  1. My wife has a cousin who visits us with two of her grown girls every year. She has purchased some presents for part of her family from me almost every year. I am finishing up the batch for this year now. I have two more to finish and then I start packing them up to mail them to her. I had her sit down with me at the computer and choose the ones she wanted to order. I was amazed that she ordered most of the patterns that do not interest me much and I never thought they would be chosen to have me cut them. But the customer is the one making the choices so here they are. I add some backer boards on the crucifixion project to give them a little color and add some interest to them. They are Steve Good patterns, should anyone want to know that. I cut them in BBPly and the desk project I used a piece of scrap wood for the base. The cross plaque is one I have cut several times before and is one that I personally have always liked and enjoy cutting. Unfortunately I do not remember the designer of this plaque and if I do I will come back and edit it in. Now you can see that I have been doing something in my shop since I got back from Montana and not just sitting around the house all day watching television. Dick heppnerguy

  4. I am primarily a turner, but I make a lot of ornaments for charity and use the scroll saw in the process. I need to cut some silhouettes of figures (whales, shakes, flip flops, boats, etc) and also the biggest pain was cutting 1/4 inch and under dowels to equal length without splintering them. The table saw was simply out of the question for such little work, same for the band saw. I tried measuring and marking the dowels and cutting them on the scroll saw but got too many differing lengths that were a pain to even out. So I came up with a idea. I used two HF shop spring clamps and a new paint mixing stick to make a fence on the right side of the table. I measured the distance from the saw blade to the paint stick to get 2.5 inches and then proceeded to cut a 36 inch 1/4 inch dowel into 2.5 inch sections. I went slow through the blade and kept splintering edges to a very bare minimum and was happy when I stood them on end and all but the last were dead even in length.

Which one do you like more? Here is my latest shadowbox, I made it two variants, squared as many of my shadowboxes and another one with rope frame. Pattern includes both variants at https://www.etsy.com/shop/AlexFoxUA

  8. I have made many of these turkeys based on a Patrick Speilman pattern. The turkey is one of those patterns that doesn't look like much on paper and then looks excellent after you cut it and put it together. I made the first ones for a preshool that wanted them for the kids to paint, and I have been making them ever since.

  9. I use a fine tooth Japanese dozuki saw for cutting dowels using this. It can cut through 1/4-inch dowels in a single stroke of the saw with very little.

  11. I fortunately have an outdoor closet behind the shop. I ran 1 1/2” PVC from the saw through the wall into the closet to a 4 Gallon 5.5 hp Shop Vac.The light switch below the saw turns it on. I can’t really hear the shop vac but the suction noise at the saw is loud enough I’ll be in the market for some blue tooth headphones. Anybody have any you recommend?

    Strong Man Walt

Came across this Steve Good pattern. I had to adjust the angle of the arms a bit to accommodate my saw, but it works. Looks better than the scrap block I was using. I put magnets in his feet so he would on "stand by" when not in use. Chris

    Pegas or Seyco

I have one of the first Seyco saws to hit the market. It has been a good saw and no real issues. It is my main saw. I have put the Pegas blade clamps on it. When hubby got me my Seyco, the Pegas was not yet out so I didn’t have the dilemma of choosing. the limitation on the angle adjustment is not a big concern for me because I have an older Excalibur as a backup saw that I would use for any angle cuts I wanted to make. That older Excalibur was bought used from Seyco as well. So I am quite familiar with Ray and his service and agree, he has been great. My main concern is what happens with the Seyco and service when Ray retires. All that said, if I was in the market to get a new saw, I’d probably look long and hard at the Pegas saw. I don’t think you can go wrong with either saw. Good luck in your decision.

  14. I just thought of something... IF you're budget is the issue and you want to go with a saw sold "as new" you might also look for refurbish / reconditioned saws online.. Many of the tools I have I bought new with a "limited warranty" but they have never given me any issues.. the only issue I have had with them is the extra money in my pocket and what to buy next with it, That being said, Bearwood is now offering refurbished Pegas saws.. you might want to look at those.. maybe give it a few weeks and see if they run any Black Friday deals on top of the discounted price.. https://www.bearwood.com/product8099.html I'd much rather do business with Denny at Artcrafters.. but I don't think he is offering the refurbished ones.. maybe he will, might not hurt to ask him about it.

  16. I think these are the newer version to what I have, I've had mine for about 5 years and they don't sell them anymore. In fact mine broke a couple weeks ago.. and I seen these but wasn't sure if they was good and I knew I liked the ones I had so I searched eBay and found a pair.. unfortunately I should have bought these I think.. The old ones are just getting old and even though they was new in the box.. the battery only last a day on my new / old one that I just bought. The old pair that broke I'd only have to charge about once a month and I use them probably at least an hour every day.. they went a long time. I put this pair you show here on my birthday / Christmas list for this year as I'm annoyed that I have to keep this eBay pair on the charger all the time. Hopefully they'll be good like the ones that broke.. went to put them on and they snapped in half.. imagine the plastic can only flex so many times over the last 5 years.. sure loved those.. good sound and very comfortable. The worktunes ones are heavy built but also heavy to wear and they are very strong / tight to the ears.. I don't have a big head either so can't imagine how they'd be if I did. LOL

  17. Nice work, look's great. I use a bench hook and Japanese pull saw. Clean quick and dependable. As for length, set up a stop block, slide the dowel over cut, repeat.

    Pegas or Seyco

I have used Ray for support for my Excalibur and very happy with him. The reviews for both are great. If I was replacing my EX 21 I would buy a Pegas.

  19. I have a pair of worktunes noise cancelling headphones I use when running the chainsaw or mowing grass etc. Mine are not the "bluetooth" version as that wasn't a thing back when I got them but the newer ones are.. or maybe I should say they have both bluetooth and non bluetooth ones now. For inside the house at my computer since I'm right in the same room as the TV we always used to compete with the volume so I bought a pair of Altec Lansing blue tooth noise cancelling headphones and I really like them. I have taken them out and mowed with them and every bit as good as the worktunes..

  20. It's worth looking around, I found my Hawk vs260 for a $100 cleaned it up and bought new knobs, new plastic clips for the blade holder and the retro fit blower for it. Runs and cuts like a champ for under $200.

I don’t have any experience with the Seyco saw but I do own a Pegas saw purchased from Denny. It is a great saw and would highly recommend it and Denny from Artcraftets.

  22. Hi All. For the last few years, I've been creating custom ornament business kits. It basically is a scroll saw business kit with everything you need to promote, create, and sell personalized Christmas ornaments. Everybody seemed to really like it, so I created another version with all new designs for 2022! I like to think of it as a mini scroll saw business-in-a-box. With this kit, you can create as many custom ornament patterns as you want. You can easily personalize them with someone's name or date. You can sell your custom ornaments to friends and family, online places like Etsy, or for craft fairs and church bizarres. You can also sell custom patterns to your fellow scrollers! Here's an overview of how the kit works: This year's Custom Ornament Kit is on sale for 50% off through Cyber Monday! So right now, you can pick it up for only $10, which is a screamin' deal! It's my way of saying Thank You for being a part of SSV and making it such a great place to be. I hope you find it useful. Happy Holidays, y'all!

    Fad's

A recent post brought up a subject, Fads, that I thought to expand upon here. I made one of the napkin holders that seemed to be a great idea, but it has sat on the selling table for 2 years with only a passing interest. What are some of the "fads" that you have seen?

  25. So I started this multi-layer papercutting-lightbox pattern last year....then a bunch of family drama hit, and my cutting has been slowed down. Finally finished the pattern a month or two ago, but I really dislike cutting frames. Nope, dunno why, just don't care for it. So I finally got the frames cut, trimmed to size, a couple of pieces of opaque plexi sourced, LED strips applied, and final assembly done. One less project stacked up and moved from convenient-horizontal-space to convenient-horizontal-space in my shop. Stack-cut these, stained one with Minwax "Natural" and one with "Honey", and then alternated layers so that each layer stands out from the layer above and below. Still waiting on a power supply for one LED strip (the box that Amazon touted as having two....did indeed have two strips, but only one power supply with two ports to plug in both light strips to the one supply...so, technically, it works. But these two are going to be 20 miles apart and I doubt the cities of Austin, Cedar Park, and Leander would look kindly upon an extension cord of that length), but the one that's working is now up on the shelf at work.

Yeah, I didn't like having to go through the hassle but once you're done, it's just a matter of bringing up the scan code on your phone. Now I have to get my wife's phone set up so I don't have to go with her everytime she wants to buy another plant or whatever.

    Pegas or Seyco

I have an EX21 and an older Hawk 220. I used an AMT made in Taiwan castiron saw for years until I saw someone change the blades on an EX21 and decided I had to have one. I have hands-on experience with Ray at Seyco and can't recommend him enough. The support is the best. I want to replace my old backup Hawk saw with one that works the same way as my EX21 so that when I pull it out and dust it off, I don't have to spend a day relearning how to use it. I have your exact problem; choosing between the Seco and Pegas saws.

    Spray Glue

Home Depot gives Veterans a 10% discounts for instore and online orders. Needless to say I purchase quite a bit of supplies from them. Much of their items they will also ship to my home. I used to use 3M 45 spray glue. I can't seem to find it anymore. I'm always up to tying new products. Saw this Roberts Glue online on HD site so I ordered a can to give it a try. Sprays a really heavy coat and is a bit messy. Really sticks well. A bit cheaper than 3M. I've used about a half of a can and nozzle hasn't clogged yet. I think I will be buying more.

  39. I don't know where you are in relation to this saw.. and this saw is not a small saw.. I kind of took your post as looking for a cheaper price than a small saw.. this is a 26" throat saw and is a Hawk Ultra. About half the price you was looking to spend for a new saw.. Even if you had to drive a couple hours.. Looks like new still.. not much goes wrong with the Hawks and Hegners and many parts could be had from a local hardware store. LOL https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/639933374502405?hoisted=false&ref=saved&referral_code=null There is also another Hawk 14" saw probably closer to you but it's the single speed.. price isn't too bad at $180 It's in Owensboro, KY and another one just like it in IN for $100 but that would be a bit of a drive. A Hegner in Nashville but it's $1500 too, LOL I don't know how much one can dicker on price of a Hegner but I know there are tons of Hawks out there and most times they don't seem to sell super fast.. and most times you can haggle on the price and get it much cheaper than asking price. Remember, getting close to the holidays many folks might be selling equipment they don't use much to fund the Christmas gifts.. Plus if you decide on a new saw we have Black Friday coming up.. and lots of deals on stuff. Grizzly used to offer a good price on the new DeWalt saws for most of November through to the new year.. They are decent saws too.. just don't have the bells and whistles of the Jet, Pegas type of saws..

Art-work was done on paper using color felt-tip markers, a copy of the art-work was made and glued (Mod Podged) to the wood.............quick and simple......Happy Holidays.

  48. Gus, At Home depot I found; Candlelabra socket base (comes two in a pack), 8 ft lamp cord with inline switch (separate items), three inch nipple (two pack), and a package of nuts. Any light bulb with the small candlelabra screw base will fit. Ten watt night lite, clear xmas bulb or any of the fancy Candlelabra bulbs (LED or incandescent) will work. The smallest 110 Volt LED I couold find in HD is 25W Candlelabra bulb that is abou 2 1/2" tall. Small Xmas light type Socket and Bulb may be available on-line.
