  1. Here is my attempt at an intarsia project. I have done segmentation but this was "technically" intarsia, even though it was cut from the same wood. The wood is black ash, which I received from a friend - it was in his burn bin!! The wood is about 3/4" thick. Used a Flying Dutchman #3 full reverse. Finished with the Beeswax "Butter" that I got as a hostess gift. It is not completely finished. I want to put another coat or two of the wax on and then I have to attach the backer, but I thought is was close enough to post here. There are certainly "happy accidents" but if you can't see them I won't tell you where they are!!! I love the grain of the wood and thought it lent itself well to the project. Comments & critiques are welcome.

  2. My Brother Barry has taken an interest in scroll sawing. He came over yesterday and cut his first piece. He was worried about his fingers being so close to the blade. I told him not to worry about it since all his right hand fingers have already been cut off. LOL

    Clock

Had this pattern for a while now, not sure why I hadn't cut it before. Can't recall who the pattern is by (name is not on the page) but I believe I got it out of the Pattern Library here. Had to fiddle around with the clock insert diameter to get the right size, but finally managed to get the hole to the size that would fit the clock insert I ordered from Amazon. Not a lot of interior cuts on this one, most of the time is spent on the exterior.

  8. KJP select had them, and I already bought two of their multi packs. Thank you, Don! I did see the project boards at Home Depot and Lowes, but I needed larger sizes for this specific project I want to make. I'll post pictures later on. This is such a cool community! Very excited to be a part of it. Thanks! Jess

  9. Where are you located? You will get better answers to questions like this with a location in your profile. I have bought what is called craft boards from KJP Select Hardwood in Ottawa Ontario. Super company to deal with and they do ship to the US and with a 25% discount on the CDN to US$ it pays for any additional charges in shipping. There is a video that explains the 1/8 is veneered HDF. https://youtu.be/6InobwcKBY4 I have some 1/4 but have not tried yet.

  10. My 3 grandkids all like Jack Skellington, from A Nightmare Before Christmas. We had a night of Christmas light looking, cookie making and such so I cut out ornaments of Jack and let them put them together. Awesome night!

    Cow Phone holder

Made from scrap-maple (I think) and walnut. Identifying wood species is not my strong suit, sorry. One of my granddaughters likes cows. When I found out, I decided to make a cow phone holder as the modern young adults seem permanently attached to their phones. The design is by T & E designs after some internet image research. Cut on the King 21" --sorry, I do not know the blade #. I do know it is an Olsen blade though. The walnut base is from some tree parts I had bought and then slabbed out on a bandsaw. The face was freehand burned in with a pen type wood burner. Then finished with about 4 coats of marine varnish, because I had it open. I actually I only drew 1/2 of the pattern as I had folded it over to the middle. I then cut it out with a scissor and used a red pen to mark it on my wood. I use red pen all the time as it makes it much easier to see the blade as I cut. It is 6-1/2 inches tall 4-1/2 wide and 4 deep. I also put felt feet on the bottom so it will not scratch. I am anxious to see how she likes it.

  12. I had some left over cherry scraps so I cut and planed them to 1/8" and stack-cut them. A great way to use up scrap! I put this pattern into the pattern section if anyone wants to cut it. Bruce

  16. Hey everyone! Glad to be part of the village . I have a question. A guy I follow on Etsy and YouTube cuts beautiful patterns, but uses 3mm laminated high density fiberboard. I've been looking, haven't been able to find where to purchase it. I usually work with 1/8" birch, but the finishing portion with sanding, staining, and varnishing is kind of a pain at times. Does anyone have suggestions for HDF? Photo of one my very first project attached from last year at Christmas. I've gotten a bit better now.

    Dewalt Scroll Saw

I don’t know if it makes any difference in the Dewalt. The Excalibur 21 Manufactured in Taiwan was said to be better than the one made in China. The Dewalt I just purchased from Amazon was made in Taiwan.

  48. Welcome to the Village. I've get laminated wood from Lowe's but it's just less than 1/4-inch. The Birch and Oak is layered where the Maple is veneer to an unknown filler, possibly some type of wood. I haven't found any 1/8-inch wood at the Lowe's in my area.
