  2. Just had to do some Christmasy at the last of the season. Something fun to make. And as an added bonus, if you don't use tape and apply the pattern directly to the wood, you get this neat picture to past to the shop door! HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A JOYOUS CHRISTMAS.. BE SAFE LOOKS LIKE A LOT OF PLACES ARE HAVE SNOW..

    Elephant Puzzle

This is an Elephant puzzle made for Grandkids. I enjoy shaping puzzle pieces and then adding a suitable background.

  4. These are two more of the puzzles I made for the Grandkids. The Giraffes were made from Quarter sawn Sycamore. I wish that I had shaped the Giraffes but the Grandkids love the puzzle. The T Rex puzzle was one of my favorites with the tree and volcanoes in the background. The Giraffes and T Rex are designs from Judy and Dave Peterson. I have made many of their puzzles for the Grandkids.

Just came across these drawings of Gnomes. I am sure they would not take much to make in to patterns.

What are you using to blow off your saw? Compressed air from a good air compressor should blow off most dust. If you want to detail your saw, I recommend an old-fashioned saving brush and a vacuum with a small nozzle.

  9. Here is my attempt at an intarsia project. I have done segmentation but this was "technically" intarsia, even though it was cut from the same wood. The wood is black ash, which I received from a friend - it was in his burn bin!! The wood is about 3/4" thick. Used a Flying Dutchman #3 full reverse. Finished with the Beeswax "Butter" that I got as a hostess gift. It is not completely finished. I want to put another coat or two of the wax on and then I have to attach the backer, but I thought is was close enough to post here. There are certainly "happy accidents" but if you can't see them I won't tell you where they are!!! I love the grain of the wood and thought it lent itself well to the project. Comments & critiques are welcome.

    Equipment Cleaning

Use a vacuum cleaner that has a fine filter, for small particulates, otherwise the vacuum cleaner itself is just blowing the dust into the air where (as NC Scroller said).

    Equipment Cleaning

Vacuum before you blow to get the most off. Blowing just puts the dust back into the air to be filtered by your poor lungs and to settle back down where it came from.

Thanks Paul. Cutting the paws I tilted the table to the right 2 degrees and cut counter clock wise. For the nails table was tilted to the right 1 degree and again cut counter clock wise. Then glue all pieces in and round off. Doing this process will vary according to thickness of wood so it’s best to practice on a piece of scrap first. Thank you. PS I should mention when drilling a hole for blade I used a bit just big enough for a #3 blade. Drill the hole on the line tilted to the right same angle as your table.

  22. Just a few more. The big R has a story behind it. 7 years ago before life got really crazy for a while I made all the family one of these ornaments each. That was the year that my son's first child was born so he got an ornament. Fast forward 7 years when his Mom was decorating the tree this year he wanted to know why his little brother didn't have an ornament. His dad explained that when Pap made them Rylan wasn't around. That was not acceptable so he called me wanting to know if I could fix Rylan an ornament. Any how Steve Goods pattern Poplar wood Olsen 2/0 crown tooth blades. The Snoopy is for my Grandson and Scooby Do Is for my Wife. Patterns are coloring pages from the internet that had bridges added with a White Out pen. Same setup Poplar and 2/0 Olsen. The dinosaurs are thanks to @don in brooklin on I may have misappropriated the patterns that were posted for someone else. Same wood and blade setup. The snowflake stars etc are from the ornament for Charity book Same setup. The humming bird is Sheila Landry patter. Same wood and blades. In case you haven't figured it out yet I really like cutting Poplar wood. Last but not least the final (I think) Initial ornaments. Cedar wood #5 Pegasus skip tooth blades. Everything is straight off the saw with no finish yet Several will be shipped to Arizona raw so that my Grandson and His mother can finish as they see fit. Commits or criticism welcome.

  27. Great job, Barb. I have yet to get the courage to try intarsia yet. Plus, about the only wood that I have that isn't pine is plywood. Finding various hardwoods in my rural area is difficult. I'm in the process of selling some musical equipment and with the fund from that I plan to upgrade my scroll saw and purchase a bandsaw capable of doing resawing. Then I can make some of my own solid wood. Lots of cedar on my land as well as various oaks and hickory. Waiting for it to dry will be the hardest part.

    Where Is Everyone?

Note the humidity. It is at 99% shortly after it gets dark and doesn't come down below 90% until afternoon. It's like that most of the year. I don't think it is cold until the water starts freezing.

    Where Is Everyone?

I never really post anymore, but do my "like" thing nearly every day Since I am mostly making puzzles and the like these days, I figure everyone has pretty much seen them from others so need for me to bore anyone. I do post when I have something not puzzle related though but that has become very rare these days Anyway, still here, still doing our Saturday market and still working through puzzles, wall hangers and more Thanks for asking LOL
