  1. My 3 grandkids all like Jack Skellington, from A Nightmare Before Christmas. We had a night of Christmas light looking, cookie making and such so I cut out ornaments of Jack and let them put them together. Awesome night!

This is a gift for Dianne Arnquist Knappen. The pattern is by Charles Hand and found in the book "Circular Scroll Saw Designs". I used 1/2" Hard Maple 4" square. Cut on the Pegas Scroll Saw using Pegas #1 MGT blades. I sell Pegas supplies online at: artcraftersonline.com. The finish is dipping in diluted Shellac and the one coat spray Lacquer Clear Satin. Comments welcome.

    My Latest

Well I know it has been awhile since I have been to the Village. I have had some Health issues that has kept me away. I hope they are all behind me now, keeping my fingers crossed. I saw this Jeep on a visit to Harbor Freight, I bought it really enjoyed putting it together. That inspired me to look for more on the net, I came across several. The Wright Flyer was a Challenge, had to do a few modifications, the thickness of the wood was different I was using was thicker than the pattern, the Butterfly was no problem, I was Great being back in my shop.

  11. Hey everyone! Glad to be part of the village . I have a question. A guy I follow on Etsy and YouTube cuts beautiful patterns, but uses 3mm laminated high density fiberboard. I've been looking, haven't been able to find where to purchase it. I usually work with 1/8" birch, but the finishing portion with sanding, staining, and varnishing is kind of a pain at times. Does anyone have suggestions for HDF? Photo of one my very first project attached from last year at Christmas. I've gotten a bit better now.

  12. It is a new and highly valued currency known as IRW (I Remember When). It is best coined by grandparents who feed time, effort and love into the mix to form lasting memories that will be treasured by their grandchildren long after they, the grandparents, are gone. Well Done! Merry Christmas, Charlie.

  15. A client commissioned me to make this box for her son for Christmas. The family is from Scotland where they still have family. The son started college at OU. An uncle that lives in Scotland made the young man the OU from a tree that was in their yard. My client wanted me it incorporate it into the box. From there her son transferred to the Louisiana Warhawks where he was a was their football kicker. He has since graduated and my client was wanting it to put the memorabilia she had collected during his college career. Box measures 15 1/2 x 12 1/2 x 8. Wood used maple, Peruvian walnut, padauk, sapele, and tigerwood.

  17. I recently had major issues with my Excalibur EX21. One of the symptoms was excessive breakage of #2 blades. I wanted to test to see if the blade breakage problem was fixed, and I wanted to practice/learn to cut thin stock. I had some 6mm reclaimed plywood I could use for this. Most of it was luan, plus a couple of pieces of mystery plywood. I knew going in that most of it would not pass QA inspection due to splintering, veneer peeling, and voids, but this did not matter since. Much to my surprise, some of the pieces were good. Less than 20% of the ornaments made it past my QA Inspection, and a few didn't pass once the photos were made. I cut 36 pieces. Yes, I know I can stack cut ornaments, but in my shop, I often need a single small part cut from thin material, and I do not want the extras to be kept from hanging around, taking up storage space. Besides, I need help finding the extras when I need them later. These are the ones I considered keepers. Not perfect but under normal room lighting I can't see the defects.

I didn't follow a tutorial or know of one. I made the pattern and just figured it out myself. If you are interested in trying it message me and I will try to explain it to you.

  28. Welcome to the Village. I've get laminated wood from Lowe's but it's just less than 1/4-inch. The Birch and Oak is layered where the Maple is veneer to an unknown filler, possibly some type of wood. I haven't found any 1/8-inch wood at the Lowe's in my area.

  32. I used to make mine, but found that the amount of time spent on making decent looking wheels, could be better spent elsewhere. I started purchasing them by the 100's. These prices make it much more profitable to purchase. I also bought axles (Pegs) and lot's of other bits and pieces. https://www.craftparts.com/product-category/toy-wheels/wood-toy-wheels/

  34. I wouldn't hesitate for a second taking and using this machine. Looks like a 19", belt driven and maybe adjustable speeds by moving the belt to a different size of pulley. I'm thinking early 90's. Once tuned up it'll run forever. Beautiful and well made machines.

  35. I purchase my wheels and toy accessories in large lots. Like some I will make my own if size is not available. Manufactured wheels seem to add that special look and finish and making 100 or more I find to be too tedious. I've had no problem capturing the extras cost of the wheels. Thank you. Ron

  48. I buy most of my wheels in large lots if I use as many as 1000 at a time. Some of my toys use 18 wheels and it doesn't take long to go through a 1000 wheels. At one time, I made all of my wheels. Now, I only make them when I am going for a particular look or commercially made wheels are not available for the project. I usually batch them out when I make wheels, making many more than I need. I am very picky when making wheels; having them all perfectly round and exactly the same size is important to me. I have an extensive collection of hole saws I purchased explicitly for cutting wheels. I rarely use the hole saws anymore, finding cutting them with the scroll saw to be more convenient, versatile, and faster. When I purchase wheels I buy them from Craft Parts/Woodworks Ltd.
