    The Tomb

Spent a couple hours this morning designing my version of "The Tomb", with the 3 crosses of Calvary, made from 3/4" standard pine, just free-handed the pieces on some thin boards for templates, then traced the templates to the pines boards, then cut each piece out, then took each piece to the spindle sander and contoured the edge of each piece to give a carved look, stained red mahogany and early American, glued all 4 layers together to make it 3" thick and stand very solid.......comments always welcomed. This was a gift for my mom for Easter this year.

    tree with a twist

Hi everyone, just finished this tree that Fish was kind enough to put in the pattern library for us. Thanks Fish. I did it a little different. I burnt the heart and initials in instead of cutting them. Thought it might look a little more realistic. There was a lot of blade changes in this pattern. I have a couple more to do.This one is for my granddaughter.

  6. Two non-puzzles finished. Patterns by Harvy Blyer. I used 3/4" Poplar approximately 8" square. Cut on the Pegas scroll saw using Pegas #3 MGT and #5 MGT for the veining. After sanding, dipped in diluted Shellac. Comments welcome

  8. Hi, I'm Bill, I was away from woodworking and hobbies for a period of time. Life has a funny way of directing and changing our paths. This past holiday season my wife found a used oldie on FB Marketplace. For $75 on the stand. I couldn't pass it up. I'm not sure if it was used much at all. Before I had an old craftsman pinned blade version and I used it for cutting parts for RC airplanes. Between my eyes and other things, I can't fly RC's or parachutes anymore. I decided to give this a go. I'm hooked. I'm going to have to get a better saw though. Feeding these pinless blades through a hole and keeping them from bending is a challenge without an articulating arm. I enclosed the porch and use a buddy heater to have a place to work. We live tiny and so I don't have a work area. It's comfortable though and I enjoy it for hours at a time. Some nights it's just too cold, but all in all it's enjoyable. I am really enjoying basic stuff, but can see wanting to really learn Intarsia and portrait type stuff. ~BK PS, HUGE Thank you to Travis for creating a dark theme so that I can see and participate. It's nice that there are still kind people left in this world.

    Bauer tools

The innerweb seems kind of vague on this subject. Most sites just parrot the same press release info you get on Harbor Freight's website. Near as I can tell, HF contracts with several manufacturers, probably in China. Those same production lines likely make tools for other brands. They may well be independent subcontractors and not necessarily owned or operated by one of the major tool brands.

I'll be calling it Halloween mode. Spooky! Well, OK, Casper and Wendy aren't spooky, but I'll still call it Halloween mode.

    Dark Theme Mode?

I went ahead and created a dark theme for you. If you go to the bottom of the screen, click Theme and choose Dark. Anybody can use this theme. I just have to make sure all of the settings are the same between the two themes. I think I got them, but I guess time will tell. Let me know if something isn't behaving the way it should.

  15. New wolf pattern, I plan to make several such patterns (silhuette of animal with scene inside). I made two variants: silhuette and framed, as an example added colored variant. Which one do you like more? And one more question: If you need black color how do you get it? Paint, stain or something else? Pattern at https://www.etsy.com/shop/AlexFoxUA

    Bauer tools

If you watch closely a lot of HF tools have multiple part numbers for the same tool; usually with no difference or very subtle differences. Its quite likely they spec a tool and whatever outfit can build it to spec most cheaply for a particular run gets the contract.

  18. Hey Everyone! In my first scroll saw project video of 2023, I cut out this beautiful Knights Shield! Over Christmas break I watched a ton of Documentaries on Kings & Queens and Castles and it totally fascinated me and I wanted to make a project to reflect it. This Steve Good design uses 1/4 inch material. Hope you all like the video! #ArtisanPirate

    Dust Pump

Kevin (kmmcrafts) First and most important. What classic cars? Regarding the Festool tools. I won a raffle and for a $10 ticket I won a Festool track saw with track. That gave me a taste. Festool briefly had a RO sander for sale @ $99 I put it on my Christmas list. But they disappeared almost instantly Santa brought me the ETS 125 RO sander. The next day I ordered a Festool MIDI HEPA vac. Absolutely amazing quiet and when not in use with the RO it is connected to my Scrollsaw. It is not great for general shop cleanup! I still have a shop vac for the big stuff with the drywall bags in it. I also have a central dust collector Jet Vortex with the Canister filter 86% of 1 micron particles; 98% of 2 micron particles. an absolute must for me since I do Intarsia.

  25. John, I have similar problems, so the dusting of my dragon clock became "my problem" as soon as I brought it into the house. Every few months I get "warned", and I have to take it out to the shop and blow it off with the compressed air gun. I usually also wipe the easy to get to surface parts with a soft towel too. For my cross, I don't get the same treatment. She likes it, so she takes care of it, though I usually do the same with it whenever I decide that it needs cleaning. The cross is attached below. I only made the one dragon, but I have made 16 of the crosses, and all of them went to family and distant family except for two, since I still have the last one partially finished in the shop. They each take about 12 hours to make. This one in the photo is actually the first one that I made, and my wife claimed it as soon as it was shown to her. I cut them out on my scroll saw, but then use a modified dentist drill and 1/16" dental bits to carve the leaves and vines. It's all cut from one piece of mahogany. Antique Gold Rub-N-Buff was applied to the leaves, then Tung Oil was applied to the whole cross. I made one of the 16 from white oak, and I wasn't happy with how it carved, so the rest are all mahogany. On one of them I coated the cross itself with gold Run-N-Buff, as well as finish the rest of the cross the same as the others. This gold cross was the only "out of family gift" of them. It went to a very special minister friend who had helped me get through, and then recover from, my major heart surgery 23 years ago, and I didn't even know him before that. He was an amazing person who had also been through the same heart surgery, and then lived to see his 90th birthday. Charley

    BLO

There really is nothing sacred about the ratio. a 50/50 mix will help the BLO soak into the wood a bit, but so will 40/60 or 60/40. I typically use BLO full strength. I've gotten the results I wanted without thinning and without extra applications. Anyone should feel free to customize the blend however suits their needs.

  36. Work in progress on Steve Good Valentine's Day pattern. I still need to paint them. The wood is 1/2" Ambrosia Maple left over from a previous project. As others have said, I have cut many of his patterns and they are a big part of what got me addicted to this marvelous hobby.

  38. Biplane cut from Luan plywood. My grandson wanted this and the Luan was the only thing I had available. I figure it would be broken in short order but it is still going after more than a year. It is surprisingly strong.

    Seyco ST-21

I've been away from scroll saw work for several years and decided to get involved again. I was using a Hawk26 by RBI when I left. I thought I would go back to RBI until I read reviews about the new models and the minor issues addressed. To change things up, I bought a Seyco 21 and could not be happier! I did find that not only had scroll saws changed over the years but, the quality of blades now available are light years ahead of the blades available when I left the world of scroll sawing. I bought a sample pack of premium blades and had to relearn some of the techniques I use to accomplish what I want for a finished product.
