  1. A modified Sue Mey pattern to fit 1" x 4" x 10" Hard Maple. Cut on the Pegas scroll saw using a Pegas #5 MGT blade. One side says "TEACH". Flip it over and the other side says "LEARN". After sanding, dipped in diluted Shellac, sanded again and another dipping. Comments welcome.

  5. This wood tank consists of ten wooden gear wheels. When you move the tank, the wheels turn and make a sound similar to the sound of a tank tracks. It is an automata toy in which ten gears turn on a tank with the power of gear wheels. Wooden Gear Tank.mp4

    Drill bits

Stopped by my local Harbor Freight store today to pick up some mats to use under my treadle saw that were on sale. While I was there I stumbled across these "micro drill bits." They didn’t come with an index, but for $2.99 I couldn’t pass them up. Unfortunately (for me) they’re metric but a quick search for a conversion table gave me a ballpark size. They ranged from 0.5mm (~#76) up to 3.0mm (~#31). If you’re interested in just a small hole for blade entry these should do just fine.

    With Help From Grandpa!

I asked for help for a pattern to make a portrait for a friend’s wife of her musician husband. Grandpa got me started and I took it from there. My friend often plays Bluegrass in his shed, so I expanded the picture a little bit.I also added a few details to his beard. I’ve done better guitars, but this is ok, I guess. Three pics included: one of the picture Grandpa used, one of his pattern that he did, one of the almost finished piece. Thanks for your help, Paul!

  10. We have been quite busy since before Christmas and I finally found some time to get back into my Scroll Saw Village family. Yesterday my wife asked me to make something new to add to her Valentines decorations so I found this Sue Mey pattern and asked her if she like it and I got a resounding "YES, VERY MUCH". I immediately went to the shop and cut this one for her. I have been away from here for about 2 months and I am so happy to be back here with all of you. I will go back and try to post some of the items I have not yet posted just so you know I have been doing some items in my shop as well. Dick heppnerguy

  11. Played around yesterday cut this out of a piece of scrap 1/4" BB. Well I say scrap but with the cost of BB any more, none of it is scrap! I have a couple more to cut. I am a sucker for the little gnomes! This is a Steve Good one. And check out this beautiful piece of canary wood, being prepared for another project. May be my favorite wood.

    Grief plaques.

These are a Shiela Landry/Keith Fenton design. Made from 1/4” Cherry with a painted 1/8” Baltic Birch backer. I don’t do much word art. These sell well. I don’t send flowers when someone dies, I send one of these. I also keep at least one handy “Just in Case”

    Latest 3 Bowls

Here re my latest bowls. The odd shaped one is a Steve Good Patter. The others are patterns that I did on the computer. The orangesh oak bowl is the finest bowl I have ever made and my favorite so far. All the angles turned out great and there was very minimal sanding.

    Thumb screw knob

just draw the top of the thumb screw into a piece of wood and cut out whatever shape you want. Thats what I did. Little trial and error to get it to fit tight and that was it.

    New take on a hold

Funny story. I wanted an arm lifting type thing but of course I am too cheap to buy one so figured I would simply figure it out. I moved my saw under the open garage door where there was a big nail in the door. I hooked up a long bungee cord around the top arm of the saw so when I let off tension it would automatically go up. Seemed to work great, that was until I finished sawing one day and got up and just closed the garage door. heard a loud thumping against the door. Opened the door back up and the saw was swinging in the air still connected to the bungee cord. Happily nothing broke but I wouldnt recommend this method.

    New take on a hold

I have a "Jim Dandy" lift on my DeWalt scroll saw that came with the saw when I bought it. It's just an arm that pivots on a longer screw in the top right side of the saw's rear casting, and a coil spring to pull the back end of this arm down, and the front end of this arm with the upper saw arm attached to it, up. I have two LED lights on goosenecks attached to the upper arm of the saw, one on each side, and have the spring tension set so the upper saw arm is about neutral and floating, meaning that it will sit at any desired level while changing the blade or doing any other kind of work with the blade removed. I've been happy with it. Just one more option. Whatever works for you, go with it. Charley

    Another one done

Just finished this bowl, a little bit different I glue 2 pieces of 1/2” and one piece of1/4” together and then cut the bowl at 17 degree. Some sanding/shaping required but I am pleased with the result.

    Stevie Nicks

Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac. The pattern is in the library but I added a few strands of hair as I cut it. Listened to her music as I cut. Brought back some good memories. *Added some feathers to give her a little more attitude.
