. I'll try the olsen blades next.

    Willie and Trigger

Couple of my favorite lyrics of his.-The yellow haired lady was buried at sunset, the stranger went free of course. For you can't hang a man for killing a woman who's trying to steal your horse. And-I heard you told him that you'd love him till the end of time. That's the same thing that you told me, seems like only yesterday. Ain't it funny how time slips away.

    Sanding

I have both type mops. The Mac mops are better for more delicate things. I use them on smaller things also because they are less grabby.

    Willie and Trigger

Nice one Charlie. I love Willies song writing. Hello Walls and Crazy would be a couple of my favourites. I saw a docco on "Trigger" and a fellow tasked with keeping it going, he had no easy job as was not allowed to alter the wear and tear. I must say it and Willie really go together, both weather beaten and seen better days.

    Blade changes

As everyone has said it depends. I have been cutting some ornaments from Cedar wood. I have been using #7 Olsen PGT and #7 Pegas MGT blades. The material is 1.5x1.5 inches. It takes me about 20 minutes per ornament and I have been getting 2.5 to 3 ornaments per blade. Had this been hard Maple or Oak I imagine that would reduce to probably 1 to 1.5 per blade.

    Blade changes

In all seriousness, it's only to the degree that it affects the cut, that it matters. We push our blades past their optimum limits, because we want to make sure we get our money's worth out of them. Once the quality of the cut or the time taken to make the cut impacts us to a level where it bothers us, then it's time to change. That point is a moving target and may well be different for everyone.

    Another Clock!

I don't sell a lot of them, but thanks to @kmmcrafts for providing the inserts on his website as well as information about the size, I can make them much easier now! It's nice they are getting noticed now on our table. Hopefully, we'll be making more as time passes. Thanks as always in advance

  17. Made this for my cousin, who is really into Halloween. In case you can't tell, it is Dracugnome. I made the pattern from a clip art drawing, which I modified for scroll sawing. The paint is acrylic craft paint and was applied with my airbrush and a paint brush for the details.

    Status flip-sign

Not sure what to call this, exactly. My boss has an open-door policy, but fails to shut his door whenever he's on a Teams call or in a meeting, so I came up with a quick flip sign so folks will know if he's available or not. Font is "Old London" from dafont.com. Text/backers are 3/8 bbply, stained Minwax "Natural" and "Dark Walnut". Center piece is a piece of scrap red oak I had, posts and base are some scrap mystery wood (cedar, maybe? My allergies weren't happy with the sanding). Attached the text so that they're readable when the sign is rotated.

Try the Olson Blades from Wooden Teddy Bear, Their Precision Ground and Mach blades are excellent. I use them for my stand up puzzles which and trinket boxes which use material fro 25mm - 50mm. I use FDUR for fretwork.

    Blade changes

I should mention that if you are having a issue with the blades tracking etc.. there may be a bad batch / run of the blades and you should contact your supplier.. many times if there is a known issue they'll send you replacements.. As for the length issue.. I guess maybe not enough folks complain about it.. They used to be uniform until they all of a sudden decided to put a notch at one end or the other to distinguish the top / bottom of the blade.. but there has been no constancy to that either but I've been told that it's to mark top or bottom.. but I've found the notch on both top and bottom or just top or just bottom or not one at all so that's not consistent.. They changed something back around 2017 ish.. and it's been a **** show on the blades since then.. JMO.. on what I've observed.. Olsen PGT blades track straight and a really long lasting blade.. however the smallest size is a #5 and it's a big #5 compared to other brands and styles of #5 in my opinion.. SuperSharp brand blades from P.S. Wood is a nice blade and probably be my choice for thick wood ( compound cutting ) but no reverse teeth so lots of fuzzies etc.

    In Support of Alex Fox

I am going to try to buy, and scroll, as many of Alex Fox’s patterns as I can, to support our Ukrainian friend. I just finished this one that I believe many have done before. 1/4” Baltic Birch, all cut with 2/0 Pegas spiral blades, except for Pegas #1 MG for six straight cuts.

    Blade changes

Bare in mind I'm a beginner and know nothing, I have the same problem as Kevin with the Pegas blades in the hawk, and on the Delta each blade acts slightly differently. I threw what's left of the 6 dozen that I bought in the draw and went back to the URFD I was using beforehand, I know a lot of you guys love them but probably because of my lack of skill I'm not partial to them. The FD blades for me are more predictable maybe I'll try again at a later date when I've improved some. On the good side for the pegas blades they seem more aggressive and seem to stay sharper longer.

    Blade changes

While I hate to say anything bad about Pegas.. I will say their quality control for blades is horrible.. I sometimes get a pack of blades like you said and they don't track quite right.. I rarely see two blades the same length in a pack too.. While it's not a big deal for a EX type saw it is for a Hawk as you mount the blade and set the correct tension at the back of the saw.. provided you use the same style and size blade you don't need to adjust anything.. but I have to with Pegas blades every time.. A 1/6" - 1/8" difference in blade length play heck with a Hawk that was dialed in for one blade and the next is longer or shorter changes that tension for me. Highly considering going back to only using FD blades..

names martin, been following you guys for a while now, and this must be just about the nicest forum i've ever been on. i've been scrolling, and burning and other crafty stuff for about six years now. all began when i got seriously ill and needed stuff to do to stop me going nuts. a few pictures of stuff i've done, recording work is something i'm not good at. most of my work is given away, much to my lasses distress. some of the patterns are from here, some jim blume, some steve good, others i forget, i'm an avid collector of images/patterns that hopefully i'll get around to doing. for my brothers wedding anniversaryon the mother in laws wallfor my lasses uncle, it's burnt on to a cheese boardanother burning of a friends dog
