Ornaments For Charity is a project from the members of Scroll Saw Village. For the last 13 years, our designers have donated their talents by creating wonderful ornament patterns for the Holiday Season. It has become so popular, and so big, we had to split it into 2 books! Book 1 covers our first 10 years; 2010-2021. Our newest book, Book 2, covers 2021-2023. Between the two books, we have 171 pages with 525 Holiday ornament patterns! So be sure to download both books! This popular eBook was featured in the Holiday 2014 issue of Scroll Saw Woodworking & Crafts (read the article here). Is it really free? Here's how it works. Download the eBook and take a look at what we have to offer. If you decide to keep it, all we ask is that you donate to your favorite charity. You get a ton of great ornament patterns, and you help those in need in return. Remember, this isn't about "buying" an eBook of patterns, it's about giving to a worthy cause. If you don't have a favorite charity, we have listed a number of national (and international) charities below that could use your help. Remember, the purpose is to raise money for those in need. So, please dig deep when donating. Please donate to one of these fine charities or a charity of your choice. Toys for Tots is a program run by the United States Marine Corps Reserve which donates toys to children whose parents cannot afford to buy them gifts for Christmas. By giving to Toys for Tots, you'll bring the magic of Christmas to children in need. The Make-A-Wish Foundation is a non-profit organization that grants wishes to children (2.5 years to 18 years old) who have life-threatening medical conditions. It is a wonderful charity that brings a few moments of joy. Habitat For Humanity is an international, non-governmental, non-profit organization devoted to building simple, decent, and affordable housing for those who would not otherwise be able to afford their own home. A donation to your local food bank will ensure that the hungry will be fed in your own community. Make a difference in your neighbor's life.Free4 points -

I'm happy to announce that our Ornaments For Charity - 2022 Edition eBook is now available! For the last 12 years, members of Scroll Saw Village have donated their talents to designing ornaments for this unique eBook of patterns. This year, we added 11 designers to design 55 additional patterns. The book has gotten so large, we had to split it into 2 books. Book 1 covers our first 10 years; 2010-2020. Our newest book, Book 2, covers 2021-2022. Between the two books, we have 164 pages with 505 Holiday ornament patterns! So be sure to download both books. You can download the eBooks for free to check them out. If you decide to keep these amazing pattern books, we ask you to donate to your favorite charity (we're on the honor system here). Remember, this isn't about "buying" an eBook of patterns, it's about helping those in need. So dig deep when donating to your favorite charity. Please spread the word about these wonderful eBooks of patterns. Post to your favorite social media, other clubs, and organizations. The more people who know about it, the more money we're able to raise for worthy causes. You can find those eBooks here. There will be a tab on the navigation menu through Christmas. After Christmas, it will be moved under the Patterns tab in the navigation bar. I was playing around (fun) and decided to take a 2x2 and try to make a christmas decorations. Here are my failed (thud) experiments. i set the saw at angle 10 deg. Cut a tiny circle of 1/8 inch diameter about 1 inch from the end. Then cut another circle at 1/2 in diameter over the 1/8 circle. My attempt failed to have perfect stacked cones. But I can make a christmas tree. Some other experiments... 3d cowboy boot.. well the center looks more like a snow boot. I used the sides from the snow boot and shaped them for left and right thin boots. Cones...Notice the 2 cones get cut from alternate sides to save wood. I took the solid cones and painted it like a teepee, and silver paint for a bell. Then got my boots stained. And this was a tiny hat made from BB ply. I tried to belt sand the front and back to get that dip. Have a great thanksgiving. Me. Mark Eason4 points

I made these from the kit to be send to friends, instead of Christmas cards this year. I added a backer which is stained darker. The backer grain goes vertically, and cutout grain goes horizontally. They are made from RevolutionPly that I get at Lowes. It is intended as underlayment for floors, but works well for this and does not cost that much.4 points

The first thing I want to say is that I know nothing about motorcycles, so dont judge strictly. Secondly it is not exact pattern of some motorcycle model. I took some details from different photos, I made it to not violate copyright of famous brands, so I think it came out general pattern of cruisers motorcycle. What do you think? Pattern includes 2 sizes (10 x 5 and 15 x 7,5 inches), recommended to use 2 types of wood or stains. Motorcycle pattern3 points

It's been a little while since I posted my Halloween lanterns. Here are some pics of the chess set I've been working on. The chess pieces were done on the scroll saw. They are black walnut and mango. The board is black walnut and ambrosia maple. I still have to do clean-up and then finishing. Plan is to finish them using tung oil (unless some one has a better idea).2 points

Here is the first chess set I started last month - I'm still working on finishing it but getting close. The light colored wood is spalted ash that I found at Home Depot - it was a 6' tree spike that I paid $2 for. The dark set is mahogany. The board is cherry mixed with some figured pallet board wood (not sure what it is). The finish is tung oil. The frame is ambrosia maple.2 points

One day it worked, and the next, it did not. This has been coming for a while, as it would occasionally stop for a short time and start running again after a short pause. I thought my foot switch was going bad. I don't have any voltage at the motor terminals and suspect the electronics have failed. I dusted off my old RBI Hawk and went to work. What a difference. It is time to retire the old Hawk and buy a new saw. I'm going to buy a Seyco. I made this decision almost two years after spending some time on the phone with Ray Seymore troubleshooting and rebuilding my EX21.1 point

Thank you all for the appreciations. Yes I try to do things differently and especially to have a practical side and when possible to make them from recycled materials.I belive that we the ''artists'' have the obligation to be the first to come up with ideas to transform the tons of garbage produced by society .The scroll saw cuts almost anything1 point

Hybrid scrolling
new2woodwrk reacted to Millwab for a topic
I was cutting some military plaques to use for scrolling examples for an upcoming demonstration I’ll be doing. Originally cut the veining but wasn’t particularly happy with the way it turned out so I decided to experiment with lasering the veining/inside details and scroll the rest. I liked the results enough to show one of each. The scrolling purist would frown on this I’m sure, but I’m thinking the non-scroller might think it shows up better. Picture shows the difference. Plaque on the left is cut, one on the right is the hybrid.1 point -
Hybrid scrolling
danny reacted to SawTooth1953 for a topic
I think the hybrid choice is yours to make. Using a wood burning tool is still hand-made. There are many situations where veining adds to the result and the access holes used, even for very fine blades, have the potential to be distracting. That's not to mention the time consumption to do a lot of them. Scroll saw 'purists' aren't truly your 'target audience' for your work. Don't worry too much about them. (The only time it actually comes into play is in a "competition" situation, which are few and far between, and the sponsor should be queried about hybrid work where pyrography is added to the scroll saw project.) Thanks for sharing. Spence Chicago1 point -

What awesome patterns, You all have really outdone yourselves. So many wonderful patterns to choose from. Thank you all so much for your generous contributions. This year we went to the Kent County Animal Shelter and adopts not one but two of their pups. They are semi-feral bonded sisters. they have a long journey ahead of them but they are learning fast that they are now safe and in a loving home. On behalf of Dallas and Sally we thank you.1 point

Glad to hear you are up and running again. I sometimes will use a small piece of painters tape to hold a screw to the screwdriver. Works well especially if screws are non magnetic.1 point -
I repair project like that is so frustrating - kinda like an itch you can't scratch. So glad you were able to get it running again. Bruce1 point

A good color printer, and a stack of self adhesive full sheet shipping labels so we can print all those wonderful patterns that those fabulous designers make for us... OR a case of spray adhesive if that is your method. Utility knife and blades? Pin nailer for nailing stacks together. Wood glue to glue all those broken pieces back in. The best gift is a full subscription to Scroll Saw Village so you can also access the Groups.. and support the best site online..1 point

Mark, you need a hobby. Lol. Happy Thanksgiving1 point -
My Excalibur vibrated terrible when I first set it up too.. Now I'm in no way saying that there wasn't a mechanical issue with those saws that was complained about.. BUT I will say that many folks take a saw out of the box and expect it to be tuned and run perfect.. But the fact is they're not.. I learned that certain positions on the motor ( motor has slotted mount and can be turned to adjust forward / backward blade rocking movement for a more aggressive cut or less aggressive ) smooths or worsens the vibration the saw had, and also can make noises like a clunking sound of a mechanical issue.. but once adjusted properly works nice and smooth. That along with having it mounted to a stand that all the legs are planted firmly to the floor.. I usually will loosen the bolts to the metal stand and sort of make it settle in it's permanent parking spot in the shop and then tighten them down assuring that all legs are flat onto the floor because even a properly tuned saw can have bad vibration from a stand that is not also properly set up.. That all being said, I suspect at least some of those complaints to be just simply the saw adjustments way out of whack.. The one thing about buying from Home Depot is if there is an issue you can just take it to the local Home Depot for return / exchange rather than having to set up return shipping stuff on Amazon.1 point

Hi everyone. Paul (Grampa) was able to make me another pattern of my Granddaughter and boyfriend. He did another great job. I hope I do his patterns justice. Did this one today and decided to put a small frame around. I think it looks pretty good with the frame. I'm not good at making frames. Thanks again Paul for your quick patterns.1 point
