  1. Well this was my first box, tray & basket Market. Here's a few pics give you ideas. Did really well compared to the small stuff I usally take but it was just one box to load in car instead of 4 happy days. Roly

  2. So this saw is pretty nice but I think it’s going to be too expensive for me to use. Only took 3 missing blade clamps to finish this thing. The first time I broke a blade and the thing went flying. I looked everywhere for it even on my hands and knees. Then I went to go get a drink and the clamp was laying 15 ft away in the middle of the shop. Anyway, I started with 4 clamps this morning and now have just one left. I suspect they went under my workbench and I’m not moving it to find out as it’s heavy without all the tools inside the lower cabinet.

  3. Just go fishing with one of those extendable magnet things. I rarely break blades on my Hegner. What blade were you using and how thick was the material? Where did the blades break?

  4. A modified Sue Mey pattern to fit 1" x 4" x 10" Hard Maple. Cut on the Pegas scroll saw using a Pegas #5 MGT blade. One side says "TEACH". Flip it over and the other side says "LEARN". After sanding, dipped in diluted Shellac, sanded again and another dipping. Comments welcome.

  5. Recognize this kid from a 1980’s movie yet? *Finished up Ralph Macchio as Daniel Larusso in Karate Kid. This one makes me happy. Good memories from those years.

  7. Kevin, look at the gap sizes in this picture. With the clamps open take your feeler gauge and measure the opening. This will tell you which clamp sizes you have.

  8. Re:parts, the springs are for older saws. Somebody may have upgraded their saw and some parts may be from original saw. The saw you bought has all the bells & whistles so once you get it cleaned up you will have a real treasure. Best deal I've seen yet. Go to church next Sunday.

  9. The oblong Walnut bowl is about 15 inches long. It is a coffee table bowl. The round oak and walnut is from my scrap wood box. It is 5" in diameter,

  11. Well I rarely break them now, but when I first got my Hegner I did... It is mostly in the tensioning. After a little while it became a natural feel and sound when I put a blade in.

  12. I really think, unless you use big blades often, the smallest clamp is all you need. I use up ti a #5 size and have never used either of the other two clamps.

  13. You need to make a Hegner scroll saw blade, drill bit and clamp finder. Not hard to make and a real knee and back saver!

  14. Really nice job Kevin. Better put some magnets on the floor to catch those blade clamps. LOL

  17. I would not try to replace those springs, Any spring that is strong enough to lift the upper arm up and keep it there is good enough. When I modified mine so the arm would go up higher I picked up the spring at Ace Hardware. It in not nearly as strong as the original spring was.

  18. The one with the dimple on top is the mid size... As Ray says match up the slot and the one with the biggest slot it the biggest the other is the littlist. Which is the only one have ever used because I have never used a blade bigger than a #5 If you get the. Quikclamp it is good for all sizes. I am stating this from memory which I have had over a #5 of either.

  19. Cleaned up fairly well, stand still needs cleaning but the saw looks brand new under all that gunk. Even has a working bellows lol.

  20. Yep, he who snoozes loses. But I didn't see the market post until after I seen it on here. I don't check it often. Glad he got a great deal.

  21. Yeah, thing is the thing was listed for a week.. I can't believe it was still there other than the listing didn't mention Hegner or anything pertaining to what it was other than scroll saw.. I messaged right away and he responded right back and said any time today I could look at it.. I said how about right now, LOL

  22. Not sure but I think they sprayed this with some kind of sticky oil film. It’s all over the whole saw and will take some elbow grease to get it off. I soaked the top of the table with some WD- 40 and let it set for 20 minutes and wiped it off. Took a few times but it’s coming out nice . I don’t think this thing has seem much use honestly and I think he must have sprayed it with something to keep it from rusting / corrosion and that’s why it’s sticky grimy dirty looking. Seems to be a gem under all the whatever film on it. I did put a blade in it and run a small test cut and the variable speed is working great. Seems real smooth throughout the speed range. Quieter and smoother than the Hawk even with all the dirt grime on it. It’s going to take some time to clean it up good to use it. I don’t want to run it with this crude all over it.

  24. Just got back home and unloaded it. The table and basically the whole saw is covered in an oily substance and then dust / dirt stuck to it so it looks way worst than it really is. I think it’ll clean up very nice other than the stand. Here is another kicker on this deal. About 6 years ago my auntie was helping her friend that does a business with estate sales and helping organize them etc. and there was a couple Hefner’s there that I passed on for $40. After the sale there was a box full of blades and parts. I have about 10 clamps somewhere up in my loft that they gave me so if / when I can find them I can give it a try. So I don’t think I’m going to need to buy anything for this other than some cleaner to clean it up. Not sure how these pictures turned out seemed kinda dark on my phone but here is the few pictures. I’ll possibly have some questions later. Right now I’m going to go try finding that box of blade clamps upstairs. I'm amazed at how light this is.. I unloaded it by myself.. wouldn't do that with a Hawk I don't think..

  25. I’m on my way back home. Had to pull off and say this: Not going to believe this. The guy plugged it in and it runs. But I couldn’t try it because he couldn’t find any lower blade holders / clamps. He said it was his dads and they’re just trying to clean out to sell the house as his parents moved into a care home. He said if I want it as is I could have it as one dumpster full of stuff already went and this one was going to go into the next one if I don’t take it. Has a foot switch and we powered it on and it runs but no lower blade holders. For free I can use the foot switch anyway. oh and it actually looks nicer than in the photos. I post some photos later when I get back.

  28. I do quite often mainly for enlarging the vain in a piece. Cut it with a flat blade then go over it wiith a 3/0 F. D. spiral. As a mater of fact I use the clamp to sort of straighten the end. Work it in there than clamp down on it. I do it on both ends. The only spirals I have used are the F.D. 3/0 and the Pegas 2/0. Spiral require a liittle more tension because, I think, when you fire up the machine it stretches out the twists a little so you need to compensate for that at the beginning,,, That is my theory anyway.

  31. Okay yeah I looked at them and just guesstimate on what one to use.. then I found more and they had ink stamps 0.5 as best I could make of it.. they have been working good with my #5 and 3 blades.. Talk about Cadillac of saws.. what little I've used it so far I am really impressed. So far the only downside to it that I have is the smaller table than I'd like and the air blower once I got it working ( tube was completely plugged with the gunk oil stuff and dirt ) the blower blows the dust into my lap, LOL.. I do like the hose being built into the upper arm so I don't never have to fuss with aiming it or having it in my way while treading a blade.. But it does just blow the dust at me instead of off to the side.. That's a minor issue and I think I can get used to the small table for most my projects will be fine.. Well he had a table saw and other stuff there but not thinking I never even enquired about anything else.. Had stacks of boards in the rafters as well as a couple pretty good piles on the floor. The table saw was also real grimy / dirty and was a pretty small outfit, but I don't know much on table saws and just bought the new DeWalt one last spring.. Who knows though.. could have been a real nice high end saw for all I know.. I'm sure anyone that may have looked at this Hegner if they didn't know would have labeled it as a pile of junk. The guy told me he knew nothing about it then when I couldn't even put a blade in it to try it he felt bad as I drove an hour..so he said I could just have it if I was interested otherwise it was going in the next dumpster when it showed up.. He was just trying to clean out the place to sell it and was throwing a lot of stuff out..

  34. Yep. if the motor runs, the speed control work, if would be mine as a restore project. You would end up with a great saw. Even is the speed control doesn't work, I would buy it and see if I could fix it or get it fixed. You got a heck of a deal for sure. Looks like fun work to me.

  44. Jim, you don't know how close I've come to scrolling this little cutie. Reason being, my little buddy, Hershey, looks almost identical. He was a rescue and when we got him, he was completely hairless from fleas. Always wants to be held and loves his belly scratched. I think I'd get rid of the wife before I got rid of my little buddy!
