    Playing catch up

Well I know I haven't been on in a few weeks, but I have been playing catchup. I have been real busy down in my shop, exploring a few different types of things I haven't done before, or in a long while. What I posted here here is just half of what I have done. I have been seeing Gnomes a lot, never done those, so I gave it a go, Hope it pays off this Spring. Made a few Cell Phone stands, working on a few more. Sponge Bob Model was a 1st. The Helicopter is a Pencil stand. I have a few more things in mind, I am anxious to try. I will try to get here a little more often. You here in The Village Take Care.

Been slow at the saw lately, family stuff and allergies combining to suck all energy out of me. Pattern came from the library. Added the pencil holder to the frame because....John Wick. (watch the 2nd movie, if you haven't already)

  6. Week was cut short as I had Monday and half of today out of the shop... But this is my small list of things for the week.. I don't usually work Fridays as the wife has Fridays off so that is our grocery & errands day. Only cut the backers for the John 3:16 and glued / finished them.. Cut the Love Corinthians 16:14 and backers on the Hegner using #3 Pegas MGT blade.. stack cut 3 then profile cut 6 using #7 Pegas MGT as I cut the profile of all of them together so they matched,LOL All the ornaments was cut with #5 Pegas MGT blade some were stacked as 3 since I had some leftover scraps that was already taped etc. Others was stack cut of 5. Trivets was cut from 1/2" Cherry using #5 Pegas blades as well..

  7. This was a challenge for me. I have never made an intarsia pattern on my own before. My neighbor came to me with a photo of the military airplane he spent his 25 Canadian Air force carrier in. This aircraft was used to search the ocean waters for enemy subs. I found it very challenging for me because he kept changing what I was doing and he kept wanting it to be more of a model than an intarsia item. I was really wanting to making it just the way he wanted it but every change, along the way, put more doubt in my success to make it happen and added a lot of extra time to the process. This project is 28 inches long and approximately 14 inches high. I used a woodburner to make the stripe on the body of the plane black. Dick heppnerguy

    Here for comments

I have made a few personal portrait patterns and enjoyed the outcome of most of them. I struggled to go through the step by step procedures, that took my so long to achieve my goal, so I do not take the effort to make one very often. This year I plan on making enough of them to be able to go through the procedures in my head without the long process. So I once again took the long time effort to once again begin my effort to learn this process in my head. I fail to take the time to learn new things that take time to learn, so I don't bother to put out the efforts. Here is my newest efforts and I am looking for comments that are on the negative lines. I want people to point out where my weakest parts of this and my future efforts could use some advise so I can see it through someone else's eyes and help me to be more aware of where I need to pay more attention. I understand that we are not here to critique other people's work, but to support them in their efforts to learn. I understand that I am a mediocre scroller, at best, but I have been scrolling for a number of years and still make a lot of mistakes. Please help me, if you choose to and let me hear your thoughts so I might be able to improve as I go along, trying to learn. Dick heppnerguy

  20. I made this for a couple of Nieces who's mother recently passed away at 95 years old. She was married to my wife's brother who died about 55 years ago and several years later she remarried. My wife and I saw her only a few times since my wife's brother was killed so we really do not have much of a connection with her. We do keep in pretty close contact with the daughters and when she passed I made one of these plaque for each of them.. I modified the plaques a little and got them into the mail yesterday. They will be receiving them on Monday. These are patterns by Sue Mey and like I said, I did modify them a little. Dick heppnerguy

  21. Hi, I'm Bill, I was away from woodworking and hobbies for a period of time. Life has a funny way of directing and changing our paths. This past holiday season my wife found a used oldie on FB Marketplace. For $75 on the stand. I couldn't pass it up. I'm not sure if it was used much at all. Before I had an old craftsman pinned blade version and I used it for cutting parts for RC airplanes. Between my eyes and other things, I can't fly RC's or parachutes anymore. I decided to give this a go. I'm hooked. I'm going to have to get a better saw though. Feeding these pinless blades through a hole and keeping them from bending is a challenge without an articulating arm. I enclosed the porch and use a buddy heater to have a place to work. We live tiny and so I don't have a work area. It's comfortable though and I enjoy it for hours at a time. Some nights it's just too cold, but all in all it's enjoyable. I am really enjoying basic stuff, but can see wanting to really learn Intarsia and portrait type stuff. ~BK PS, HUGE Thank you to Travis for creating a dark theme so that I can see and participate. It's nice that there are still kind people left in this world.

  22. My husband surprised me with a scroll saw for Christmas. He bought me a used Somerville Excalibur 30 from an estate sale. Right now, I’m working my way through some of the exercises in the Scroll Saw Workbook, but I am an artist and I have lots of ideas for projects!

  23. things are getting a little more difficult as I get older. I am hoping I will be able to scroll until I get close to my end time, which can't be too far off. I only wish I would have started my scrolling a little earlier in life instead of waiting until I retired in 2002. I may have been able to do a little better then. Thanks for the encouragement as it is much appreciated Dick heppnerguy

Gave my lady scroll saw Valentines today. All are Steve Good patterns; the gnomes are from last year; she saved them and brought them out again this year. The other 3 are new this year.

    Happy Little Accident

After cutting this piece, a crack showed up at the top that really took away from it. It looked to just be on the surface so I tried sanding it out with the edge of my orbital sander but it was deeper than it looked and I sanded a noticeable low place. I liked the way it looked so I kept doing it. Made this pretty piece of Sycamore prettier.

  38. I think the blade was too small for the pattern and wood.

  39. I picked up the #2/0 thinking I needed something very narrow and nimble to be able to handle the detail cuts from the nature shadow box pattern. Maybe I was wrong? What would you use to cut the interior lines on this house? I was especially concerned about that 90 degree angle under the chimney, but looking closer at Steve's version a) his version of that curve is rounded and b) the width of his interior cuts seem wider than what I'm getting with the #2/0. What are the odds that those were made with a #3 or even my beloved #5? (The picture below is about 4"x4" IRL).

  40. Now that you have clarified the blade size, yes the FD UR # 2/0 is a bugger to control, even with 25 years experience, I can’t control them. When I need such a small blade, I go back to Olson Reverse Tooth 2/0 blades. For me, they track nicely.

    Hegner Thingy 2

When I got my new Hegner, I tried their setup for blowing dust and was quite disappointed. I took the one from my old Hegner with Loc-Line and moved it. I got that one from Mikes Workshop.

  43. ME TOO!! I have pattern books I've bought and then never ever cut any of those awesome patterns.. I bet nobody else ever waste money on patterns and then never cut them out.. Right? LOL.. I'm the same way with wood / lumber.. I take my dust collector sawdust over to my brothers lumber mill to empty into his sawdust pile since he sells sawdust from the mill.. and it's a easy way for me to get rid of my sawdust ( mostly from my planner.) . Anyway, every time I go he sends me home with a truck load of lumber.. I'm getting stacked up and backed up on lumber.. I have piles of it and then I started putting up in the rafters and now that's getting full.. No scrap wood for me.. just pieces I haven't used yet,
