    This years Nativity

Several years ago, I decided I wanted to scroll a different Nativity each year. Well this is the one for this year.. the third I have completed... I'm a little behind. This is a Sheila Landry Pattern. Called "Filigree Nativity Set". It's a little different

  3. We do our best to talk customers out of coloring our products simply because what they envision and what the wood will take are often 2 different things. Water items, no problem since we do lots of them. Green pasture, no problem we do lots of them. However once in awhile we get an "unshakeable" customer and no matter what we say, they are adamant in their color scheme... This then is one of those customers. The "Matt Pan" shadow with Bronze hooks - all black except for the feather! It took 2 different stains to get the "purest" black we could... Thanks in advance for looking..

Here is a short video of things I have been working on over the last few weeks. They are for my last show of the season on December 17th. I spent a week, or so, cutting everything. As week, or so, sanding. And then another week, or so, finishing. Still have to get the shrink wrap on the puzzles. 20221204_141103.mp4

  7. I placed an order for a gross of blades Friday 12/2. Received them today 12/4. Tennessee to So Cal. Darned quick. And, because me last order with Denny was a set of Pegas clamps, I rec'd 6 dozen blades for free. Best service ever. Thanks Denny & crew.

  8. A few weeks ago I noticed that I wasn't getting any air out of my blower on my EX 16. I proceeded to open the plate on the bottom that holds the bellows in place. A piece of rubber fell out and it looked to have a whole. Oh my! I was long out of warranty and what to do. I had good luck working with Denny at Artcrafter and he contacted Pegas and was able to get me a bellows. It came today and I will install it this weekend. You are my go to guy! Thank you Denny,

    Tree of Life

Awesome, I might see if it is cuttable when I shrink it down to Kennedy coin size. I have another tree of life pattern I do, but it's a bit more involved, so this might be a good alternative. I attached the one I've been doing, cut on a kennedy. As you can see, it's a little nasty, even blown up. If you were to see that at actual size, the twigs are pin size.

  11. I made 18 of the small Nativities and about the same number of larger ones. On the larger, about half were natural and the others were painted flat white. The small ones have a hook for hanging and given to relatives as my annual handmade ornament. Some of the larger ones were used as table decor at a church luncheon and then became door prizes along with some angels. All patterns by Steve Good. 1/8" and 1/4" plywood.

The barn is MonkeyPod from Ocooch Hardwoods. It us usually very pretty and easy to cut. Kinda like a brown mahogany instead of reddish. The figures are maple. The pattern calls for the back piece of the barn to be cut open just like the front, but I thought not cutting it all out would give a background to show off the figurines better,

  21. I bought some of these 1/4 sheet pads Friday. I have not used them enough to talk about durability yet but these things really cut. I have used the 120 and 180 grit on Poplar boards and they leave almost a glass like finish at the 180 level. Might be worth a try if your are in the market. https://www.harborfreight.com/painting/painting-supplies/sandpaper-sheets/4-12-in-x-5-12-in-60-grit-14-sheet-sandpaper-with-ceramic-alumina-grain-5-pack-58136.html

  22. I began using HF 6x48 inch sanding belts maybe 3 years ago. I was rather impressed. I still buy Klingspor's Bargain Box paper offcuts and remnants every 2-3 years for smaller pieces, but I'll keep using the HF 6x48 belts unless I perceive that quality drops. Very satisfied. Don

  24. Hey everyone! In this fun scroll saw project video we make a beautiful Christmas Themed Candy Dish! This Steve Good design uses 1/4 & 1/8 inch material. This is a perfect project to make if you are learning tabbed designs and is also perfect for Traditional Christmas Candies! Hope you all like the video! #ArtisanPirate

  25. Finally finished. I found working with the red oak to be extremely difficult for achieving the lacquered finish on top. The three on the right are red oak with walnut inlay. The other 3 are white oak with Jaboba wood inlay. The interiors each contain a Pentel .5mm and .7mm "Quicker Clicker Pencils", spare lead for each, spare erasers for each plus a Staedler eraser and an eraser template held by a magnet in the cover.

  27. The Sleigh Image was a free downloadable zip file that included a SVG file which I was able to manipulate in Inkscape. I sized the image to fit within an oval I created (approximately 11 1/2” x 15 1/2”) that I cut from a piece of 1/2” x 12” x 16” sanded ply. The image was cut from 1/8” thick BB ply. The backer was painted white with Krylon rattle can paint. I used Artist Acrylics to paint the cut panel (originally image was only B&W) and the perimeter vertical edge of the backer. The assembled Plaque was protected with multiple coats of Clear Minwax Polycrylic finish. Just another Xmas decoration that will be stored away 11 months of the year. Comments and critiques welcome.

    Tree of Life

Rodney, I basically would cut from an outside corner, where the leaf tip met the rim, down until the leaf meets stem then back up and cut the rim to the other leaf tip then go from there. Kept me from making that turn that put the piece against the back of the saw.

  34. Personally, I have tried their sandpaper and gotten very inconsistent results. After spending a lot of time making and sanding something, I find it leaves a few odd scratches. Maybe on small things not an issue but on larger surfaces, it is a problem. Now, I use only Klingspor or Norton products. More expensive but better results.

  40. Here is my contribution to the Charlie Brown Christmas trees. I had a fun cutting these out. Cut them from 1/4 inch poplar. My sincere thanks to Barb Enders for leading me to Scrollercafe and more importantly how to navigate the web site. As an Air Force navigator one would think I would have no problem, my wife used to say I could find anyplace in the world, but couldn't get around in the city. Jerry

  41. Have had fun with these. All are Poplar cut with a combination of Pegasus #7 mg and #5 skip tooth. Dipped on 1 coat of clear Shellac and will get several coats of clear gloss Lacquer when dry. I think I will try one just a bit smaller than the smallest of these just for the fun of it. Both 2D and 3D.

    Shawl Pin

This was an easy project. My wife made herself a shawl and asked me to make a pin to keep it from slipping off. I found several ideas on Pinterest. I used the Snipping Tool to do a capture and printed a couple out. I taped one image to a window and put a clean piece of bond over it and traced the pattern. The stock is re-sawn oak from a pallet stringer that paper came on. The finish is mineral oil. As always thanks for reading.

  46. The true meaning of Christmas....I made the figurine set a few years ago(Steve Good Pattern), but never had a nativity barn to go with it, so I went to the scrap wood pile and came up with this, all made from scrap wood except roof made from 1/8" ply. Sorry I haven't been scroll sawing much.

    Gun Rack

My brother asked if I could make him a gun stand. Made out of hickory a three coats of Arm-R-Seal. The bullets are the first things I have turned. Always fun to do a project for family. About forgot the name plate is cut out of poplar.
