    Clock

Had this pattern for a while now, not sure why I hadn't cut it before. Can't recall who the pattern is by (name is not on the page) but I believe I got it out of the Pattern Library here. Had to fiddle around with the clock insert diameter to get the right size, but finally managed to get the hole to the size that would fit the clock insert I ordered from Amazon. Not a lot of interior cuts on this one, most of the time is spent on the exterior.

  3. These are two of Steve Good's patterns I cut for my grandchildren (trucks) and son and daughter (cross). I actually cut one other truck for another grandson but he is a little older and I plan to stain his rather than color. The colors or the other three grandchildren's favorite colors. I still have to glue and spray a finish. I plan on using Polyacrylic.

    Heart Tray

Steve Good recently issued a pattern for a Heart Tray. I had some Maple and Padauk boards left over from the Heart Box I made back last February (https://www.scrollsawvillage.com/forums/topic/45466-my-version-of-dave-monk%E2%80%99s-%E2%80%98box-for-valentines-day%E2%80%99/#comment-486165). I thought the Tray would make a good companion for the Box I gave my Lady. Was going to give it to her on Christmas but she saw and claimed it already. Laminated the Maple and Padauk making the tray walls 1 1/4” high. Stack cut the outside of laminated tray walls along with the 1/8” thick maple bottom first, then after removing the bottom, cut out the interior sections. Fairly easy cutting with Pegas #5 Skip tooth Blade. Lot of hand sanding creating the red dust everywhere. Attached bottom to walls with Superglue and applied multiple coats of Deft Clear Gloss Lacquer. Used the inside dropouts to trace and cut out the red felt bottom liner which I attached with spray adhesive. PITA to fit the sticky liner in its proper place. Comments and Critiques always welcome

    Coat Hanger

I think it's been 83 years since I last posted some work. I did this on a whim. The deer silhouette is walnut finished in BLO/MS mix and the antler is from a white-tailed deer. I plan to use button pegs to cover the screws. Sorry for the crappy photo, I'm out of practice.

Finally finished. Jim Blume pattern on 3/8 willow live edge, ripped in half and bookmarked. Double stack with 1/8 BB ply 1445 cuts with mainly #1 Niqua spiral blade. Measures 18 X 27 inches. Thanks for the "insane" pattern Jim.

  9. Thought of what might help. There should be a "Thanks for Joining and site information" message sent automatically as soon as a new member sighs up. The information would include what is available in on the site and how to find it, like the forums, the resources and the university. Might save some heartache for new people. Just a thought. We all know Travis is not busy enough!

  10. Hey Everyone! In this scroll saw project video I make an amazing Fretwork Christmas Tree that slots together for easy assembly and storage! This Steve Good Design uses 1/4 inch material and can be finished in a variety of ways. Hope you all like the video and Merry Christmas! #ArtisanPirate

  11. Neighbor 's son has a fetish for late 40's Chevy pickup. Quick project. He'll get it tomorrow. I'll be doing more lurking than working the next several weeks. Tuesday I'm going in for major back surgery (MIS Tlif) and will need about 3 months to recover. Hope to be able to drive again after a few weeks. Garage/Shop has been a little cold lately anyway.

If you're not familiar with the caption I put under it you need to watch the Saturday Night Live clip I attached. If only to understand why that guy at the concert keeps yelling, "More Cowbell!"

  13. Hope this brings a smile to your face like it does mine. Not so much because of the movie, though I do enjoy watching it each year, but for the memories. I got my first BB gun for Christmas, probably at around 9-10 years old. That morning my dad and I leaned a tall cardboard box against the bathroom door and did some target practice. When he moved the box the door had BB dents all over it. This was in the days before houses were worshiped so the dents stayed there till we moved. When my son got his, around the same age, I told him I was getting it for him but not to tell mom. Of course she knew it but I'm fairly sure he bought it. When he opened it of course she said, "You'll shoot your eye out!" Thankfully that never happened but he did shoot the bathroom window out. Personally, I don't remember shooting anything out, but my next door neighbor did shoot my tooth out with his.

  15. I have been doing patterns from Sheila Landry/Keith Fenton for a while and have always really liked them. I recently had a customer want a project based on one of their designs with some of the words changed. Now I can muddle through Inkscape well enough to make the change but not to a point where I am happy with it. I reached out to Keith and he quoted a price (less than I expected) and was able to send me the revised pattern the same day. Great customer service, great patterns. Thank you, Keith!

  16. Finally finished. I found working with the red oak to be extremely difficult for achieving the lacquered finish on top. The three on the right are red oak with walnut inlay. The other 3 are white oak with Jaboba wood inlay. The interiors each contain a Pentel .5mm and .7mm "Quicker Clicker Pencils", spare lead for each, spare erasers for each plus a Staedler eraser and an eraser template held by a magnet in the cover.

Only been scrolling for about 6 months. Started on a $5 garage sale Craftsman that I added pinless adapters and an aquarium air pump as a dust blower. Just recently purchased the Wen. It's like going from an old VW Beatle to a fully loaded high end Suburban.

  25. I made 18 of the small Nativities and about the same number of larger ones. On the larger, about half were natural and the others were painted flat white. The small ones have a hook for hanging and given to relatives as my annual handmade ornament. Some of the larger ones were used as table decor at a church luncheon and then became door prizes along with some angels. All patterns by Steve Good. 1/8" and 1/4" plywood.

  26. We do our best to talk customers out of coloring our products simply because what they envision and what the wood will take are often 2 different things. Water items, no problem since we do lots of them. Green pasture, no problem we do lots of them. However once in awhile we get an "unshakeable" customer and no matter what we say, they are adamant in their color scheme... This then is one of those customers. The "Matt Pan" shadow with Bronze hooks - all black except for the feather! It took 2 different stains to get the "purest" black we could... Thanks in advance for looking..

  29. Thanks, Jerry. The oak used to make these was harvested and rough-sawn to 8/4 dimensions by the my father-in-law - the kid's great grandfather. I used tools inherited by their other great grandfathers and their great great grandfather. The note in the box goes into all of that so there are some unique details I hope they will appreciate.

  33. Those are simply beautiful Bruce. This is a gift that will be cherished forever by your grandchildren. I remember when I was 9 or 10 years old my grandparents gave me a Sheaffer ink pen and pencil set. Don't think ball points were invented then. I know longer have the pen or pencil, but I do still have the bottle of ink the came with it. I remember too, the pencil used thin lead. Now in my 80's and remember how excited I was. Jerry

I used pencils and one of those metal erasing shields for many years in my engineering carreer until the pencils were replaced by computers.. Didn't need to use it on a PC screen .

  37. We are at the stage in our life that we do not have any idea what to give our kids and grandkids so we give them all money. Similar to Gift Card holders but the slot is a little bigger and I wanted to personalize. The family is up to 9. Sprayed with rattle can and my wife added stickers. That is Cdn money showing.

    Hangers for pictures

For hanging most things, I use two small nails inserted in the wall an appropriate distance apart and positioned vertically with a level. The heads of the nails are left protruding slightly and catch on the lip of the frame. The thin heads will dig into the frame slightly, keeping it from sliding off. For lighter items, I have used straight pins. They never need to be adjusted, and they never fall off. It is cheap, and you never need to adjust. I have been hanging framed items using this method for about 40 years.

    Hangers for pictures

Nobody stated the most important reason to use sawtooth hangers for scroll saw portraits and plaques. They keep the work almost flat against the wall where the wire hanger method tilts the work. Tilting is OK for paintings and such, but for proper viewing of scroll saw portraits and plaques, they should be viewed straight on, vertically flat to the wall, and hung about eye level, to be best enjoyed. Also, I have not found any of my work, even up to 18"x 24 and framed, to be too heavy for just one small drive in saw tooth hanger and the piece hung on the wall with just a small headed 3/4" long brad. And, generally plaques made of cuttings mounted on 1/2" ply or solid wood are not very heavy either and one sawtooth hanger works well. For some of the same reasons, I only cut my portrait work in 1/8" thick material that is mounted on a 1/4" backer for rigidity. I find the visability of the vertically cut edges in work cut in thicker materials is very distracting, especially when viewed from any vantage other than straight on. A quick edit: If I was to make a large heavy cutting (like maybe a wall hanging sculptured piece), my choice for a hanger would be the French Cleat. Keeps work nearly flat to wall, easy to plumb, available in many sizes, and is very strong.
