    I’m back

Hi all. Been away for awhile due to health issues but like a cat I’m back and back to scrolling as well. Retired last July at the age of 70. God the time goes by fast. I would imagine there’s a lot of new scrollers on line and hopefully there are many of my old friends still on as well. I’ll post some of my recent work soon. You all take care and have your selves a Very, Very Merry Christmas. Ron

Well I know it has been awhile since I have been to the Village. I have had some Health issues that has kept me away. I hope they are all behind me now, keeping my fingers crossed. I saw this Jeep on a visit to Harbor Freight, I bought it really enjoyed putting it together. That inspired me to look for more on the net, I came across several. The Wright Flyer was a Challenge, had to do a few modifications, the thickness of the wood was different I was using was thicker than the pattern, the Butterfly was no problem, I was Great being back in my shop.

    Heart Coaster

This is a gift for Dianne Arnquist Knappen. The pattern is by Charles Hand and found in the book "Circular Scroll Saw Designs". I used 1/2" Hard Maple 4" square. Cut on the Pegas Scroll Saw using Pegas #1 MGT blades. I sell Pegas supplies online at: artcraftersonline.com. The finish is dipping in diluted Shellac and the one coat spray Lacquer Clear Satin. Comments welcome.

  5. I had some left over cherry scraps so I cut and planed them to 1/8" and stack-cut them. A great way to use up scrap! I put this pattern into the pattern section if anyone wants to cut it. Bruce

  7. We did a gift exchange at work for about 20 of us. This was a virtual meeting on computers. The concept was to order from Amazon and keep it under $35. But I am a non-conformist. I said I would make something. The company logo is a Big R, and our brand is a light bulb "iwatt" is the brand. Notice the "iw" as the filiament in the bulb. We design integrated circuits (chips). I obtained some silicon wafers and cut a small circle that fits inside the light bulb. Inliad "yellow heart" into "purple heart". I still need to put a finish on it.

  11. My Brother Barry moved here from Denver at the beginning of September. He is also a woodworker. This is our first joint project. I did the scrolling and he did the frames and finishing. I wish I could make frames 1/4 the quality that he does. I couldn't decide which photo I liked best so here are both of them.

  12. I recently had major issues with my Excalibur EX21. One of the symptoms was excessive breakage of #2 blades. I wanted to test to see if the blade breakage problem was fixed, and I wanted to practice/learn to cut thin stock. I had some 6mm reclaimed plywood I could use for this. Most of it was luan, plus a couple of pieces of mystery plywood. I knew going in that most of it would not pass QA inspection due to splintering, veneer peeling, and voids, but this did not matter since. Much to my surprise, some of the pieces were good. Less than 20% of the ornaments made it past my QA Inspection, and a few didn't pass once the photos were made. I cut 36 pieces. Yes, I know I can stack cut ornaments, but in my shop, I often need a single small part cut from thin material, and I do not want the extras to be kept from hanging around, taking up storage space. Besides, I need help finding the extras when I need them later. These are the ones I considered keepers. Not perfect but under normal room lighting I can't see the defects.

  14. Hey Everyone! In my final scroll saw project video of the year, I make this beautiful Merry Christmas Scene of Santa Delivering Presents! This is a Steve Good design and uses wrapping paper (or an image) in a unique way to make the background. Thank you for all the support this year and I look forward to making more videos in the new year! Hope you all like the video, Merry Christmas! #ArtisanPirate

    Old horse

I am a little late on this one. It was made 36+ years ago now for my oldest grandson's 1st birthday. Neighbor had given me the pattern. Made from purchased pine. Cut on one of the old tin-Dremels, that I had bought used! Strained the saw- cutting the rockers as a pair -- I remember a lot of sanding and filing away to get it even close to useable. The picture is after a factory rebuild in the 90's sometime. It had sat outside through a couple of CA rainy winters because of space for storage issues at the time. I now build much better rocking toys. Second picture is alpaca that i made about 2 years ago. I do have much better tools now and the difference shows on close examination. I might even be a little more skilled at cutting also. IMG_2246.CR2 IMG_2245.CR2 IMG_2245.CR2 IMG_2246.CR2

    Clock

Had this pattern for a while now, not sure why I hadn't cut it before. Can't recall who the pattern is by (name is not on the page) but I believe I got it out of the Pattern Library here. Had to fiddle around with the clock insert diameter to get the right size, but finally managed to get the hole to the size that would fit the clock insert I ordered from Amazon. Not a lot of interior cuts on this one, most of the time is spent on the exterior.

  22. A client commissioned me to make this box for her son for Christmas. The family is from Scotland where they still have family. The son started college at OU. An uncle that lives in Scotland made the young man the OU from a tree that was in their yard. My client wanted me it incorporate it into the box. From there her son transferred to the Louisiana Warhawks where he was a was their football kicker. He has since graduated and my client was wanting it to put the memorabilia she had collected during his college career. Box measures 15 1/2 x 12 1/2 x 8. Wood used maple, Peruvian walnut, padauk, sapele, and tigerwood.

  25. So you get your new planer and discover you can now produce all thickness ...... and sawdust......lots of sawdust......ankle deep sawdust. My next purchase was a huge central vac system - the largest I could run on a 30 amp circuit....... All kidding aside the planer is a terrific addition to the shop when combined with a decent band saw for rough sawing stock. I truly love 8/4 stock as it gives you so many options. Hoping Santa comes through for you! Merry Christmas!

    Small(ish) Puzzle

Sweet. I love spider wort when it's blooming. I need to make more jigsaw puzzles. Carter Johnson (deceased) use to make puzzles from postage stamps. There were 9 pieces on a first class stamp. The whole puzzle fit into a match box.

  36. Been Scrolling over 20 years. This is a Hole reply. I did use to drill all holes first. Now I do not. I find Sectioning off the Pattern and only drill them holes. Like One Pattern and say 4 different little parts. Gives me a break from sitting behind the saw. Anyway this is my 13 cents worth and I am sticking to it. Hehe:+}

  38. Ornaments sell poorly for me, too. My ornaments sell very slowly. The competition is fierce. A search on Etsy for "Christmas Ornament" returns 2,366,961. Add to this; you are also competing with all the commercially produced ornaments.

  44. I have been sanding the wood to 220 before applying the pattern. Makes final finishing easier. Be patient. It is not a race. Don't be overly critical - only you see the "flaws". No one else does.

    Well I'll be .....

Thanks ...I originally bought it as a second saw as I have a hawk, but after doing a test cut on it I found it so much easier to follow the line and just move my hands around .... I've been busy today but tomorrow I'm hoping to make a stand for it and give it a real test run to see if it wasn't just a fluke ..
