  1. An Alex Fox pattern he lists as C12. I used 1/4" Baltic Birch plywood 10" square. Cut on the Pegas scroll saw using Pegas #1 MGT blades. After gluing, two coats of spray Lacquer clear gloss. Comments welcome.

  4. I also purchased one for my floor drill press and it worked pretty good. I will exaggerate bit wobble if the arbor and bit are slightly off center. I have now gone to the Dremel tool with the plunge router attachment. It works much like the Seyco Scroller's Drill. I've heard a few say you can break a bit using my setup because of the play in the plunge router but I haven't experienced that. I try to keep the plunger shafts on the router attachment lubed and when I press down to drill the hole, I always use both hands on the router to make sure I'm pressing straight.

  5. I had the same trouble until I started using this adapter with my full size drill press. Holds the small number bits without a problem to drill inside entry holes.

    Latest 3 Bowls

Here re my latest bowls. The odd shaped one is a Steve Good Patter. The others are patterns that I did on the computer. The orangesh oak bowl is the finest bowl I have ever made and my favorite so far. All the angles turned out great and there was very minimal sanding.

  10. Hello all, I recently purchased this set of 16 stencils from Amazon to make trivets and coasters. They are about 6 inches square and made from a thin flexible plastic, you can attach them to a piece of paper then using a fine pen or pencil simply draw around the cut outs in the stencil and this will give you your pattern for scrolling. The method I use however is to place a piece of dark card behind the stencil and then scan it on my printer. I can then print of the design at whichever size I wish. The second picture is one I am making at the moment. Hope this gives some of you some ideas for trivets and coasters. Regards, Alan.

Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac. The pattern is in the library but I added a few strands of hair as I cut it. Listened to her music as I cut. Brought back some good memories. *Added some feathers to give her a little more attitude.

  13. Same here, that adapter works well in my desktop drill press. I think my bit is a (ahem) bit off-centered, but if I put the end on the piece where I need to drill, then start the drill, it puts a hole where I need it and I've been using the same drill bit for a year or more now.

I have a couple of those mounted to the ceiling joists above my saw. One is aimed from the left and one from the right, eliminating shadows. It works really well for me. They are up and out of the way and don't vibrate with the saw.

I've been doing the same thing for a couple years now. Only use the wearable magnifer for the really small, tight patterns.

    New take on a hold

I bought a pair of small magnetized LED sewing machine lights. Goose necked and light weight. One on either side of the arm makes for no shadows. For magnification, I use a wearable magnifier, like a pair of glasses, with flip up lenses. Being wearable, there's nothing to adjust when you move your viewing angle.

  20. That fixed it. If you search "All" of Amazon for "Reusable Stencils" You will find lots of stencils that could be used for scroll saw projects.

There are many ways to light up your saw. You have to find what works for you. One of these mounted on your saw will work. These lamps are cheap, and if you use an LED bulb, it can be very bright and not generate heat to amount to anything. I have one clamped to the back of my saw. They cost around $20.

I have sewing machine lights on my EX-21 for more than a year. As far as I can tell they are not causing a problem. They don't weigh much.

  26. I would say that they would be great for a serious inlayer type of person. I did some inlay using a regular sized router and a 1/4" flat bottomed bit. I would have been so much easier with one of these and a Dremel. Did you go to Veritas and watch the videos?

  27. For my needs, this looks nice and seems a medium price point. I don't need the rails and things with the broader kit. $94 is easier for me to bite off than $199. https://www.leevalley.com/en-us/shop/tools/power-tool-accessories/router-accessories/101544-veritas-plunge-base-for-rotary-tools?item=05J6501 The mini tools line: https://www.leevalley.com/en-us/tools/brand/veritas/miniature-tools What are those used for? i've never seen such tools. Had NO idea the existed. They appear to be serious tool though. So I assume there is a market. What are people making with these?

  30. Thank you for your service brother. My last civilian flying was as a Capt in CAP. I was doing cadet O rides. That was a lot of fun. It was at that airport that I was introduced to skydiving. My hearing is damaged, but nothing close to what you have going on. I have some ringing most all the time. The VA was in the process of getting me into hearing aids when COVID started. It’s been paused for a bit now. Eventually I will do it. Kinda resistant and stubborn.

Now you're talking! I've always liked her music and she has always been quite the looker.. even now that she is a bit older. One of the best female voices ever. Leather and Lace with Don Henley (one of the best male voices ever) is a killer song.

You know, with a little more cable some pulleys you could make a foot peddle you push down to raise the arm, and release to lower the the arm.

    The Tomb

Spent a couple hours this morning designing my version of "The Tomb", with the 3 crosses of Calvary, made from 3/4" standard pine, just free-handed the pieces on some thin boards for templates, then traced the templates to the pines boards, then cut each piece out, then took each piece to the spindle sander and contoured the edge of each piece to give a carved look, stained red mahogany and early American, glued all 4 layers together to make it 3" thick and stand very solid.......comments always welcomed. This was a gift for my mom for Easter this year.

  37. Be advised, Per Ray, at Seyco, you must be aware, you adjust that bolt too tight, You can wear a groove into the metal that the bearing on the end of that bolt rides on. That groove gets too deep in that metal, and that bolt/bearning will not work any more, the metal is part of the saw metal that covers the saw. Not a replaceable part on it's own. He warned me not to adjust it any tighter than necessary to raise the arm and it stay in place. I would fear that you have added weight on that upper arm of your saw with the lights, so it could mean you have to tighten that screw beyond what is required... Just putting it out there, He told me that when I had an Excalibur which was several years ago. Maybe they have changed how that all works, but I would check it our first.

  38. I'll definitely look into that. This saw is still pretty new to me. Took some trial and error just to get the vibration out ant straight vertical cut. But yea, just trying to hold the arm up fro blade changes. Thanks

    New take on a hold

I'm confused... so are you trying to hold the upper arm of the saw up? That's what it looks like and if so.. all you need to do is adjust the arm tension set screw at the back of the saw on the opposite side of the motor you'll see a bolt / screw with a slot in it and a jam nut on it.. loosen the jam nut and use a flat head screwdriver and turn it in slightly until you get enough resistance to hold the arm up.. don't make it too stiff because then your arm will get sore trying to raise it up, LOL.. should move freely and fairly easy yet have enough tension to stay in the up position on it's own.. might have to play around with in a few times to get it where you want it but man that sure beats having to hold it up in some way.. There are instructions in your manual for the adjustment as well..

  42. Its been about 5 weeks since my back surgery (MIS TLIF) and though things are getting better, they are not back to normal yet. Its going to be a few more weeks until I can back in the shop to start cutting again (too cold also). Before my surgery I had some interesting discussions with my surgeon about my procedure and aviation. It seems that he is a pilot of the Cirrus SR22 single engine aircraft. This aircraft has be out selling Cessna aircraft for several because of all the latest incorporated technology. He has some business in the midwest and he can make it nonstop there but he would really like to upgrade to the Cirrus SF50 Vision Jet. It's the least expensive single engine jet, fastest selling single pilot jet on the market today. It has the most advance avionics and also an emergency parachute system and a automatic navagation/landing system that will take the aircraft to the nearest airport and land. It seats 5 with a 1,200 mile range and max altitude of 37K'. It goes for about 2+ million. I made it before my operation and gave it to him on my followup visit after my surgery. He was amazed and really surprised I made it for him. Maybe I can bum a ride some day.

    Dust Pump

My shop is 8 x 12 and I have two high quality shop vacs that are reasonably quiet installed with the best bags available. One is set up with my router table and or table saw. The other is set up for use with my bench band saw, drill press, disc sander and etc. I don’t use any vacuum for my scroll saw being I like it quite and wear a high quality face mask for protection. I clean up immediately after each mess eliminating any build up of dust and do the same at the end of each day ready for the next fresh. I’ve been doing this for twenty five years and I’ve never had any big issues with dust. Dust comes with the pleasure of wood working so each must manage it in their own way. This is my way.

www.ncwoodworker.net is a "Virtual Club", meaning it's online. We don't have meetings or dues, but do have get togethers, frequently for lunch in several locations. A picnic in the Springtime is held every year, and during that the nominees for office are elected for the coming year. A raffle is held each Springtime with great prizes, and the proceeds from this raffle pays a significant amount of the operating costs of the website. Amazon Smile has helped too, but sadly Amazon is closing their Smile Program next month. All of the woodworkers in the surrounding States and down through Florida are also welcome to join, and if you will be, are, or ever were a person with ties to North Carolina, you can become a member. When I last checked, and this wasn't recently, there were well over 6,000 members. We have members all over the Country and in the military, wherever they may be stationed. We are a "friendly" bunch who help each other and anyone requesting woodworking help. Charley

  48. Love the cuttings. If they are in you patterns for sale I may have to buy them to make things for my crazy friends and relatives that are believers. But I live in the Pacific Northwest.. and got to tell you Big Foot does not exist. So there, prove me wrong! I have argued this for years with friends and relatives. Neither side has won the argument. But in my younger days I spent a lot of time in the wood, in areas of reported sighting, and nothing. Not even droppings that didn't have toilet paper or crumpled leaves with waste on them. Bigfoot would not have wiped himself/herself. You can not tell me with a the thousands of people that spend time in the woods and no one has absolute proof yet. Sorry... it is all fun, to think about and argue about, but no one has convinced me yet. Same with the lost tribes of Native Americans that are suppose to exist in the area of Shasta Mountain in Oregon.

I hope you got a good shop space and look forward to seeing and hearing more about your new ventures.
